Bit of an understatement! A few hours after a water change in the bare bottom tank and it was already filled with fish waste If only someone would buy them! :roll:

Welcome to the forums 8) I have around 50 young BNs (Bristle Noses) around 20mm long right now. When I first noticed eggs I removed all the fish in the tank except the father, mother and another young BN. Feeding zucchini, courgette and/or cucumber is good, as are algae wafers. If I was in your situation, I'd remove the platy, feed daily and do partial water chnages daily. I've found that feeding rotten cucumber or leaving it in too long tends to make the water cloudy but it's not harmful. Try and feed just enough that they can all consume in 12-24hrs max. Good luck!

I'm looking at getting a pair or trio of Apistos for my 54L 2 foot tank but would like some advice and help first. 1. This tank was setup yesterday afternoon so it's still a bit bare but would it be suitable for breeding them in? 2. I'll be removing the Fighter and Clown Killie that are currently in there, do the Ottos need to go too? 3. Which species is... a. Easiest to bred b. Nicest looking c. Hardiest d. Most available 4. What are some triggers for spawning? 5. What type of food do the eat? That's all I can think of for now. Thanks for any info!

Thanks Diver21. If I make the hole a bit smaller than the pipe (or the same size) it should fit well.

Third post in a row :oops: Would it be better to use an overflow pipe drilled from the bottom or one at the back? The only difference I can see if simpler plumbing and more prone to leaks if drilled through the bottom. Thoughts? Thanks

The second one is the largest fry visible. Am I right in thinking it's cellophane at this stage? They're about 5 weeks old I think, perhaps a bit more. A bit off topic but if the video uploads, I'll post a link. I think they need to be separated soon as the largest one is picking on the smaller ones a bit, hence the need for these barracks.

Hear that people? BOY as in MALE, not female :roll: I'm back now, thank you for all the response and feedback. I've been thinking about this a lot and separate drainage for each row sounds best. I've recently got a photo and two videos of the two biggest fry, will upload soon. That is a very good link ADodge but I'm trying to avoid gutters if possible.

I know it'd be better if they each got 1st hand water but that means a lot more plumbing. I might still do it that way though if I can find out what pipe to use. Thanks

Hello all. Once again ( :roll: ) I have decided I want to have a go at building my own Betta barracks. Not a permanent home for them but something until they're sold. Here's a pic: Firstly, water is pumped from the sump up to a pipe above the top row of tanks. The pipe has drip regulators (Q.1) that control the flow and direct water into the containers. The water then overflows the container into the pipe and down into the next container. The same happens to the next container until the water reaches the sump where it is heated, filtered and sent back up to the top. Q.1. Can we get drip regulators in NZL? Where from? Q.2. How do I calculate how much flow I'll need? Q.3. What is the best pipe to use for plumbing? That's all I can think of for now! All advice appreciated thanks.

It's just advice. I have little to no filtration on my display tanks (all planted though), no filtration on the betta rearing tank (also planted and full of algae) and only a pump with sponge on the BN tank. I know I'll get shot for this but to me, filtration is over rated.

Stole my idea! :evil: 8) If I ever get back into the aviary scene again, these guys will be top of the list. They're not rare last time I checked, $40 for a pair at bird barn though.

Got one on my 27L running a 3L juice bottle at about 1 bubble every two second, no diffusion needed. Leave it on 24/7

Too bad you didn't come in and see my baby BN's the other day, they differ hugely in colouration. I have some that look just like those.

Just attach a sponge to the intake of the powerhead, awesome sponge filter right there.

I have my T8's over the 60x30 mounted into the wall in my room, pretty rough but it does the job okay. I have poly under all my tanks but if the stand is level and clean enough you might get away with it.
