I would stay with the Shark or Fluval internal filters. they use a sponge and don't have room for noodles. work ok, but require monthly cleaning depending on the amount of waste your fish produce.

Do you think I should bring along 3kg of fresh sausages too? I work next door to Hellers Smallgoods go get a good deal at their factory shop. Just don't ask what flavour they are as it varies day to day.

I believe you can add at least 2 x that many fish to your tank. just make sure you have a nice filter like a flubal 405 as a minimum.

If you have a concrete floor, then you can place it anywhere if you have a wooden floor, then the best place is against a wall. Heater Best to go with two 200w heaters, for safety if budget is tight, then go with 1 300w heater and place it by the outlet of the filter. Filter go with something nice an big, my preference is with a fluval 405 but I know of the aqua one 1200 external filter works well too. No doubt somebody will have other suggestions. There is no single way in doing things, what works for you is best.

When I first started keeping fish, 5 years ago, I used to use carbon. now I don't bother with it, unless I need to take meds out of the tank. you would be better off using extra porous media like ceramic noodles and the like. the more porus the material, the more beneficial bacteria you are going to have, and having a sponge before the water returns to the tank is better than using filter wool... (IMHO) filter wool clogs up too fast for my liking.

Sorry David no fry now they either died, eaten or got sucked up by the filter. the parents however are digging again, so fingers crossed, they will survive.

As Caryl Said: Check your insurance policy. I checked mine and actually had each tank added to my policy. so if anything should break and splash all over my electronic equipment, it all gets replaced.
