  1. My community tank is only 100l, in it is: 2 medium angels 6 black widow tetra 3 glowlights 3 male guppies - will prob take these guys out 3 BN And the 2 rams I'm a bit concerned about the angels and black widow tetras eating the eggs, although the rams are being pretty territorial and won't let anything near where they're hanging out.
  2. I have a pair of blue rams who are displaying spawning behaviour in my community tank. I'd like to keep the babies (if I can hatch and raise them). Should I move the parents to another tank? The only ones they can really go in is a 15l hospital tank, or a 50l tank with either lionheads or guppies + corys. Alternatively, I could just leave them in the community tank and plant heavily around where they are laying. Help would be much appreciated!!
  3. I'm sorry, I didn't realise it was mandatory to check every post every day and reply Thanks for all your responses, guys. Tank has found a new home with someone who will love it and fix it.

    puffer fish

Hmmm. What freshwater puffers are there?

    puffer fish

I know that some pet stores will order them in for you. If you like puffers, get a green spotted one. They're so cute. I want a puffer too...
  6. I use builders mix from bunnings. It's $6 for 25kg, and as long as you wash it throughly, it's great in a tank.
  7. I know barbs have a pretty bad reputation and are known to be fin-nippers, but in my experience with rams (Blue rams), the rams are able to hold their own and win in any fight. The rams can get pretty territorial, but remember, they usually hang out in the bottom of the tank, whereas the barbs school midwater. I've never had a problem with tigers (or any fish) picking on rams, so depending on the temperament of the individual fish, they should be ok.
  8. I have a PS3. It's awesome. Graphics are better than the XBox IMO, but the sticking point is games. What sort of games do you want? Have a look at the sort of games, and make your decision based on that. Top 10 PS3 games and Top 10 Xbox games Also, if you're going to be buying games second hand, have a look on TM at the prices of each sort of game second hand. All in all though, I'd recommend the PS3 over the Xbox
  9. No, they all live in a slightly brackish community tank - it's not salty enough to strictly be considered brackish - about 2/3 salt of a brackish tank. I did acclimatize all the fish very slowly though from when they were all babies.
  10. I've got big angels with bumblebee gobys, and the angels don't touch them. I think the yellow and black stripes act as really good warning signals, and I never have a problem with them an other fish.
  11. Thanks for your replies guys. How hardy are they? And what do they eat - are they likely to eat cory fry (3weeks +)??
  12. I like theses little guys and was wondering how much they usually cost as I haven't seen any in stores - or maybe I haven't been looking. I haven't been able to find much information about breeding - are they easy to breed in aquariums?
  13. The van looks so cool. I need one.
  14. You found it in your car? Ew... I hope I don't have any in my car, it looks slimy... :-?
  15. Huh, what do you know...google is helpful! This is a pretty good explaination of whitespot. http://www.fishkeeping.co.uk/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=2495&forum=14
  16. I kind of just thought whitespot is an infection from stress, injury, infection etc. Is it something carried in the water? I use tapwater and rainwater from Wellington - any idea if this could have white spot in it? I found a gup tonight with 1 whitespot - could have been whitespot, or an infection as she had been scratched and scraped on something. I euthanised her (because of her other injuries). I've never had whitespot in my tanks before and see no reason why I'd get it now - so, is it really in the water?
  17. Look at the side of the fish, there's a black spot. If it black spot has blue spots in it, it's a girl. Otherwise, he's a boy. If he's eating and doesn't seem worried about it, just keep an eye on it but don't stress. If he's well coloured and seems to be healthy looking (rounded tummy, alert in the tank etc), it probably isn't worms. But even if it is worms, it probably wont hurt him too much. Add some salt if you're worried (make sure your other fishes will be ok with it first), or give him a salt bath. Salt fixes lots of things.
  18. Do you think it might just be a poop? Maybe he's constipated.
  19. I'll have yellow snakeskin fry in a few months - just waiting to see what the babies actually turn out like though!
  20. I can't see it sticking for very long...I guess it depends on what you're sticking it to.
  21. Awesome, In that case, how much am I looking at for a 100L tank? Does anyone know of somewhere in Wellington that has good, cheap tanks?
  22. So...what happens at a club meeting? I'd like to go, and come and meet some of you guys in person - I'm really keen to come to the next one. Can someone tell me what to expect?
  23. OMG - that's what the orange things were??? I've never been able to hatch them either - well, maybe I have! I thought they'd look like sea monkies...
  24. I have a standard 3ft tank with a crack down the long pane. It's been sitting empty in my driveway, and I'd like to get it back up and running, but I'm not sure if I'll be better off taking out the pane and replacing it, or just cutting my losses and finding a new tank. How much does will it cost to replace the glass? I can fit it myself, but don't want to cut it. So, what's the going rate of a 3ft piece of glass?
  25. The fishies are beautiful, and all for a good cause too, so why not go for it and get some too? Thanks guys for the awesome fish, hope the guppies go well too!
