  1. Everything I have at current is of edible size for your ornate. including my senegals!
  2. Thats why i bought them
  3. Yes based on retail prices, my livestock is worth $1,600, and thats with all the fish being juveniles!
  4. Cheers. I hate the way a camera flash makes a clean tank look dirty
  5. Huzzah new camera! Huzzah 10 discus!
  6. Giant gouramis can take about 4 years to get to 50cm. In that time your dats would be 20cm+ so would be fine. not sure about the leaf fish, whats the scientific name?
  7. Giant gourami! I have 3!
  8. Generally nitrates are harmless. below 40ppm is perfectly ok for most fish, above that will probably cause stunting. Some fish like discus can get stunted at much lower nitrate levels i believe.
  9. Thats exactly what I was going to put! except i thought it would end up being a discussion between the definitions of huge and massive!
  10. Just a random question as the title says. I ask as I have lots of customers, who when I ask what size tank they have, in relation to the fish they are looking at purchasing, then respond with 'big', 'massive' or 'huge', and upon further enquiry they are talking about a mere 2ft or 3ft. Its quite funny. I class my 4x2x2 as the very bottom end of the 'large' scale. Im not talking about the 6000000L aquariums either. What do you guys think?
  11. Its only a 2ft, so yes id say overstocked.
  12. What about 6 electric yellows and 6 demisoni? both are nice fish. will produce a nice contrast with each other, and readily available.
  13. Im getting a new camera tomorrow if i remember to go shopping. will take some pics then its a 4x2x2 (120g, 430L)
  14. I just went from a handful of big fish, to a lot (like 50+) smaller fish. loving it!

    eBay?

Ebays selling fees are also a lot higher. I only buy off ebay, sell on trademe!
  16. Mine got eaten the day the flowerhorn went in. I was most annoyed. at 7cm i thought it would be fine.
  17. My old ctenopoma is so nice! good to see my old dats doing well. I got 4 more Indo's in today Travis.

    eBay?

Trademe sucks in comparision to ebay IMHO. Trademe is good for junk, but for buying new stuff, its quite often cheaper to import, and quite a lot of stuff isnt even available on trademe. Trademe was just New Zealand trying to re-invent the wheel. Plants from ebay would be great (selection is huuuuge) but it would be more trouble than its worth. apologies for the trademe rant. Contact your LFS for plants. there are a lot more plants available than you'd know, its just the shops dont stock them, but the suppliers might.
  19. Nah they are closer to 6-7cm i reckon.
  20. Oh that reminds me.. i need to pay you for it tomorrow. Nice gravel indeed.
  21. Beunos aires tetras will go nicely. they grow to 10cm. Denisonii barbs are the best i reckon, but to buy 6 ish would require a small mortgage.
  22. Nah im keeping at as like a species tank, so just 3 species and good amounts of them - loaches for the bottom, tiger barbs for activity, and the firemouths. the sens are just way to cool for school, so they get to stay
