  1. its probably the transformer in it. dunno how you can stop it though.
  2. yeah, i don't know what attracts them to the UV filters in particular - for some reason they like playing with it and removing the suction pads etc.
  3. I know that oral contracts are binding, but running to tenancy tribunals or small claims court is not something I want to do. I'd rather just pay the money for lack of hassle. but i will ask them to type up an agreement for them paying $25pw to make up for the shortfall in rent. they should have just asked for the correct room rent :-? We have another backup laundry machine - I would have had a fit without clean clothes everyday  but we will probably have to rent a fridge till december as there is no point in me buying one, and then having to worry about moving it to who knows which city at the end of it. Least ill be able to find out what's going on when I get back on wed or thurs.
  4. Have a fun time at the meeting guys! Don't miss me too much  Ill be there next time I'm sure.
  5. mmmm. panaques I love em! they grow fast too :bounce:
  6. poor Ira. *must - not - hassle - ira  ____________ I heard back from the landlord. she said she had no idea i was out of town, and she said she was happy to have a cat in the house, but it was our choice to if we wanted a cat or not. She said it seems silly to have a cat in the house if i am allergic and if i have a bird. especially seeing as my friends who used to live there previously had 2 cats and 5 budgies, and half way through the year, only the 2 cats remained. all the budgies were killed from inside a cage. also, she said the only thing she needs is the payment of rent in full, it is upto us to decide how the money gets paid between us - but If i take off the current 2 flatmates from the tenancy agreement, and transfer the 2 new flatmates on, then the old 2 won't have any obligation (apart from a verbal one) to pay the difference in rent - and that is something they themselves decided to do. I was told that all the paper work was done and dusted, and that's obviously wrong, seeing as I need to approve and sign off any changes to the tenancy. all this sneaky behaviour makes me less inclined to trust them to pay the $25pw that they have promised to pay - especially if there is no legal obligation for them to pay it. Can't really trust them can I?
  7. Awesome stories! Ive got a bird too and despite me disliking clipping flight feathers etc. I found it was safer for non aviary captive birds. A gust of wind got rusty once and sent him up a kauri tree, and then i had to climb up after him as he didn't know how to get back down. Another time another gust of wind sent him 100m down the drive and he sat on the pavement and called out to the neighbourhood cats, "meow, come on, meow". best to get captive birds clipped so they don't get released into the wild, as the tamest ones won't survive a cold winters night. sounds like you have quite the adventurer on your hands, got any pics?
  8. looks like a bumblebee X something. I like it though. very pretty. :bounce:
  9. yeah, that's an indian glass fish. you get them dyed with some funky colours in other countries. unfortunately they are very weak, and usually come in very small and die off any ways.
  10. jansens in glenfield has 2 of them in a tank. they looked very interesting, so maybe you should try checking them out too.
  11. give him a wee nudge and see what he does. it helps to poke him and say " re you awake yet?" *poke "are you awake yet?" *poke "now?", "and now?" *poke, *poke "what about now?"   no seriously don't listen to me, im in one of those moods n ow.
  12. ah yes. the old calm approach. i usually try that, but when people refuse to understand I resort of my way of doing things which involves mental breakdowns for the other party, and lots of shouting for me. I really hope this thing sorts itself out. that cat will have to be outdoors all the time. rusty will have to be safe 24/7 even if it means he is now confined to my room only, unless i am there to let him out and i have to stop being allergic to cats.
  13. yes yes. i like these ideas. Im certain i know a few cat recipes too. I don't want them to get rid of the cat. i just don't want it endanger rusty's life and get me all itchy and scratchy and red eyed and stuff. yea man. its a good thing cats are faster than pit bulls and can climb trees. i will consider it if the cat is a majopr pain, or if it looks at rusty and prowls.
  14. Ling told me that i had to sort out the cat with the current flatmates. looks like i will have a lot to sort out when i get back
  15. 59 wpm on my comfy keyboard and 97% accuracy.
  16. LOL. yes Ill be sure to do that. its a good thing I can get me some ultrasonic sound emmiter things. pitbulls next door tend to help keep the cats away too. that and lots of squirt bottles, filled with sour grapes (pet repellent) and water.
  17. that would depend if the flowers are male or female I'd say. they will be twins
  18. rubbish! LOL I have heaps of the submersed variety. will wait for it to grow properly. easy to grow too
  19. ok so. i met this girl as she went through the house to see it. she seemed nice, but there was no mention of cats. I tolde her I have fish and the bird, and she saw the fish. turns out she is moving in with her boyfriend which is perfect for that massive room with the walk in wardrobe and private ensuite. then yesterday i got told on gmail chat that they have a cat, but have already signed the agreement and their names are now on the agreement. *angry me. I like the people, im against the cat and that i will fight for. the landlord is ok with 1 cat in the house, always has been - but i am not as i can't deal with cat fur and saliva etc on some cats. landlord just wanted to meet the new people which she has. i mean the girl i met seemed nice but then again i only spoke to her for 3 minutes max. the 2 flatmates that are moving out are causing me a lot of anger. the new cat has got to be outdoors. don't like any cats on the property - the bird was there first and he gets free range of the house, not some silly cat that will make me sniffle and not breathe properly and ich all over  fact is I have to sign the new tenancy agreeement as well, which I will not if worst comes to worse. the last person they want to upset is me, and they are not doing a good job so far.
  20. yeah, thing is I like cats. hell - I have two cats here in auckland  but I am violently allergic to one of them, and the second one is ok with me. but even when rust was here in AKL with me last time, I did not leave the cats with the bird unsupervised (even though they both looked sligtly scared of a bird that wanted to play with them). so if I don't get my own cats to palmy why should someone else get their cat in my house in palmy? especially after i said NO cats please; Im allergic. the 2 flatmates kept it hidden as the guy said, yeah that's fine there are no cats. now that im not there to see what is going on - there suddenly is a cat after the paper work has been done. no more mr. nice, understanding guy from me.
  21. I can get plants for people in palmy etc. but its nothing i can't order in myself. I just liked the quality of what I saw. I didn't ask for prices, so maybe they are expensive as. Hope you guys have a great meeting. won't be as much fun wothout me  but LOL it should be fun swapping things!
  22. can't believe i haven't commented so far! Nice selection of plants! :bounce: last pic, front RHS- is that apo. crispus or a crypt of some sort? I see a lot of that in auckland.
