  1. oh no wait.. thats a dumb as thing to do.. disregard what i said above - didn't realise that u were siphoning with the filter, thought you were trying to make it work normally... the impeller only pushes the water back up in most filters, gravity pushes water into the filter, try adjusting the height level of the filter.. maybe i should just call it a night and not confuse my self any more?
  2. well that just darn tootin sucks... fill the filter with water instead of self priming it? send the filter to p-north and let me play around with it
  3. i think you should take out the impeller and then put it back in.
  4. mmmmmmmmmmm.... worms.... never actually fed this stuff to my fish.. looks like a lille piece of a rice noodle
  5. most birds will verbatim repeat things you say without knowing the meaning.. over time you can teach it the context of the word. like rusty says hello when he meets new ppl... not just as ppl are leaving... depends on how much, how well and more importantly how CONSistently you train them.... you have to follow through.. always.
  6. what about the flow control nozzle? are they open?
  7. u talk to them.. a lot... and then they will talk back when they get the hang of it... they can mimic a lot of sounds... and i mean a LOT. they usually live for about 3 -4 years in captivity as far as i know.... so not a long time commitment, like me with rusty - 30+ year commitment.... http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=AtCqJdp_IKo this is a cool video of one...
  8. whoa! that's real cool! i gave you a 5star rating, lol...
  9. yes. they caw in the wild cause its all they know... but they have an advanced vocal chord...
  10. yeah very tasty, lol.. u could train him not to do things that are "wrong". they can learn commands... look up training crows / magpies on google... should find some good things there.... that or domesticating magpies / crows.....
  11. yes indeed... evil hayfever! I couldn't study ALL DAY cause of allergies. Hate spring  evil evil seasonal change. yay for baby animals though... :bounce:
  12. you can teach him to be nice to the fish.... he'll prob poop in the tank more than any thing.. or bathe in there.... that's what rusty used to do.. but now he feeds the fish if he likes...
  13. yeah... you're telling me! lol... his stomach was completely empty (I usually dissect me fish if they die for a silly reason, or if i haven't explored that species before). never did see him eat, even when i sat there with a torch in the dark, lol.... so if you ever want one, get the pet shop to prove that the fish eats
  14. it could live outdoors in an aviary when its older and has its adult feathers.... just a thought...
  15. thats cool... u should get it... im sure you'll like it..... they are incredibly intelligent.
  16. took rusty about 5 or 6 days.... normally should take a magpie 7 - 12 days? its totally possible... how big is this magpie? does it have all its plumage?
  17. its easy (i potty trained rusty to do big poops in the morning on a handy towel that i hold out for him - then he poops, gets a kiss and he is happy as - then does lille poops throughout the day but doesn't like pooping on ppl). you just say poop every single time he poops, mornings is when they like pooping - so pick him up - say poop and wait, then he poops, say poop again, give him a treat - he will like that and associate the word poop with pooping. voila. potty trained bird. rusty hops on my finger, tenses up in the morning and does a great big poop on the handy towel that i chuck away. birds are actually clean animals, so will only dirty their surroundings if they have to.... give him an alternative - my crows had a lille sand box that they pooped in.
  18. they make mess - BUT you can potty train them. takes time and patience but it can be done. so you should definitely get him / her.
  19. R.I.P lille brown fishy wishy that refused to eat anything
  20. bingo.. or manually take it out.
  21. ok this is a radical treatment - its worked for me in the past so if you're beyond the point of no return - catch him, put him in a fish bag and leave him in there, move the bag around if you have to - the point is to stress him like they do when you take them home from the shop. then the fish will shit it out - maybe. if this is dropsy then it obviously wont work... try it if you want and lemme know if it works.
  22. no such thing as too much info, lol.. its was a great read thanks.. can't say ive ever caught a fish with white spot, lol
