  1. they do make subtly coloured heaters. the new fluvals cost a bomb but are a mirror, so take up the colour of the surrounding.

  8. naah. smack the badones. teach em manners and good behaviours. teach em to be good to animals, and they will be good to humans. teach em about ethics and social responsibility. teach them it is not OK to take things without asking! teach them how to accept no for an answer, and teach them that winning is not everything.
  9. imagine the look of shock on my face when i walked into my room and rusty was flapping his wings and going in circles hanging from his rope hung on the light on the ceiling all i could hear from my room was "waaaaaa" waaaaa waaa waaaaaa
  10. ive only ever used renas, fluvals and eheim/jagers. jagers are great, but large. fluvals are good to go for about 3-4 years or so some more than that.. my rena lasted about 11 years.

  16. give him a bucket full of water and let him give him self a bath. if that dont work.. well you can give him a manual bath but he probably wont be very appreciative.

  18. That sounds like it could be a lot of fun. I shall bring it up at our gathering, and see who is keen. if the timing is right and wont interfere with my studies then I would love to stay at the nat. aquarium! silly birdface can stay home alone. It would also be good for all of us to meet folks from the hawkes bay and surrounding, and that would expand horizons too. :bounce:

  20. it means it would blow up as nz has 220V mains you can convert it but those transformers are expensive and not worth it. you do get 25W heaters though. elite makes them

  22. fraying is what sometimes happens if the fish were introduced into water that was very different to what they are used to. it usually signifies a drastic change, like from say pH 7 to 55 or so
