  1. I think im missing something too  the syno fry have no more egg sacs which is good, and they have eaten the electra as they are supposed to, so its also good! rite?
  2. That is fantastic news. I am very keen on any updates with regards to this. :bounce:
  3. this is the end of the internet
  4. now where is the fishslap emoticon?
  5. scoria is good but blocks up easy and gives about 250sqm per gallon. Again, that is to be used in a power filter. I guess it depends on the type of tank one has, the stocking, and what the person feels most comfortable with. None of my tanks would survive without a cannister filter or 2 and a copious amount of media. then again, there are those that can stock lightly, do water changes and have an undergravel or similar and be fine. Plants and UG's dont do too well though. Given today's busy lifestyles, where we want to spend more time appreciating tanks, than to sit maintaining them, I think cannister filters and media are a real boon to us. I know I personally would not have any tanks if I did not have cannister filters to go with them.
  6. No. It targets some bacteria, but claims not to kill the filter bacteria. Remove any carbon for the duration of the treatment.
  7. Hi 100*100=10,000 not 100,000 for stats on the substrate pro - http://www.eheimasiapacific.com/prod_e_media_bio.html
  8. It looks like blue green algae / cyanobacteria at first sight. I think a broad spectrum antibiotic is supposed to get rid of it - if my diagnosis is correct. Is it only on the java fern, or is it spreading all over? Remove as much as you can physically before you treat (if you treat).
  9. quality not quantity. eheim pro media has a usable surface area of 450sqm per litre. you aint going to get that sort of area in your tank. and surely you are not accusing me and millions of others around the world (including 000's on this forum) of being consumer suckers?
  10. meh.. its a nice tank. very nice tank. but there is nothing special about it. sorta like everyone is making them. Look at evil_elmos juwel - that did it for me - breath of fresh air.
  11. That makes me happy but you forgot the catfish This makes me sad.
  12. not to mention all those dead spots that are created. I had so many people over the past 4 years complain about tank disasters, as the ammonia spiked. when technology changes, I embrace it. The surface area on the media of todays "technology" is absolutely massive, and would dwarf the available surface area on a tanks base. There are no two ways about that.
  13. No. That would be exactly the same as the ancient Chinese making women wear small shoes to keep their feet small.
  14. Looking at the shape of his head and slant of the forehead I will say - Pterygoplichthys pardalis http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/sp ... cies_id=88 They get big, and fast.
  15. you upload them to photobucket. then copy the "img" code, and paste it here. The size you should use is 640x480 HTH and if you get really confused, email me the pics at [email protected]
  16. sure, but as i said.. we need a pic to ID it.
  17. there's nothing wrong with them... unless you like me, dislike the fact that they breed too fast, eat up all the algae, poop more than they are worth and eat plants. then the trumpets bury themselves. that and they don't do what they are told. No snail like a dead snail.
  18. they are just line bred to what they are now. all come from the same supplier too.
  19. yeah.. I don't think you want to wait for them to grow. once they take over your tank, (and they will take over your tank) its pretty hard getting rid of them cause they sit in your substrate!
