Yes, the the grey lever in the middle is out of alignment, I tried forcing it a bit but am worried I'll break the thing. I really hate cannister filters.

Brilliant! Why didn't I think of that! :rotf: I've just spent all afternoon mucking about with a sealant and getting it all over me more than the tank so then had to go out and buy turps and, well - you get the idea. I should have just duct taped it up! I can see the leak as the particular spot where it's leaking is coloured green and only in that spot so it's definitely in the middle of the front of the bottom of the tank, which means a complete empty to fix the problem. So, I think if I have to empty it to do that, I may as well redo the whole thing as Ira said. So, now need to find someone to help me with that, as you can see - me and sealant don't mix  I just had the damn lid made too and seriously doubt I'll be able to get that guy back again to help me  Does anyone know of anyone who can reseal tanks, I'd be willing to pay of course.

What is involved in the resealing process? Is that completely removing all silicone so the tank is in bits or resealing over the top of existing silicone?

The push down part to open the hoses has come out of alignment, does anyone know how this can be corrected please? It doesn't seem to come apart any further.

I've just discovered my large tank has a small leak in the bottom in the middle. I thought I might try to seal it with silicone hoping it will work if sealing the outside of the tank only - so my question is, can silcone be applied to a wet surface or is there something else to use?
-
Then I need some advice on how to proceed, I'm fairly sure that if I say I won't pay him until it's fixed that he'll tell me to get stuffed, plus he knows where I live and I have no idea what sort of psycho he could be. He wants his clamp back and he's still got 2 small lids I need (though I have interim ones he put on the tank that will do but the ones he's got will be better) What would you do? I had arranged to drop off the clamp and collect the lids and pay him the originally agreed $75 tomorrow morning after the gym.

So going back to my earlier question, would the brace in pic 2 on page 2 support a hood light?
-
Thank you Ira and Sam

No I haven't paid him yet, I was going to pay him when I dropped the clamp off and picked up the lids this weekend. I'm concerned that the edge where it's only holding by a slither won't support the weight of the hood light - what do you think? Because if I say to him I won't pay until he fixes it, I think he'll just tell me to stuff it so I might be stuck with that job. Also, regarding hood lights - it doesn't have an on/off switch, I have to plug it in and unplug it to turn it on/off which is a pain, how easy is it to get a switch put in?

The central brace is 10mm glass whereas he had 6mm glass so had to remove the 10mm brace and replace with 6mm one, while that's setting a clamp is in place to hold the tank together. Here are the pics, the first one shows the hole he made only to fit the filter pipe and nothing else when I said I wanted it to fit everything in that gap so heaters etc. sat snugly against the side wall: So he broke the one at the back to fit everything but didn't have the right tools and this one shows it's just on the back edge by a slither: And this is the left back edge:

I was curious to know their reason for why the cheque went from here to there before being sent to you :spop:
-
"Furthermore, you might be asking yourself how come this email, cheque or draft, Anyway, your cheque was brought to our office ..." - you can keep your spam cheque, I want to know what happens next in the story :spop:

"Furthermore, you might be asking yourself how come this email, cheque or draft, Anyway, your cheque was brought to our office by the Coca-Cola Bottling Company via a Lottery Fiduciary Claim Agent, signifying that you are a rightful winner to their Lottery Award Promo selected randomly which is powered by the Coca-Cola Bottling and India Government." I want to know!

Now I look at it, it's a pretty crap job. One support edge is literally sitting on a sliver of glass and I'm concerned it won't hold as I plan to put a pretty big hood light on top. I'll post some pics tomorrow night.

psychopath has been put into the monster tank and is finding out the hard way it's actually not very nice to pick on other fish....
-
I didn't see this, does anyone have a link?

