  1. oooohhhh....what's an overflow compared to a sump? I have a sump. Well, my tank overflows into a sump, then goes back to the tank...
  2. Not that I have a beardie or anything, but from my obsessive research, lots of people overseas seem to give it to them, or will gutload their crickets on it. http://www.beardeddragon.org/ I lurk there, and they have a lot of interesting stuff about beardies on there, so maybe check it out.
  3. It's .9x.4x.5 I'm getting about 180L, but I really really thought that it was more like 120L....That means with the sump, it's 100L. No wonder I have to add so much salt water!
  4. I'm having a mental breakdown...how many litres are in a standard 3ft tank?
  5. This isn't true. There are many resources on fishless cycling. To begin the nitrogen cycle, you need a source of ammonia. Fish waste is 1 source, but many people use a piece of shrimp or other nutrient rich dead thing which introduces ammonia into the tank. Personally, I don't like cycling with fish; what do I do with the fish when I'm done? There aren't any of my own fish that I am willing to risk loosing, and I'm not going to buy a fish just for the purposes of stressing it out and possibly killing it.
  6. when I was thinking of getting some, I did some research and apparently they are shy unless there are fish bigger than them in the tank. Not sure if that's actually the case though. Maybe PM mystic, I know she used to have some (maybe still does) and her tanks are great and interesting.
  7. Name: Lauren Sex: Female Age: 20 Status: In a relationship Maybe we could make this thread the official fishforum dating scene, it might be the only way for some of us to get together with people who understand why it's important to stare at tanks with just water in them for so long.
  8. Sponges are quite good too. They don't last forever, but they have a good surface area for the bacteria.
  9. I love green corys, but only when they're really vibrant green, not just silvery green.
  10. I'm in love with their dog faced puffer. I wonder how much he costs? Has anyone asked?
  11. Animalz on Jackson st. On the right hand side (if going towarda eastbourne) by the traffic lights
  12. I found some really thin black pavers at bunnings, which are perfect. Once the tank's filled and cleared, I'll post some pics, they'll look pretty cool I think.
  13. Fantastic, thanks so much caryl.
  14. I'm looking for bricks with holes in them for my cichlids. The usual hardware stores don't have them or will only sell by the pallet. Any ideas where I could get some bricks or slate?
  15. Hmmm. I didn't think Wellington water had much chlorine added. I never add anything to the water. I do try to leave it sitting for a day or 2 though
  16. Just out of interest, can someone draw a picture of where a sump hole should be? Mines in the end pannel about 5cm from the top.
  17. Did you seriously just necropost a 2 month old thread to wrongly correct me?
  18. F8s need at least 40l each, if you have two they need at least 6 0l, but would do better in 100l because they do not handle ammonia or other nasties. They can also get quite aggressive, that's why a bigger tank is better. F8s are quite easy to keep if you have the right tank for them; clean water, and lots of things to look at and explore in their tanks as they're very smart and get aggressie and destructive if they aren't entertained.
  19. It's glass. We had the same conversation a few months ago about whether the 380s are glass or acrylic, too! I think they seem like acrylic because they're so thin
  20. Livingart, did you stick the perspex on the inside?
  21. F8s need a SG of about 1.005-1.008. They can go up to 1.012 Marine is from about 1.018. F8s can't live in full marine. GSPs can, but they need much more space. Remember, when raising your SG, do it by no more than 1.002 a week. Your filter needs time to adapt from fresh to salty bacteria. When you say they haven't been doing well, what do you mean?
  22. You can score and snap perspex. Get a really sharp craft knife, make a straight and solid score, then snap it off in 1 motion.
  23. Just the one beardie in there? That's an awesome big home for him! What substrate is he on?
  24. I'm nervous too. I have a 620, not the 620T. It's about 5 years old and has been going strong, but I'll be moving it in a new months and I'm worried it'll go then.
