  1. Did you get your FX5? How much did it cost?
  2. I'm going the chop off the branches of mine tomorrow to grow new plants, and will dunk the main plant in the fish tank too - can't hurt to try.
  3. Clip here says how to save the plant if it's yellowing (or at least take cuttings if the main stalk is yellowing) to start new plants: This one shows a good way to water
  4. Ah, then it wasn't so much that they were stressed but were blending in with their surroundings - well I feel better then
  5. yep, all settled in: They were all like wee ghosts - very pale while in their bins, even the krib had lost her stripes she was so pale so clearly not happy at all But within 10 mins of putting them back in the tank, they started to colour up again
  6. I think they're sparrow's eggs - they're generally that colour.
  7. They sure are! In fact, I think the red tiger has got bigger while being in the bin He's now somewhat larger than the albino.
  8. How are these threads bumped from nowhere? Anyway, mine is my dog's name who unfortunately passed away at the tender age of 6: I think many assume that Jaide is my real name though I do have a cat called James but I think using that name would confuse people
  9. No, it's flush to the edge of the long middle drawer which sticks out forward a bit of the main dresser top, and is exactly the length of the dresser - hard to see in the pic as it's taken at an angle.
  10. They prefer to be root bound and sit in water. Mine is also in the small pot with stones it came in and also yellowing. It's in a sunny room but not direct sunlight. Says on the instructions: Temperature: requires warm conditoins, indoors only. Watering: roos need to be submerged in water at all times. Light: low light, avoid direct sunlight. OK, but a girl at work has one growing well and it's a bright sunny room at the office - maybe airconditioned rooms help :dunno:
  11. It sure is! I call this my fish room, anyone who sleeps here ends up sleeping with the fish OK, here are pics of fish in bins - pics are taken at daily water changing/feeding time. Pair of oscars, krib, pink convict and one very large pleco (hiding in his log): Tinfoil barb, 2x silver dollars, red jewel and one very unhappy severum who's hiding in the bell: Tank heating up - look how green it is! :bounce:
  12. I think the FX5 is a little pricey. What about the CF2700 - they're for tanks up to 800 litres and Hollywood have them on sale for $349. Anyone know how much they charge for shipping? I think an Eheim filter will be far too expensive as well, for the size filter I'll need.

Yep and I was going to be your first customer
  14. This is the tank before the leak, with fish: The new tank pretty much looks exactly the same, except it's empty. I'm filling it up today but just need a hand with the garden hose and getting it through the window, so fish will be in bins for a few more days yet. I might take some pics of fish in bins - but you'll only get the tail of the severum as he's stuck himself firmly in an ornament sulking, same with the pleco.

I would like one, but I'd want it to be albino with long fins - plain BNs are otherwise a bit boring
  16. Hmmm well, the pit digging endeavour is as far as it got and then I guess they lost interest, as they're both swimming around the tank as if nothing happened. Or eggs were laid and were eaten by the other fish in the tank - but I never saw the female in the cave, only the male :dunno: Maybe that was a practice run
  17. Update: my newly built tank has arrived back looking better than new. Peter said he had to replace the bottom glass as apparently that was cracked but didn't charge extra to do that which was very sweet of him He's only just done the bracing for the lids so I won't fill up the tank until tomorrow (as he instructed) when the sealant should then be dry so it won't be another couple of days until the fish are in their tank again but so far they've last well - not a single casualty
  18. Thanks for all the suggestions, I'd prefer to run just one filter as god knows one is bad enough to clean out let alone two. I have trouble pulling the damn thing apart to clean out the media - is there an easy way to break the seal? To prime the filter, I just pour water into the inlet hose until it starts to come out of the outlet hose. Place inlet hose in the tank and turn the filter on and it's good to go
  19. The filter I currently run is inadequate so need to upgrade - any suggestions please of what to get instead.
  20. What a jerk you are. The reason I asked is because I've read about it quite often on the net that it seems very common for these particular breeds to cross breed. It was a genuine question and you had to be a completely nasty about it.
  21. I was thinking about crossing my T-Bar with my pink convict. They're both Central American cichlids and very closely related but I guess cross-breeding is a no no?
  22. I'll just be glad to have the tank back that's properly fitted out so I will no longer worry about either fish jumping out (before lid was made) or coming home from work to find flood in the leaky stage - this tank has been quite stressful since I bought it :nilly: Day #1 in the bins and no casualties so far....
