not sure if you can see the blue rams. but im sure there were blue rams in there. lots of bolivian rams. the square thing was a little project i undertook, so see if cheap tanks could really be done. the lights were cheap, the gravel was without any ferts, the plants were cheap, and no ferts used at all. I try to get more people to get planted tanks that way - doesn't always have to be hard to plant out a tank. Rusty Ruu is indeed a hybrid, lol... half rainbow, half red collar lorikeet. so he is slightly larger and a lot fatter. :lol: and he has little chicken legs :lol: they are so cute, they are all fat and puffy ha ha. PS- I figured P squared sounded better than PP

they are most nutritious within 24 hours of hatching, after that they consume the yolk. you sure can freeze them. i withdraw some in a syringe and then freeze the syringe. remember to leave some space in the syringe for the anomalous expansion of water.

erm.. i got the crypts off amy in wellington (dave&amy on here), the pygmy chain sword of vinson massif, tiger lotus from someone on here selling it at the time - i forget who, indian fern off someone in auckland. the other plants, i ordered in through animates here, as i can order them in and take the ones I like just bear in mind, that most plants with the exception of the rotala's are grown emersed, unless otherwise stated, so youhave to wait for them to re grow submersed. eg- the sag. subulata comes only about 4 cm high and in small bunches, but in a few months it was more than 40 - 50 cm high in some places, and spreads like wild fire. ps- i never gravel vacced the substrate, so that helped too.

they ALL worked well except for java fern and java moss. my favourites were anubias hastifolia, the crypt wendtii red, and the tiger lotus. sag. subulata went mental in my tank and I landed up removing and selling about 12kg of it on here. Ih hoping that I can buy some back if i get another tank next year... when i get another tank next year.. :lol: indian fern and red ludwigia grew really well and had to be thrown out every week. i even had some pygmy chain sword that grew well but got hidden under the subulata. When i put rotala in the tank, i had to remove it, as it grew so fast that i had to take of about 7-8 cms off the top every other day.

:lol: i sure did. miss the plants, so ive packed it with some not so common types of java fern. fingers crossed they survive, ive never been able to grow it, and if i kill the rare ferns i am sure to be killed. ill send you a pic when i get my camera back.

were growing. i sold the whole lot. except for the rare plants, which are stored away safely until i need them back. see: flower stimulus and this tank, used 2x24W dull pink plant pros, no ferts, nothing fancy. just proves it can be done - just need to choose the right plants:

2x 4ft 18000K T5 HO's ~$330+ 54Wx2 - bear in mind these are HO's so blindingly bright. 1x 4ft marine blue (low intensity) ~$40 - only comes on when i need to make plants flower - and to show off my dems lol 1x 4ft plant gro 6500K dull pink ~$60 - makes plants nice and happy. and 2x 2ft T5 HO 18000K on standby, currently used as a study lamp :lol:

in that case, go to mitre ten and get some normal daylight tubes for about $5. 4 tubes is 20bucks. keep the extra 30 and either save it or buy some plants!

how much money are you willing to spend on 4 tubes?

go to whereever you bought the tank from and get a new one. I got Mel's powerhead replaced on the spot.
