  1. I have created two new topics: Current Individuals Pleco Collections AND Discussions on Current Individuals Pleco Collections Mods, perhaps you can unsticky this one and make this one Current Individuals Pleco Collections the new Sticky
  2. Hi All, This post has been created for members to list their "Current Individuals Pleco Collections" The previous topic "Individuals Pleco Collections ..." became a discussion forum and it bacame difficult for members to figure out who had what plecos. This topic, created in May 2012, is intended to represent peoples current Pleco stocking and achievements. It is intended that this post be complimentary to the discussion forum "Discussions on Current Individuals Pleco Collections". Please use the discussion post for your discussions, even if you are just giving the "like" The topic "Discussions on Current Individuals Pleco Collections" can be found here: Discussions on Current Individuals Pleco Collections Suggestions for use: It could be a good idea to keep a standard type of formatting. The old format seemed to work well. This was that format (with a slight modification) Common name: Scientific Name: L number: --Sexing (numbers of) Males : Females : Unknown : --Breeding Successfully bred Y/N : Picture : In addition I think that the topic may work better if members enter a new post for their addidtions / reductions rather than just editing a previous post and that way "scrolling from the bottom" so to say will mean that the first time you come accross a members listings, then that will be the latest listing. Perhaps this is our first discussion?

  4. You are so funny Henward. Picture will only spark up the debate as you need to assume that the identification pictures that you are comparing the subject fish to are in fact correctly identified. I think the topic will be hard to make it not a discussion again. Perhaps we need two topics. One being the collections, and one being the discussion. The first post on the collections should contain a link to the discussion topic and a few words on no discussions here blah blah blah, follow this link for the discussions. and a reminder to subscribe to both topics if you want to follow the discussions.
  5. You can always take some water to your LFS and they will test it for you 8)
  6. I just use black plastic rubbish bags taped to the 3 sides of the tank I don't look through. Seems to preserve the heat quite well?
  7. :slfg: By calibrate the cheepo ones I mean to write on them +x.y where x.y is the amount I need to add or -a.b where a.b is the amount I need to subtract from the reading. Also depends what you need the temp reading for. Usually (except for that big nasty tank) I keep the temp a degree or so under the "tollerance" for the species, so the purpose to me of all the cheepo meters is for when I walk past the tanks I can glance in and as long as the reading isnt way off then I know that the heater isn't stuck full on, or off. Although I got sick of seeing 42C on the display, cause it caused dampness in my pants if you know what I mean which is why I have abandoned the digital ones, and gone for the new (old) ones that look more like a traditional thermometer, for that purpose. The fancy gadget is a "Hanna Instruments HI 98129 Waterproof pH/Conductivity/TDS Tester" which I got off amazon. The pH is at least as accurate as my blue lab device and respondes at least twice as fast, and the temp looks as accurate as my alcohol thermometer (given that the alcohol meter doesn't have a digital output). Have not done a tds comparison yet.
  8. The cheepo digital ones are cr@p. I buy 5 or so at a time, and can get 10 degrees difference between the warmest and coolest, when measuring the same water. So I have an alcohol based one that I use as my standard and then calibrate each of the digitals, against. But the brand I was using has changed their design and now if they were only cr@p I would be happy. So I got an expensive gadget, which seems accurate enough. One of my tanks runs at 32, so when I say accurate enough, I mean accurate enough! Because this may be real close to boiled fish.
  9. Aren't the real ones 'black with a purple head'? They cost around $100 Cheers
  10. I only got the furminator because I got offered a 100% money back guarantee if it didn't do everything that they claimed it did, cause its quite a bit of coin for a 'brush'. If it only came with someone to pick up all the fur then it would be the perfect tool. It was the real thing and may be the best 'creature gizmo' that I have ever purchased.
  11. I still give 1/2 a zucchini per fish once a week......
  12. "big polka dot"......... Do I know that fish? If so he used to eat zucchini I always peel my kumera, and only feed the gold one.

    Id please

Sometimes you can come across 'cleaner' bloodlines which have less / no blotches. Some of my parents produce really defined offspring, and some produce the more blotchy type. These look like just nice clean bristlenose to me. Cheers
  14. Thanks, I just wasnt sure of the "correctness" of doing that. Cheers
  15. I'm not sure why you would "assume on the small chance that they're also on the fishroom that they use the same name?" I assume I thought the title of the post "does anyone know cheveyhot off trade me?" was a good indicator of the issue at hand. Cheers
  16. This is going to be fun........... :happy1: :happy1: :happy1: Just to make myself clear. We are trying to do a members search of the FNZAS site yes? Because I know that thats what I'm trying to do. Searching trade me  gives me nothing special in the area of contacting them, except to leave a message on a different auction. Your valiant attempts to give me instructions seem to fail greatly for the following reasons: 1: there are no left hand drop down box's in the FNZAS search. neither the forum search or the general search. 2: There is no "all items" on the FNZAS home page 3: the link to trade me is giving me a hint that we may be comparing apples and geospatial modelling of 5th dimensional theoretical partical matter :dunno: I just thought that someone with a 15cm LDA33 and a large L018 may be known to forum members, thats all. But this has proved amusing for a Thursday :slfg:
  17. Never figured out how to search for members, and can't find it now :sml1:
  18. Hi, does anyone know this trader? I just wanted to let them know that the LDA 33 they had on trademe is a male, and only half grown, and their gold nugget is also a male and that is why they are not getting along. But the auction closed before I could put that info on as a question. Cheers --Edit, fixed the spelling in the title
  19. Nice footprint for 6-8 mixed species small wood munchers, say 2-3 L204 and 2-3 L002, and a few P.maccus. You could get more in there with plenty of cover, but the more you have the more maintenance you have. I would be doing a 30% water change per week, with the numbers I mentioned above. Note the fish I have mentioned above won't outgrow this tank, where a bigger panaque, would be cool for a feature fish as a small one, it would possibly outgrow this tank.
  20. which is not really a good thing, and there are many posts on this subject, so just stating this rather than hijacking your topic. I find that providing cover, without providing breeding caves reduces aggression with a mixed species tank. A stroppy plec, even a small one, can very quickly kill and mame other similar sized plecs. Which is fascinating to watch :spop: until you realise what is actually happening  .
  21. The eggs have all gone today, and the male was out of the cave. Hopefully they will do better next time. Cheers
  22. yes the blue / black ones. L255 are the spotted ones.
  23. Cheers 48 hours and he is still on the eggs. So holding up well for a first time dad.
