A filter holds all the bacteria so you can just start off the tank with fish and everything. If there is no source of Ammonia (poo) the bacteria in the filter will die off and the tank will have to re-cycle when you do add fish.

Your young discus will be better off in water with pH 7 - 7.5 As they get older a pH between 6.5 - 7 or close enough will do. Don't chase a number; just ensure the quality of the water is high and stable.

Water flow won't have a detrimental effect on most plants (within reason). My goldfish tank is about the lowest tech tank anyone can ever imagine, with the light only ever coming on when I want to see the fish. No ferts at all and the plants do well but grow incredibly slowly. It's got cabomba, a little windelov and lots of xmas and peacock moss in there. Sand at the bottom with lotsa driftwood. Would make a good setup for some apistos or badis!

Yikes. Use prazi to deworm him and then increase the temp of the water to 30C. Treatment usually takes a few weeks I think, but that fish can be saved.

I did my water changes too today! Fish look happy and I decided to add another 600LPH powerhead on the tank. So that's 3x 1400LPH filter on the tank + a 600LPH powerhead. Goldfish laid so many eggs! They're all over the plants etc and they aren't even bothering to eat them up. I had my haircut and I'm quite happy with it, so that's all good. Also had enchiladas for dinner.

I quite like this one. Ira - this would be a piece of cake to maintain! Just do waterchanges once in a while. Prune the plants if they grow too much.... can't imagine it being much more than that. There isn't much in there to disrupt things.

I do not itch after haircuts. You didn't go to a barber did you? Anyhow, today is Friday. I got my bubble counter today. It's pure bling hahaha. I shall do a waterchange tomorrow and hopefully I am a step closer to getting a new car!

Hi and welcome. HFF and Animates will have the GLO light hoods; and as far as T5 HO lights go there isn't much better than that (over here any how).
