Don't worry, I won't delete the text. When he was here on Sunday and we discussed what was involved in the job, if it was then going to be more work involved and so cost more - he should have said so then, not AFTER the work is done (or nearly done). I've just sent him a nicely-worded email to that effect so we'll see what happens when he's due to arrive at 6pm tomorrow night.

Well he glued the lid supports and bracing tonight and left the bracing clamp in place - he comes back tomorrow to remove the clamp and replace 2 of the lids. He took measurements while he was here on Sunday and had cut the lids but there was still a lot of cutting and such involved as he didn't do what I wanted in the first place so had to fix a few things - was here for over 2 hours! :nilly: The quote was via text, I still have it and it's based on my long, wordy email about what I wanted.

Bracing and lids. I outlined exactly what I wanted in an email he said he'd come and have a look and we'd talk about it so that's what he did (that was Sunday) - he said he'd come back tonight and glue the bracing in and tomorrow he comes back with the lids, but on his way out he says the price is now $120 - because he had to travel to my place 3 times etc. etc. but he said in the original quote travel was included. I don't know, if it's the going rate I'm happy to pay it but don't quote one figure and then charge another after the work is done - he should have said when we discussed it when he came around on Sunday it will now cost $120.

Well it's now suddenly become $120.

I think TM have sided with the seller anyway and have simply removed the unanswered questions as there was only one question before.

Even less with all that blardy weed in the way, he's really only got the surface to move around in. I agree, we should really report the listing.

includes time and travel - is that reasonable? Travel is 5 minutes drive.

I've kept goldfish in a heated tank with tropicals. The temp was set to about 21 degrees and the tropicals were fish that could tolerate cooler water. I wouldn't have goldfish in a tank heated too high though as, even though they're known to "tolerate anything", I actually think they can't and it's cruel to do so.

My LL is very understanding, when he said he wanted to recarpet in the middle of Winter last year, I said no... then I explained why so he said we'd try again in Summer. He's very keen to get new carpet laid. I don't have spare storage to put the tanks so that won't work for me. I think I'll need to talk to the LL and carpet layers and see what we can come up with. If they will do half the place in one day and half in the next - then I can empty and refill the two large tanks on the spot, one tank per day (using the bath to put the fish in in the meantime). One of my tanks has very large fish in it so I can't use temp accommodations for them. It will have to be on the spot I think - god it's going to be a nightmare!

What's up? Well I have themes in mind for my tanks, they're quite odd-ball ideas so I can't get traditional decorations etc. for them so need to find "something that will work" - it's quite an interesting project.

In a year or two - we should talk

I tried that temp once - he didn't like it and died.

One tank is over 400 litres and is sitting on a large walnut cabinet - so that will have to be emptied to be able to move it and the cabinet, another is on a rimu base and will be far to heavy to lift both base and tank (but could lift tank if all substrate is removed and I do plan to do that over Summer - swap it out for white sand, so might do it then), so maybe that one won't be too much of a problem. Actually thinking about it - it's only those 2 that will be the problem so may not be as bad as I realise. I'll talk to the LL and we'll come up with a plan of action ...and then once the new carpet is laid, I'll be terrified every time I need to fuss about with the tanks :tears:

I just don't do plants at all - can't keep the damn things alive anyway, or they get eaten, or dug up so float around the tank :roll: Thanks for a larger pic of the one with little depth. There's a similar set up at my doctor's new surgery - they've installed a very long tank, but it's possibly a little deeper but not by much - was filled with goldfish and BNs so yes, will be heated far too hot for the goldfish. Then of course there's the tank at my gym.... :roll:

He wanted to recarpet last Winter and I said no and explained about moving the tanks (emptying, moving and refilling again and what was involved with that), I have a tank in every room where the carpet is - he saw the light and thought he'd like to try again at Summer time which is all well and good but to move all my tanks in one day and refill them all is mission impossible, besides - my hot water tank isn't big enough to fill them all anyway. I've had my share of tank accidents with water - one broke and flooded the place and I did a woopsie with a cannister filter just in the weekend and flooded the place again :roll: The Landlord knows nothing of this of course but I'll be paranoid about it happening if new carpet is laid.

My landlord wants to re-carpet my place which is all well and good, but I have quite a few tanks so emptying/moving them is mission impossible. Can anyone else please share their experiences of recarpeting and what you did about your tanks?
