  1. You could something I have always liked to try with that tank, populate it heavily with vegetation and wood so there are plenty of hiding spots. Then add heaps of small cardinal tetras or whatever other small fish, then put in a black arowana/silver arowana. I have seen it done before, the larger fish considers the small fish insignificant to the meals it receives from you, thus leaving the small fish alone. The contrast between the 2 sizes is a cool effect.
  2. I'm not part of a club (YET) but was wondering if people would be keen to check out the new sharks - they happen to be my favourite type of shark :happy1: and I haven't been in while so might head over after christmas sometime...
  3. Sounds good, you should get a flagtail from HFF, would look great in there.
  4. What about Jamie Olivers kids, one is is called 'Buddy Bear', another is like 'Cherry Blossom' and the third is i think 'Poppy Seed' LOL :dunno:
  5. Yeah! Jardini is a good option, from my observations they are fine with bichirs and schooling fish eg: sharks. With cichlids, you have to make sure they are substantially smaller so that he does not consider them a competitor, if you have a bigger cichlid it will catch up in size and beat the beep out of it. :an!gry A black aro in that planted tank would be cool too.
  6. FRASER!! yeah, best name. How about Demetri, Rory, Elliot?
  7. Wow, thats actually very good pricing on those lights, tempting...
  8. Are those halide lights there? If you don't mind me asking did they set you back a fair bit? They do look amzing though !drool:
  9. Wow, I just noticed you have a super deep gravel bed, takes up a huge portion of the tank. bichirs. Or at least some schooling catfish in there?
  10. I would have originally said peacock eel, however, I have had a peacock eel before and it has slightly different characteristics, this guy has a much more elongated nose in ratio to body length.
  11. looks very nice, needs some bichirs though :nilly:
  12. Just got to make sure he gets the food more than the pictus. Nice knife
  13. Got some nice fish in there mate. Banded is not exactly a real feature fish is he, before I sold mine he just hid ALL the time  Have you got just the one pictus? A group would be wicked.
  14. Congrats, not too common in NZ I think.
  15. I think that pirahnas are actually boring fish for many, they cannot have tankmates and are not extremely intrigueing in shape or colour. Like someone said before, the only reason people buy them is so that they can try to exploit their predatory tendencies, I would much rather have a garfish or an african tigerfish. !drool:
  16. How much does a dslr kit for simple photography run for approx?
  17. Pic no.7 is classic  needs a caption: "oh, just throw it in for heaven's sake" LOL The croc is also awesome, crocodiles are wicked.
  18. Thanks guys; yeah I saw that auction snookie, I paid $220 for mine, $900 is a bit steep since there was a whole setup with a large jar on that site for the same price. My jardini has to be top dog in the tank, its really weird he is ok when the cichlids when they are smaller than him by a substantial amount but once they reach his size or he catches up with them he goes mental He gave the fei feng a sort of initiation, then he let off and allows him anywhere.
  19. Started to feed more prawn to this guy and he has put on some size, he's pushing past 8 inches now. Red colour is showing through too, My other light is being used temporarily on another tank hence the darkness, but I do need some pink bulbs I think. Added a pic of the flagtail too, flame red tail is mint. Anyone else who bought a Jardini this year apart from myself and Henward (share too please, huge colour difference between ours) please share.
  20. Well, I think that 1 oscar would be ok, but that other thread suggests people think differently lol

    Oscars

I would have said 270L is ok for 1?
  22. 270L and you want large fish. Limiting. Do you want only a couple of fish then with character or something? My choices: Bichirs- you can put quite a few in there, they are predators and my favourite fish - stick to delhezis/senegals, don't go for ornate as it gets too big. Nice cichlid: Really depends what you like i guess, I have a small jag cichlid cos they are bada$$ 8) A nice oscar is good, severum, uaru, festae, Green terror etc. Biggest baddest predatory cichlids here are the jaguar and the festae, oscar always wins on personality. Fancy plecos: expensive, not really predators but certainly have an appeal, ask henward about the larger ones, he has a few now - btw they are poop machines = good filter needed. Catfish: synodontis variants will harass bichirs, so tough mix, I am growing a pair of mystus cats right now and hope to add them to my community. Not too much choice but I highly reccomend the pictus cat, they are a tad expensive but are cool predatory catfishes. Pink tailed chalceus: you could do a small group of these fellas, they are like jumbo predatory tetras. Smaller varieties of eel: half-banded etc, need tank eel proofed, + larger cichlids will try to eat them, not very predatory but cool fish. Thats pretty much it I guess... might have missed something. My thoughts are go with a group of bichir (because they are easy to look after and super awesome) and grow out a few cichlids, sell the rest off and keep 1 that you really like.
  23. oh yeah and diving for me, sort of recreational rather then sport though. Isn't underwater hockey brutal? Can't you just whack everyone? How do you score? I play field hockey and I can imagine its quite different.
