  1. ive had the java fern since july... lol... was a massive bunch - most beautiful thing ever. looks terrible now... it won't die out completely... but won't grow or anything... im ashamed to admit ive never once done a water test on this tank.....the fish seem happy so i just don't meddle with it, lol...
  2. [email protected] send me the pic there.... ill post it up.. or if you have a photobucket account upload the pic there, click on the img code and paste it on here...
  3. 1.) Java fern or Moss WILL not grow in my tank. no matter what I do. I source the most beautiful java fern ever and all it does is go dark green and then gets holes in it. 2.)The anubias does well for a couple of weeks, gets me really excited and then dies out, only to sprout heaps of small leaves. 3.)but the biggest problem I have is with my dwarf val. I got all my plants at the same time, and planted them in the tank. the dwarf val on the LHS of the tank doesn't look happy - it looks skinny and small with only a couple of healthy leaves sprouting... the RHS of the tank is perfect. the val is awesome! can any one help me and tell me what is going on here... i mean ive got the same plants, in the same water, with the same fish and the same light in the same tank.... what am i doing wrong??? lighting on the tank is 2xT5 power glo; and 1xmarine blue and 1xplant gro (both T8's). The attached pics show my tank from the LHS to the RHS. notice the difference in the val... its shocking... many thanks to anyone who can help.
  4. you can post a pic of it right here... if you don't know how just email me the pic and ill put it up for you...
  5. ill be using this lille hang on filter i have lying around....those shark filters are overrated IMO, are there any alternatives you can get???.... to see what i mean, look at the size of the sponge in them... i could be wrong though.. i just never did like them much - but then again maybe in a small tank it will be ok? Im going to use this exo-terra red sand as substrate if i can order it in... looks great underwater...
  6. cool! :bounce: Ill be in auckland in november sometime, would love to come and see some killifish. i do prefer the normal colour variation on the Nigripinnis though, it certainly would make a very unique addition to any tank...
  7. that albino thing is one weird lookin killie... looks like a smashed up albino krib, lol.
  8. thanks guys! i should be getting the half red and blue ct soon so ill put pics of him up too... i thought albino would be cool... not very common in fighters, had one years ago...never seen anything like him again. the golden male sorta looks like a gba lol... i wish the black male would have the breeding urge, lol....
  9. looks like a bumblebee pleco to me! really nice tank too btw! I like!
  10. she is a mere figment of our wild imaginations  she exists.... or does she???
  11. i think the first boy is well erm... not into women. i had 4 for him to choose from. no flaring, no bubble nests, nothing. nada, zilch I will be setting up 2 nano's with hang on filters... planted and everything. pure laterite on the bottom with a thin layer of gravel to keep it down. Tanks will sit side by side... still planning in my study breaks, lol... =) ill set up the first tank at the end of this week... put pics of your nano up so i get some ideas, lol... oh ill be using dwarf val in the nano, with goodness knows what else, lol...
  12. Thanks! I just wish he was albino, lol...
  13. what? get a fluval or an eheim
  14. yeah i wouldn't put a fish in one of those permanently; its quite depressing.... I need two 20L tanks or so for the yellow male and the other red and blue that is with a friend... they should be happy in that... hopefully. i feel guilty keeping the yellow in a guppy breeder when the black one has 4ft of swimming space.
  15. First one is a CT black velvet cross with something to give him the dark blue... looks jet black in the tank though. There is another male on the way - a blue and red CT. Looks like I will be setting up individual tanks for the fighters, lol... I couldn't resist getting them.
  16. not sure about that product aye.. but normally those paints only reflect when light hits the paint at a certainly angle. Or more importantly it depends on where you look at it from... the shiny side of tin foil is great for a cheap way to reflect more light... but cheap warehouse mirrors (12bucks) are awesome if you have a tank that is big enough.

  23. i had 3 at one time in freshwater, with the usual addition of salt (mind you i add a lot more salt in freshwater than most ppl do)... they were fine until they poisoned( or did something evil) to 6 huge blue acaras, and many other expensive fish.... and were then given away... i reckon they will eat your cories. plus isn't 40L too small for them anyways? the last thing you want is a stressed out puffer... hope this helps
  24. what about red and greeny blue? like a neon or cardinal tetra.