Go hali! :happy1:
-
Yep :tears: I researched them carefully before buying and they can pick on slow moving fish with flowing tails but generally they only harrass each other. I asked the seller if she had any incidence of them picking on other fish and she said no and to be honest, I have only seen them harrass each other and none of the others but they were definitely on my radar to go just in case because no-one picks on plec :an!gry I have to assume it was krib and perhaps plec just didn't get over the beating that she dished out to him to point of becoming ill, or maybe he was ill and so picked on - I really am not sure. Kribs are meant to be community fish but that female was just mean
-
Yes it is - do you know something about him James? I bought a fighter from him a while ago - he assured me the one I got was veil tail but it wasn't (and it didn't look it to me at the time but who was I to question the breeder?) - however, the fighter is a cool wee fish who just bobs about the tank and I love him Yes I made it plain that I wouldn't pay anymore and did he want me to drop the clamp off etc. (as clearly he wasn't happy about coming to my place again) and now he's tried to put the s**ts up me about removing the clamp properly or I could damage the tank
-
I'm not sure, I noticed him hiding in the back with ripped fins and tail and assumed it was my krib now picking on him once her previous victim was gone (she's a vindictive cow who killed my large female swordtail and then had moved on to my discus but discus was too fast for her so I wasn't worried), so, I expected she had found another victim in plec so removed her promptly from the tank. But he stayed in the same spot so I assumed he wasn't aware she was gone or that something else was having a go - I had recently introduced some black widow tetras but they generally harrass each other not other fish but was watching closely just in case. Plec moved toward the front of the tank so I figured he was coming right - but tonight I noticed he was in the same spot as yesterday.... :tears: I guess he was sick and I didn't realise assuming his hiding was due to being picked on. He was lovely - all head and not much body but so pretty &c:ry

His text says this: "Hi to come out and fix your tanks braces and lids would cost $75 this inc glass & travel." He's now saying he wants to charge me for removing a partition in another tank. In our email exchange, I had said: "do you have a good (or know) an easy way to remove siliconed partitions? I have a corner that’s been sealed off in another tank and would like your advice on the best way to proceed" and he replied: "To remove silicon is easy with a razor blade i will bring one with me." But when he came out, he started scraping the outside to remove silicon stuck to the glass (there wasn't any) so clearly misunderstood a very clearly explained email from me, when I explained what I wanted (remove the partition) he realised he misunderstood but removed it for me anyway. NOW he suddenly wants to charge for it! So I've pointed out that he should have said it would be another charge once he realised what it was I wanted before doing it, or showed me how to do it and left me to it. He wants to charge $20 for removing the partition and waiving the rest of the extra charges. He builds tanks as a hobby and sells them on TM.

Waaah! I lost my Royal &c:ry :tears:

I got a repy to my email last night to state that the bracing for the lids wasn't included in the price and he had to replace the existing central bracing as the glass was too thick (10mm whereas he works with 6mm glass). So he'd either have to build lids etc in 10mm glass, which would cost more, or do it all for 6mm which is what he had - I told him we'd use 6mm but he didn't say that removing the old brace and adding another would increase the cost as well. Furthermore, I said in my wordy email to him when I explained what I wanted that he'd have to make supports for the lids and sent 4 photos of the top at different angles so he could easily see there were no support braces there at all. Then there's still the travel issue - he has to visit my place 3x times he said when he factored in only once. He also said that he had to spend more time on it as I wasn't happy with the holes for filter pipes and heaters. He had made circular holes for only the pipes to fit and heaters would go in a gap of the lid that was further forward of the tank and not right against the tank walls as I preferred, so I asked him to fix it as I didn't like it. All he had to do was cut out a corner in the corner of each brace so I was surprised with the circular holes. I thought we were clear on what was required so am surprised he got it quite wrong. So, my response to him last night was that the support braces for the lids should have been included in the price as I made it plain that they'd need to be made (and it was apparent in the photos). As travel is such an issue to him, I said I'd return the brace clamp and pick up the lids (as that's all that needs to be done now) instead of him coming out to my place again. So that's where i left it, then I went to bed. He's supposed to be coming around straight after when I get home from work tonight so will check emails to see what's what.
