  1. **ducks into thread** Someone said tequila? **oh....we're talking fish? Laters.....**
  2. What are your water parameters? Does it or anything else in the tank have any other symptoms? We need more information to help.
  3. I don't understand...no one's insinuating that you should/shouldn't move your tank from season to season. That's just silly, and I don't think anyone does that. It's also not what the post is about. There may have been many reasons why she needed to move the tank across the room. I'm also not disagreeing with the way you propose to move tanks, so calm down for 5 minutes and read what I've written. Yes, tanks can break from stress caused by a move. To lessen this, move it on a flat, strong surface, and empty it completely. If you're moving a tank across a room, you should do it no differently from how you would if you were to move to another city; except that your filter can probably just be switched off then plugged back in again in the 10 mins it takes to move it.
  4. I agree, you're better off emptying it and doing a good clean but keeping the filter media wet with oxygen to keep that going, than dealing with a broken tank
  5. Pro tip: this is not how to make friends or influence people.
  6. The only way you can get away with not emptying a tank when you move it is when you move it on whatever it's been sitting on. I was just thinking; do the aquaone tanks have a plastic lip around the bottom that prevents the glass from actually touching whatever it's sitting on?
  7. Great, that can go in my easter prezzie basket too. I hate not having a job
  8. Mine came from bunnings too!! They raised the pH through the roof, and I'm not sure if it's because they're broken, or what, but I want them to not hurt my fishies!
  9. Shrug. My bottle says 'Use caution: Carcinogenic". I believed it.
  10. I know what you mean...I've been researching for 2 years and now I'm just thinking about filling my tank with salt water this weekend. Then it'll be a couple of months before I move the fish over, and months later before I add any corals or anything. I just can't believe that people go out there and by a living animal without doing any research.
  11. Maybe we should make it a fun day at Ryan's, and he can school us all
  12. Wow, that pic is awesome, I'm scared of piling up big heavy rocks though. I also know what a pain it is to take them all out to catch 1 silly fish You'll have to do a photo diary of your current tank to new dem tank, I can't wait. I'm so excited for you!!!
  13. I have some awesome bricks that made my tank look really cool: Unfortunately, they also raised my pH to something crazily high, and killed some of my fish. Can I use polyurethane to seal them so they can't leech?
  14. I just got some. Trust me, you won't regret making the change; they are stunning fish. I don't know if I'd go for coral personally, even though I know some people who have white substrate that looks awesome, I just think it would take so much work to keep it bright and clean. Also, darker colours tend to bring out the fish colours better; my dem tank is all black and their colours are so bright and great. You can't really see the dems there, but imagine them all swimming around; it's impressive!
  15. I swear I spoke to her about them! Ignore me!
  16. Spoon, what's that holey rock in the background of your tank? It's awesome.
  17. Oooohhh. Mudskippers are great. You need Stella, she's one of the other go-to's on natives. She's got/had mudskippers.
  18. If the fish are stressed, other problems can be more likely to pop up, so things like being bullied could potentially contribute. If I have a major problem in a tank, I'll do 2 50% water changes a day. As long as the temp in the tank stays pretty consistent and the water isn't chlorinated, and your filter is established, there's not really a way to do too many water changes. In some cases, some people have to do 90% water changes and the fish are fine. There's a saying in fishkeeping: We don't keep fish, we keep water. Basically, the healthier you keep your water, the healthier your fish will be; and in a tank, the only way to get rid of nasties is to dilute, dilute, dilute!
  19. I love the idea of doubling the sump as a fry tank, I might have to steal that idea!
  20. I can't find a pic, but they're flat round snails. Funny looking.
  21. It's a carcinogen and poisonous, so I'll leave it to someone else to try!
  22. Sounds like some sort of bacterial bloom. Water changes and time are what you need.
  23. There are also pond snails and those funny flat ones.
