  1. ah. so what ive done now is signed up to PC, and will soon post these pics there, and see what they have to make of it. Ill link to these forums and another so they get the gist of what's going on hahaha.
  2. a pic truly says a thousand words. its funny how the fish on PC differ to what we have here in NZ. so seeing what you have opened my eyes. no wonder people have so many issues IDing plecos and the like. ill feed these fellas up well and keep posting pics of them from time to time. now that they have been in the tank and are eating well their colours have changed slightly but over time that may change too. L271's aren't terribly common here in NZ are they?
  3. it should be dead easy to make small dividers. you need plastic grates, and silicone or araldite; and the ability to measure and cut plastic. then you can make little boxes for each fighter to stay in. alternatively, get some normal plastic sheets, and create dividers in a tank and hold them up with suction cups.
  4. oh LOL. so now you are wanting to use brew your own CO2, or do you have a co2 bottle with solenoid etc? I used to run DIY CO2 through my external filter, and had great results.
  5. I thought you were going to add soda water to your tank?
  6. thanks for all the great advice everyone! these fellas love courgette skins! and have plenty wood to help with digestion. They will be fed on hikari and tetra tabs which have wood in them also. the more I look at theses fish the more im inclined to say they are both L226's. the resemblance is uncanny. this pic if of planet catfish: also have a look at this pic (cant post on here as its too big) http://www.planetcatfish.com/images/ful ... ngae/3.jpg
  7. im presuming there is more than 1 gene pool for these fellas in NZ?
  8. they are very good for algae eating. I even tested it out. I took a piece of glass and let it sit on a rock for about 11 days, and algae grew on the glass and rock, and the fish could not get to it. then today afternoon I took the glass piece out exposing the algae. here are the results. Before: About 2 hours later:
  9. will you be taking muppet? or does he not like crowds?

    Tank Setup

is it a powerglo tube? if so it is 18000K - great for plants - i use them in the t5 HO form. if its a dull pink its plant gro.
  12. oh. if the promo is still running, you get it with an air pump. southerrrrrrrrrrn girl (i forget how many rrr's  ): i did find one small issue (if at all) with the juwels. as i put the gravel in, i noticed there was a small gap underneath its internal filter. That could mean that debris could get stuck there, so will need to be siphoned well around that area.
  13. the one above? I dunno - but what i do know is that my plants are not for sale hahahahahaa
  14. here you go. its not flash, and doesn't look great, but I only set it up yesterday in about 2 hours. In about a month it should look nice and well planted.
  15. i could talk about filters, products, chemicals and chemistry, hardware - what tanks are better than others and why.... plants!! i could talk about landscaping a tank all day, and teach people how to set up different plant zones and layers in their tanks and the substrates that you can get cheaply.
  16. ouch. did you push the cow back?
  17. what open door or window? flatmates have been informed that house is to be in lockdown as far as the cat is concerned. cat door already has tape on it. my room is secure, no way to get in unless the door is left open, but i never leave it open.
  18. what, a real one? where?
  19. yeah i knew about Pasturella but wasn't too concerned as it is very very sensitive to oxytetracycline, which i should have in ointment form, and should also have penicillin in tablet form (im overly possessive of him, so got meds sorted for him just in case). Thanks for reminding me though, I hadn't really thought about it in this case. but in all honesty I don't like the whole cat and bird situation either, but its comforting to know that the cat can't be in the house so it in theory should be ok.

you must get some crypts. you should be able to get some crypt wendtii brown and green off people on here, but you can order the other types at fishy shops. provided you speak to someone who knows what a crypt is. do tell us what lights you have.
  21. i dunno. he quite likes cats. and the last time he got jumped by one, he tried attacking it back, and got it in the eye but cats were designed to catch and eat birds. Can't mess with mother nature.
  22. actually. i retract that comment. its not a juwel. no filter and no black silicone. what tank is it? (not a blue planet?)
  23. That is a very nice looking tank. I like the levels and the effort that you have put in. PS I like your alexandrine too As for the CO2, i run the same system, but through my external filter so the bubble gets sucked up and then runs through the system better and longer. you should let people know what sort of lighting and/or ferts etc you use. tank looks like a juwel? (180?)
  24. these people move in on the 8th of august. its only for 4 months so a little compromise was in order. its just this is one of those cases where if something happens to rust, i can turn back the clock and say oh i shouldnt have let them move in with the cat (even though the house is off bounds)... and i definitely don't want to have one of those "if only" moments.
  25. nice lg. cute as. when you breeding them?
