  1. hi sorry to hijack! I was wondering with the 3 way splitter, do you get any problems with Co2 pressure changing over time in separate tanks? Thanks
  2. Awesome growth, I gotta try some of that mineralized topsoil
  3. Im currently using an Up Aqua system on a 100 ltr tank similar to the one you posted though i brought them when i was in asia. The up aqua branded products were a regulator with needle valve and solenoid, 1kg Co2 bottle and a bubble counter. The 1kg bottle lasts me about 5 months, so you may want to get a bigger bottle depending on how often you want to refill it. Not sure of my thread mm but the regulator fits it perfectly. For co2, i refill it at Fire Corp Onehunga and takes about 10mins or less and costs about $17 In terms of reliability, its pretty good apart from my bubble counter which leaks CO2 at high pressures. Make sure you get a good check valve, as water back flowed into my solenoid and broke it when the bottle emptied out. If your thinking of supplying Co2 to more than one tank, then think about getting a regulator with multiple valves, otherwise it becomes hard to manage pressure at 2 separate tanks. You will probably be ok with two Ceramic diffusers in your tank, if you want better diffusion, i find a powerhead to be pretty good (also doesnt require cleaning as often). In line Co2 reactors are best, you can buy those online as well, otherwise look online for some easy DIY videos. you dont have to get up aqua regulators on Ebay, look on TM, theres like 3 on sale atm, one even has 6 valves on it - awesome for when you want to do another planted tank Have Fun
  4. hm, alright, know of any good websites to order one of these? Thanks guys
  5. Hey guys I currently have a pressurized CO2 line running into a plastic gange valve which splits the line into 2 planted tanks. One tank is using a ceramic glass diffuser and the other tank has the line running into a powerhead. To adjust the CO2 going into each tank i use the taps on the gange valve. The problem is that i will tweak the amount of Co2 going into each tank one day and have it all fine, but over time i.e. 2 -3 days it seems to adjust its self, so that either the tank with the diffuser stops putting out Co2 and the other tank will have tonnes of CO2 going into it or Vice versa. This is really starting to stress out my fish with the extreme CO2 levels when im not around to notice this. Do you guys have any ideas on why this is happening? Or a effective solution to fix this problem? Thanks
  6. I've tried algae fix on green water as well. I had green water for about a week with daily 50% water changes and still couldn't get rid of it, so after another water change i put in about 3/4 of the recommended dose for my tank and by the next day all the green water had disappeared. I then left it like that for about 3 days before doing a 50% water change. I did not notice any stress on the fish at all. :bounce: However it didn't seem to have any effect on hair algae....does anyone know if UV sterilizers work for hair algae?
  7. Its not something you would do lightly! Using soil in a tank requires a special process that you will need to research thoroughly before you would proceed with it. When soil is first put in a tank it will indeed leach out a tonne of nutrients and may cause algae problems. In addition it will cause the water to change colour and this will all happen for quite some time i.e. a few months. During this time you can have plants but should not have fish in the tank while the soil adapts from aerobic to anaerobic bacteria. Once the soil has adapted and the water chemistry is stable, then fish can be introduced and even then, you will have to be wary of fish that dig in the soil as pockets of poisonous gas may form. So if you want to try it, be cautious and do lots of research on net. btw, soil is EXCELLENT for growing plants in tanks
  8. Wow Stella the mudfish look so excited lol and it does look like they're protesting at not getting fed. On one forum i visit quite often, they recommend that cannister filters be cleaned once every few months or so if the filter is being used as mechanical filtration as well. This is due to the gunk build up which leads to a build up of nitrates...high nitrates levels affect the health of the fish. What do you guys think about it?

    Metro

    Whats metro? ?
  10. I have a whole lot of this stuff growing outside along with Lilaeopsis brasiliensis (submerged but really close to the surface) in a pot with potting mix and occasionally i do see the flowers pop up, but they're really small so its easy to miss. :bounce:
  11. Does anyone know how long our shrimps will last at those temps? and do they do what Amano's red cherry's do? I wish we could get red cherry's as well, they're so awesome
  12. I think the general consensus is that betta's prefer warmer waters. :bounce:
  13. They didnt test my bottle. Whether or not they can refill the bottle depends on the connection i think.. It only takes them a few mins to refill it.. abt 5-10 mins
  14. Hey guys, Thank you for the comments Romeo; Thats some nice greens you got going on there i think my lighting make my greens look too yellow A-town; I get my 1 kg CO2 bottle refilled at FireCorp in onehunga. I think the last time i refilled it, it was abt $15 or $20
  15. It's been running for over a year now, firstly without pressurized CO2 and nutrients (apart from flourish excel) for most of the year. Only recently has it been running on CO2 and additional ferts. Tank size: 48x26x26cm glass aquarium 32 litres or about 8 gallons List of plants: Anubias barteri 'Nana', Java moss, java fern, star grass, dwarf hair grass, Bacopa monnieri, Rotala Macrandra 'NARROW LEAF' Fish: Betta splendon equipment: upaqua pressurized CO2 with limestone diffuser, jager 50watt heater, ehiem 2213 cannister filter, decorative materials: driftwood, inert gravel lighting: 2x 15watt, 8000k, 10000k Ferts; using API's plant zone and NPK Betta is hiding in the top left corner The betta that resides in this tank Any comments welcome :bounce:
  16. i agree, i wouldnt use concrete either, unless your are certain that it isnt leaching poisonous chemicals into the water :bounce:

    CO2 Pressure

Hey guys I have a pressurized CO2 system setup with a ceramic Glass diffuser. I've noticed that the diffuser requires a certain amount of pressure before it will let CO2 bubbles pass through it. When the CO2 is shut off each night, i find that by morning, water has gone into the diffuser and up the tubing to where the water line is, and thus each morning when the CO2 is activated again, it takes sometime for the CO2 gas to push the water back out the tubes and diffuser before it gets released into the tank again. The problem with this is that it takes a long time for this to happen, often hours. Does anyone else get this problem? Is it that there could be a leak somewhere? I have put the tubing underwater before with pressurized Co2 running through it, however i have not noticed any leaks. Or could it be that the Co2 is being absorbed into the water in the tubing, thus replacing the gas with Water? Any ideas/solutions would be appreciated guys
  18. Around $200-300. You could try put up a post in the private trade and exchange section for a cheaper second handset - Worked for me make sure u get all the bits tat come with these when u buy them.
  19. You can get a black plastic tap for the end of the hose, then u can control the flow n also stop it to move buckets (if thats how your doing it) im not sure where to get them (i got given mine) , but i think they're part of garden irrigation bits n pieces, maybe try a garden center and ask them for one to fit your hose. hope this helps
  20. hm oks Would you collect the drift wood on the beaches then? at low tide? :bounce: What abt..an hr outta AK..any other good places? Thanks
  21. Hey guys I'm wanting to collect some nice driftwood for my tank setup.. I live in Central Auckland, so i was wondering if anybody knows a good place where i can find some nice pieces, preferably not too far away from auckland, i.e within 30mins maybe? :bounce: Thanks guys
