  1. mel what i mean by slowly is not all the way up to 30 in one day... you can keep it at 27 - 28 today and put it up to 30 say tomorrow sometime. not sure what fish you have in your tank but i know neons do not take very well to temps like that... caryl is also right... stress does cause whitespot, as some ppl say... plant your tank heavily... make it look nice. let the fish have hiding spots, and with a higher temperature, and a more visually appealing tank you will find that things like whitespot are a thing of the past! :bounce:
  2. o0O... this is a different batch to what i thought they were... not sure if these are the real altum (as in like the pics of the perfect specimen you will find online or in the wild). - do you get the true "altum" in NZ??? have heard of a couple ppl selling them but never seen the real deal fully grown in NZ.
  3. NCEA was a piece of cake and i felt it was a waste of time, lol. i did: physics, geography, english, maths (L2) Stats (L3), chemistry, biology and not to mention getting "credits" to gain uni entrance is sooo easy!  just finished my last 3rd year uni exam today, so BEST OF LUCK to every one who has exams coming up.
  4. if you want to avoid white spot in the future, just keep the temperature of the water really high. just make sure you change the temp gradually over a few days. my tank currently sits at 30degrees, and never once in the past 8 years or so have i got white spot. high temperatures are in the extremes of the ick's optimal zones.
  5. that is the whole point of change mc.cain would have been another bush. lawyers are smart. they look at things analytically - unlike soldiers who look at things only in the way they are trained to do so.
  6. add some salt to your water... not sure it will help but they like salt.
  7. If im thinking of the same batch, they were ordered in specifically as altums from this breeder in auckland who sold them as altums. you never know what you have though until they are big enough to tell... Ithink these were F1's as well...
  8. their economy can't afford a civil war, lol... but a war might just cure their recession. wars = big money for private and public defense companies.
  9. its true.... but all i can say is that he is the best thing the americans could have possibly wanted. Edit Billaney , lets keep off that subject please
  10. HE WON :bounce: Edit for a 2nd time Billaney
  11. I hope he wins... i really do. the world needs it at the moment. then again bush was elected twice. second time was a technicality.. but still....
  12. bingo! lead is safe, without getting too technical.... (in that form in the aquarium) stella is spot on. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  13. ok maybe not a sheep. :bounce:

    Guppies dying

been attacked. ive seen that happen to heaps of fish when they get swallowed and then spat out. or just attacked.... esp guppies and neons.
  15. Ill trade you 5 bolivian rams (fully grown) for a discus, lol :bounce: ill throw in a sheep too.
  16. i think the discus will feel happier in my tank *steals!* *yonk*
  17. *sigh* youre lucky he makes a bubble nest. lol I had six females for him to choose from at one stage. now there is just one blue one in the same tank as him, but its no use. lol.. poor fella...
  18. people used to say that there is a certain bacteira(???) or something that lived on an angel that was not good for discus... that and the aggression thing... but honestly... i dont know of any one (maybe im wrong) who has lost a discus because the angel attacked it.... plus yours have grown up together too... discus are a lot hardier than are given credit for.. perhaps there is a strong corellation between the price of the discus and how hardy people think they are, lol... think about it... PS - I'd like to see these fish sometime olly! 8)
  19. mixing fry? if they are all small enough you can combine broods if the parents are not there... bigger fish will eat smaller fish.
  20. i always let the parents raise the fry.... they do a good job once they get the hang of it. feed brineshrimp when babies can eat it... parents like it too...
  21. i remember them.... hmm... those are some pretty fast growing fish! damn!
