  2. 21 cm for a 25W heater???????????? that's huge!
  3. oOo... well that's a pity... i like them... apparently they are from the acara family... sigh.. hope i find some.... grow them well daviDR!!!!
  4. Acarichthys heckelii aye? lol... wow! they look awesome... and they are South American! :bounce: i want and i shall have where did you get yours from, are they commonly available in AKL?
  5. lol... i might buy it then and put a pic up for one of you guys to identify.. David R - what sort of Geo's are those.. how big do they get?
  6. lol... that's weird... the suppliers sent it as a bumblebee pleco! nice to see some creative names being made up, lol.... approx how much is it worth? its for sale @ $125 here...
  7. very nice! (in a borat like accent).
  8. what is the normal name for an L205? there is one like yours at a shop here... came in as a bumblebee pleco .. when i google that i get nothing!
  9. damn... the 1 place i can get a heater from.... lol.. oh well... will find something...somewhere..somehow..
  10. haha chch? not likely to go down there for a heater or 2 or 3 even, lol... what shop?
  11. do you know where Dixon? and how much? 25W will be convenient.
  12. my tanks have always been kept at 30. never get any diseases ever. except for that one time i neglected the tank for a month and a half cause of work, assigns and exams... $900 worth of fish (at whole sale prices) died, lol... it was horrible.. lost all my fav plecos (I love plecos!). terrible times.
  13. i keep my spending under control-ish.... lol exam weeks are always the hardest.... buying fish stuff is just such good stress relief, lol... 50w heaters are the smallest ive seen... won't need a heater in summer though..
  14. yeah i dont reckon you'll need a filter... fighters like still water any ways... (u are puttin a fighter in?).... I wouldnt bother for a 10L nano... just change water once in a while... feed only as much as eaten immediately.... shove a tonne of plants in there though, lol... like a jungle..
  15. yeah ill be working at the pet shop and the bank over summer, will be moving to a new house too so u could visit easily... not flatting with any one you know.... ill be using a shared light over the nano's too... and will use painted black poly as well... works very well... the 1 filter will get shared between tanks, lol.. ill run it once a week for a day in each tank haha....
  16. naah 2... voldemort - the black ct will stay in his 4 ft home... seems unfair to move him to something smaller. the gold and the red&blue will get 1 nano each. everyone in the flat wants my tank in the lounge next year, so i can keep the nano's in my room lol. u should come to palmy some time and visit....
  17. they all have such good roots i cant possibly uproot them without completely messing up the tank... the good ones are on the RHS and the bad / poor ones on the LHS. I just want to know what about the LHS of the tank is not conducive to plant growth - its very frustrating as all you fishgeeks can imagine
  18. my black fighter is the king of my tank... he bullies all the cichlids away from him... flares up and chases them around... every fighter has a very different personality ive found... no wonder people love them as much as they do!
  19. this is the blue and red one... last of the lot... i choose these guys over a copper & black halfmoon so they had better be worth it lol  sorry about the not so good pics of this one..
  20. the pebbles on top are larger to keep my clown loaches from over digging, but the main substrate is a finer pure black pebble. about a quarter the size of the stuff that is visible.... so the rooting is excellent. i noticed this when i was siphoning the tank - i pulled 1 plant out to see what was wrong with it, and it almost removed a square foot of substrate, lol... that's why im stumped with these... maybe alanamin was right in saying that the good plants were grown emersed.... bit weird that they segregated into such distinct groups...

he was always a hog... used to stal food from all the fish. even the plecos. he once chased my gold nugget away to get the food.
  22. :bounce: congrats! they are so cute! :bounce:
  23. paint polystyrene black and stick it behind the tank... insulates too, lol... i am spending too much time and money on my fish. its ridiculous. sometimes i wonder what happens to my student budget, lol... I will look out for small lights - not sure that i have seen any that will be good for a nano.... u can hide a sponge filter in the corner or the bottom of the tank - cover it with a copious amount of plants. I don't think i will be that concerned about filtration. ill do partial waterchanges once in a while.. as the mood sets in, lol.. there will only be 1 fish in there, occasionally ill put a female fighter in there, to keep him company.
  24. they all looked the same when i got them - were from the same batch that came in from the supplier.. cause they were light green and springy when i got them.. then they went all small and flat as i expected them to.. then the RHS bit went beautiful and the LHS is the still short and flat. i treat the tank with flourish, plant gro, and flora pride.... does that make any difference?
