  1. Yeah it is. Ebay is full of cheap PAR30 and PAR38 bulbs for reefs. Cheap enough to give one a go. Otherwise rapidled are the main name in PAR reef bulbs but they are pricey. If you buy a cheap fixture for the bulb, ensure the bulb is not rated too high a wattage for it!
  2. I have one of these (actually a leo Q220 which is the same but glass) If i were going to set it up i would use a PAR30 bulb suspended above the tank - a simple desk clamp lamp attached to the stand would do it. so like this: Some people have added 2 more of the original light unit, but ive heard they dim substantially after about 6 months.
  3. The aquanano 40 which is have is only 4 or 5mm glass and its OK, but the front and sides are seamless. If I were building one I'd go 6mm, and consider 8mm back and bottom Just buy an aquanano, 140 from living reef.co.nz and comes basically as what you are trying to build
  4. First compartment. Shaving a few mm of plastic from the base and it will fit
  5. Leaving it alone for a few weeks to see how everything survives / grows before I add more! New skimmer on the way, a bubble magus qq which should fit with some slight modification, nitrates are hanging around 20ppm even with lighter feeding and larger (20%) weekly water changes Corraline should start growing soon too
  6. I would stick a wp40 on each end Fx6 intake in the middle, . Should do the job. Water and crud from the ends will be pushed towards the middle intake, it won't really matter too much where the filter outlet goes, but I guess at one end would work. Wp's have different modes for different flow so that gives you options too. They make awesome waves too!
  7. Add a grunty powerhead. A jebao wp40 would do an excellent job on a tank that size. You might even have to turn it down
  8. Dont dose if you dont test! Golden rule! I dont dose anything. Regular water changes with a good salt mix contains what i need.
  9. Just much better options nowadays with colours, smaller and cooler units that don't require bulb replacements and use less power! If I had a t8 unit already I'd use it, but I wouldn't go out and buy one after using LEDs on multiple applications.
  10. Open to neogitation but not by a whole lot as its almost new and already in the country a 8) Don't waste time your time with t8s. Nowadays I wouldn't even consider them in a plantless tank!
  11. Yellow means a deficiency of nutrients. Flourish on its own isn't that beneficial. It contains extremely inadequate amounts of macro nutrients NPK. Look into getting some dry ferts. The other way to look at it is limiting factor. If nutrients are the limiting factor then reduce your lighting - cut your photo period to day 8hrs if its currently longer, and raise the height of the lights. I've personally always gone lower on my lighting as then levels of co2 and nutrients become less critical but at the expense of slower growth.
  12. Got some more frags today. Hairy mushroom Xenia Frogspawn Palys Got some good (i think) hitchhikers with them too, a decent sized stomatella snail and some small brittle stars.
  13. I'll post it for 5$ even though I'll cost more
  14. Imagine the suspended square halides that people used to use, but with heaps of high powered LEDs in various colours etc.. Otherwise if you want strip lighting look to see if Amazon will ship a finnex planted+ in the length you need, great value and much better than Beamswork units http://www.amazon.com/Finnex-FugeRay-Pl ... B00GH9HSC6
  15. Look up finnex fugeray. I'm selling an almost new 16inch unit that'll work well for your tank for 60$. No bulbs too replace, energy efficient, switchable moonlighting, compact and rated at medium light for plants. Find my planted nano thread and you can see differences between a few led units I went through.was very happy with the finnex and now using one on my saltwater tank
  16. Amazon is good. 500g purigen costs 110 here, was like 39us or something from there. Just order quite a bit of stuff at once to get free shipping. If prices aren't too drastically different though, support local stores.
  17. Or buy 2 high powered tiles and suspend them?
  18. Yeah i asked for a small one so the clowns have chance to grow to become too big for dinner :-) How big is yours?
  19. Zoas under full blues Fts. Added some blue xenia and a small candy cane frag Coral banded shrimp
  20. I checked the tank that they came out of this morning, big aips in there
  21. Just nuked them with lemon juice, dang they are fast!
  22. Cheers. These skimmers aren't very effective to run dry, this is the best I can get it to run! Shrimp should be OK, clowns are growing quickly and I think my stocking will end there as I'll start picking up a few frags. I now appreciate the colours under blue lighting too, amazing, like the ZOA's are glowing in the dark! Also is that aiptasia on the top of the zoas?
