  1. The Auckland Club :dnc1: I'm assuming that Adrienne would have been all over the technical stuff like a Bristle-Nose on an Algae wafer.
  2. I seem to have the same issue, that it asks me for a login and it logs me in, but then I get asked again when I click the members area again.
  3. So what do you think a fair price would be then? Just for the sake of the discussion? Previous comments suggest 25% of the cost of the purchase price of the breeding stock, with a rarity premium, so are you thinking .........
  4. As far as I know twice. The first lot was withdrawn. The second lot are $399
  5. That would be $1,000 total in this example. To use the Zebra's as an example we are now talking about in excess of $10,000 (you would want more than 5 as the imported ones were not sexable.) The cost to get an imported Zebra now is in excess of $1,000 (each) There are some domestic ones around but even at $399.00 there is no-one buying them, so the question regarding how many people is breeding them almost insane. The question is "why is no-one buying them?" One of my points of interest is that if no-one is going to buy the fish, then the breeders won't breed the fish. And as Josh points out the importers are not really importing the expensive stuff as no-one will buy them. Cheers
  6. OK, the price thing is of interest to me. What sort of price is fair? Lets say each of the breeding stock costs $200, and you can't sex them so you need to get a few, say 5 (for a round number). You keep them for 2 or 3 years to grow them to adults, and then you at least know if you have a pair. Then you gotta try and breed them, and lets say that takes another 6 months. You need another tank to seperate the extra males too though. So now they bred, and say you get 20 babies, and you loose say 40% Now you need to keep them for about 6 months before they can be sold. So what is a fair price? (one answer is "whatever someone will pay for them", but thats not the kind of answer I am enquiring about) Cheers
  7. Hi Nav, Good to hear you are still going strong, although 70 tanks is almost showing off :bggrn: The big strippy ones are still a challenge. I think the male has a better income than me, as he seems to be on a perpetual date, with the alpha female. Perhaps he needs to shell out for some quality bubbles or something??? Cheers
  8. :gpo2: (replies another with no current facebook account)
  9. Swimmingly well, thanks David, albeit a tad frustrating. P44, you are a bit quiet these days? I often wonder on the viability of catfish in the NZ hobby, specifically the fancy plec’s. Is it the price? Is it some kind of natural cycle? Is it the post recession thing? What do you folks think.
  10. Auckland Fishkeepers Association - the affiliated club up here has real meetings too, with humans that actually meet in person, its quite an interesting concept.
  11. Hi Faran, Welcome back. I am still trying to breed the L204 I got from you! Cheers Geoff
  12. I was just wondering if there are any catfish enthusiast's left after the recession? Cheers
  13. Indeed, especially since the world didn't end :cr1: I know what I'm wishing for, but common sense is a gift that you can only give to your children. Cheers
  14. From Gerald Bassleer "The new illustrated guide to fish diseases in ornamental tropical and pond fish" 2nd edition 2006: "FishMycobacterium: Fish Tuberculosis - FishMB is usually caused by Mycobacterium fortuitum or Mycobacterium marimun." Then they abbreviate FishMB down to FMB in the bit I was referring to earlier. Previously when I was searching the Internet for Fish TB, I got more hits searching for Fish Mycobacterium. Cheers.
  15. An interesting topic, and well done on the spread sheet. No one has talked about food. Over the last couple of years there has been a proliferation of self imported food. The diagnostic books that I have talk of food as being a cause of FMB disease too. "The most common route of infection is through oral ingestion by eating contaminated food......." A picture is worth a thousand words..... If FMB is suspected get a gram positive antibiotic from your vet.. "Mycobacterium is a gram-positive bacterium and can therefore NOT be treated with most of the anti-bacterial drugs available today...." - Note that I am not saying any of you have FMB. Cheers.

    Fluval FX5

It is entirely possible that the impella is actually damaged. You could try taking all your media trays out and turning it on. If it goes like crazy, then it is something to do with the media etc. if its still poor, then most likely something to do with the impella or motor etc.

    Fluval FX5

There is a media which is in essence the bit that is stamped out of the middle of the noodle ring. That is the only thing I would call a pellet. I think it is the aqua one brand, and comes in one of those square, clear plastic containers. Jaide, what is the height from the top of the filter, to the top of the water, and is there an obstruction in the hose, or a kink where a blockage could occur? My FX5 only slows down when the grill in the bottom of the media trays becomes obstructed.
  18. I dont want to be too contradictory but this was one of the smallest ones. photo taken 17/3/2010
  19. Actually 2 years ago they were $750.00 Now they are $399.00 Cheap. Just not as cheap as the people talking about wanting them
  20. Possibly only every 3 or 4 months. Basically when the flow starts to slow down the the filter pads require cleaning. I have 7 of the fluval x05 filters in total. Never had any issues. Cheers
  21. About 2 feet :dunno:
