  1. do they have any whitish marks like fraying almost on them? (or did you notice that on the bodies?_)
  2. when I get new fish, I usually acclimatise them over half an hour. when i get fish that are rarer, it is common practise to acclimatise them over a few hours. Just as stella said, I too use a bucket, dump the fish in, add water from my tank with a hose, leave them be in there for as long as i can be bothered.
  3. yeah totally! I underestimated how much stuff I had! I shudder to think how much of my stuff is lent out as well. if I get all of it back, then I will have no space at all but now the lounge is really clean. I vacuumed the carpets and everything. Then I cleaned Rusty's enclosure as well.
  4. yes but then things like lighting will be an issue. non standard lights are better. would be better for me if glass tanks were ok. far cheaper too..
  5. It is clean now! I cleaned it myself!!! this is it. made it when I was about 12 I think. basically has 2 wires, a small resistor, a light that comes on when the heater is on (light fused last year), sand disperses the heat evenly. small pebbles keep the sand down. it has no thermostat, but keeps a 160L tank at a constant 27 degrees or so if it has no lid on it. heats 24-7. still works too  it is sealed with tar and then silicone. LOL  funny guy hahahhaha
  6. so. its a bright sunny day and i felt like cleaning. so i decided to clean the stuff under the fish tank. boy was that a bad move. sooo much stuff!!! I removed all the stuff, filters, heaters, pumps, tubes, pipes, breeding stuff, boxes. small handmade heater.... phew... see: Me wallowing in my mess: aaanndd.. Rusty Ruu helping from above:

do I? LOL. you should hear me in real life. I actually quite like the mad scientist bubbly idea thing going on  (not in a sarcastic way - i really do) I think it would look cool too, I would add some dye to the mix to give it another colour.

yes you could. good thinking. only at $80 - $200 for a burette, $10 for a conical flask, and $20 - $30 for all the other bits and pieces needed i still say its better to use yeast, sugar and water hahahaha  oh and then you need the burette stand which is like another $40 - $50 I think.
  16. what about splash, squirt, dusty...
  17. can you add me to the list, cause ive been trying for a yearish now.

you could use sulphuric acid, but then have to deal with the side effects of fumes, dead fish, and a hard to control reaction. or HCl, but my favourite would be Nitric Acid.
  19. yes there are long fins in NZ. they came in a while ago, and im sure people here have bred them. infact i even recall seeing an image of of one on here ages ago. not so commonly available. and no I do not have them
