  1. Ick, I don't like that one. I went in there a few times and their tanks were always really overstocked and really really dirty.
  2. They breathe through their bellies, as long as they're moist they can continue gas exchange to a certain extent. They usually die via osmosis rather than 'drowning'. So, sounds like it should be fine to feed them?
  3. Is there any reason why I can't feed slaters to my fish? I'm thinking about feeding some cichlids and puffers. From the research I've done, I can't seem to find any reason why I can't, but I thought I'd ask all of you guys first.
  4. They can survive being sucked up, but they are often uncolored and stunted because they can't grow very big. They don't seem to have too many problems being sucked up actually. To prevent it, you can put filter wool over the intake.
  5. Make sure you keep us updated on how it goes, I'm interested in doing it, but I have to find the time first!
  6. Hey, I can't answer your questions, but its awesome to see that you're finding out all you can before taking the jump and getting the lizard.
  7. You have to 'apply' to google to get your site linked; so they have an online form you fill out with your web address and some details about your site. It takes a few weeks. iWeb has a button you can add which is a search bar, but there are lots of different sorts; type html search box into google.
  8. Speaking of syringes, where can I get them from without looking like a drug addict?
  9. Oh, good. I need to change mine too! Thx.
  10. If that doesn't work, try mobile me. Its a mac thing you buy, and you can host your website on it. You just buy a domain (about $40 for a .co.nz, or $10 for a .com) and you're off. In terms of making websites, I used iWeb, a mac program and it's really really easy. I cracked out my business website in about 2 hrs. www.wetnz.co.nz
  11. I had the same problem when I did a 60 % w/c in my tank. I back flushed my filter, and put filter wool over my filter intake. It cleared it up overnight, and now it's amazingly clear.
  12. Don't worry, they're not actually hungry. If they're hungry you'll see them eating at plants, algae, suction cups and each other. They just act it because usually you feel sorry for them and feed them! Good job cutting down the feeding, it'll deal with your ammonia pretty quickly.
  13. 5 - 7 days. With mine, it depended on temp.
  14. I agree with Whetu and Caryl, but if you're going to get an inclusive one, I'd recommend the Aqua One AR980. My first tank was an AR620, the AR980s baby sister. They're good tanks, and you can modify the lid to put in a sump/canister filter into the cabinet.
  15. I know, right? That's why I can't have dragons; until I can provide a wicked home like that, I'll feel bad that they could be with someone who has an awesome home like that!
  16. You know, that's so true. I see so many questions and answers here that go 'I've got *** wrong with my fish' inevitabily, the answer is 'do a water change, and another 1 tomorrow'. If we keep our water in good condition, we'll keep our fish in good condition.
  17. I really want a pet duck or chicken. Apparently they need lots of space though.
  18. Wow, that looks awesome! Good job!
  19. Got Discus, I see? Those tanks are awesome
  20. It depends where you're flying to, too. If you're on a teeny tiny plane travelling from Wellington to Nelson or something, they probably wouldn't bother, but Welly to Auckland or Chch they do. Interestingly, Chch to Welly they don't screen you or your stuff.
  21. I love how excited we're all getting over school books. I really can't do the binder thing, I never take a holepunch, so I have loose paper everywhere, then I accidently rip my refill and loose important pages....it's just a disaster! Books are much easier. Sometimes I like to pretend I'm 7 again, and glue things in
  22. You could do more frequent water changes, that would make it safer while you learn not to overfeed. If you did 2 w/c a week, it should keep your ammonia right down.
  23. I use exercise books, usually 2-3 per subject for every half trimester. I write on 1 side of the page, and leave the other side blank, that way when I'm studying, I can write in extra notes in the other half, and everything's in 1 place. I can't organise refill, so I don't even try now! Paper Plus had pretty good prices, and you get Fly Buys too.
  24. Lol, that's what you get for living in Wanganui! The petshop in Coastlands carpark still has their marine display, it's pretty good. The shop attached to Animalz in petone have a good range of marines, and always have nice clean tanks (partially due to lighting, I think). There's a couple of girls there who know their stuff. Hutt Pets is good, just down the road from Animates, so you can always go to both.
