  1. thats one fat looking fighter! nice shots, better than anything ive been able to do
  2. that saftey factor is fine. just dont throw things at the tank. and isnt it a bit deep for most plants p44? like would light get low enough, probally a haven for crypts
  3. you can get clip on lights from the wharehouse for around $10 each, fit one with an incandecent bulb and the other with a UV bulb. but the uv bulb i picked up requires a screw fitting, and the wharehouse lamps arnt.

    ammonia:(

water changes every day 25-50% for 2 weeks then reassess whats happening with the recycle leave the ph as changing it will stress your fish more prime is a chemical used to help cycle tanks, same stuff at stress zyme i would leave all the ordaments in when you clean, just gravel vac around/ under if theyr small.

    ammonia:(

cleaning the filter media generally kills the bacteria living in it as tap water has chlorine in it. ild suggest daily water changes for a while until the ammonia's back down to virtually 0.

did you test the ammonia of the tap water?
  8. im not a crypt expert but my sword plants are the same.
  9. here you go, http://s766.photobucket.com/albums/xx30 ... ick_album/ when you are in your photo bucket account you put your courser over the picture and copy and paste the 'IMG code' but the picture you uploaded to photo bucket is too big to show on this forum and needs to be resized before you can make them show normally on the forum
  10. took the bus from auckland to blenheim, oh so booring apart from having a beer or 2 before sitting in the theatre on the ferry to watch 'the incredibles' i would go for the train/ drive yourself. if you drive then you can stop where you want, explore a few places and visit a fish shop or foom on the way.
  11. hollywood fish farm. i was at the albany one not long ago and they had a few halfmoon females that looked alright. they where marbles too, unsure if thats your thing as they change colour throughout their lives, start as a drap coloured guy with a bit of spotting then turning into a georgus blue butterfly then back again.
  12. personally i would have a male fighter and 4-6 females in the larger tank and maybe a small number of corys or skunk loaches. and leave the dannios in the 25l. others will disagree with putting male and female fighters in the same tank as the male can harass the female too much but if theres 4-6 then the pressure from the male advances will be spread out amongst the girls. but there are some rules to doing this. get all female fighters from the same person, shop, tank. as if they have been seperated they can be agressive towards each other. have a long finned fighter as having longer fins makes him slower so the girls can run away faster. and plant it, so that there is a bit of cover for everyone so that line of sight can be broken between the fish. and have low water current when i first started fish keeping this is how i had my first setup and was great as you always get to see the male flaring to the girls
  13. i was just at the albany store and didnt notice these, but saw what i thought where silver dollars near the male fighter tank on the lower rack, that might of been them
  14. could be keen, pics would be great.
  15. if he does nothing to the mirror i would card him so he cant see any other fish for a few days then remove the carding and see what he does
  16. lol makes soooo much more cents
  17. but HFF isnt in manuakau, that sentence confuses me :-?
  18. where abouts in the world are you? i might be tempted to buy them from you depending on where in NZ you are
  19. i talked to him a bit when i last saw him about this. he said it was great and had no problems and kept the water movement in the tanks quite low for fry. he uses pumice sand that was mined from the waikato river near tuakau but that plants shut down since but its very similar to daltons propagating sand. from what i rember he didnt have much in the way of ordaments or plants in the tanks though except breeding cones IIRC
  20. what type of canister filter are you using? i have 2 and have just stuffed one in the corner as im sick of it too, i find the main problem is that the canister filter needs to be easily acessable and that it must have taps on the tank side of the disconnects so you can take the canister filter away without having to re run the pipes or disconnect it and have a nice siphon onto the floor
  21. dam it, this is what it was: yea the double tail is quite a deformity and their bodies are normally quite short and stumpy. they are around as ive seen some in nz before, think it was animates henderson when i was last there. the DT gene is recessive but shouldnt be DT DT bread but more DT ST then breed the DTxST offspring to a DT
  22. http://bettysplendens.com/articles/page ... icleid=879 i dont think its worth the effort to find out yourself. the double tails seem to be a bit rearer in the shops now days ive got a new project for you david.... http://bettysplendens.com/articles/photog.imp?img={CA7C41A4-FC35-4CE4-9FFC-F91807D4C93B}_wasanbetta.jpeg&articleid=3957&cutline=1&page=http%3A%2F%2Fbettysplendens.com%2Farticles%2Fpage.imp%3Farticleid%3D3957
