  1. Hi Manmeet Snails can be very difficult to get rid of because they lay eggs absolutely everywhere! When they get overwhelming it is generally a sign of overfeeding as there population tends to mimic food availability! I have snails in my tanks and don't mind them but if I want to get rid of some, I will put a slice or 2 of courgette into the tank overnight (held down with a teaspoon through it) In the morning snails will be all over the courgette so they are nice and easy to take out!
  2. exactly what Living Art said! Find your rental agreement for anything regarding storing stuff in the garage, if there's nothing, call te landlord to discuss/clarify exactly what he wants you to do and why. If its definately not in the agreement but he still wants you tidying stuff, escalate to the tribunal!
  3. Hi, I work for an international freight forwarding company so have to deal with MAF & Customs everyday so I can completely sympathize with your frustrations. When it comes to getting something cleared through customs & MAF it is often worth the extra dollars to have a broker do this as they often know "the right people" and can speed up MAF clearance.

    HRV

Cool Tiny! I also opted to get it installed, but neglected to add an update as to how its going!!! Its been in for a little under a week, and the condensation on the windows is almost at zero all day but we still get some in the kitchen whilst cooking! Some doors that seem to swell and not close fully now close nice and cleanly and we have put that down to the HRV system. Although there is no heater in the system, we haven't needed one and haven't had one going since it was installed. On top of all that, my personal experience with the service was brilliant.

Nice Pics Fishoe! The light looks like sunlight coming through!
  10. I've visited Barrie a couple of times now, and he is always so freindly and helpful! Plus he has some gorgeous fish!
  11. HFF in Albany and Bird Barn on lincoln road are 2 of my favourites (Love the school of clown loaches at BB). I often do my shopping at HFF Roskill as they are generally pretty good to.
  12. You wouldn't have to ask twice My parents live in Fielding and visiting all the fish stores in that part of the country is always a highlight of my visit.
  13. I havent been given incorrect information, theres nothing wrong with asking a colleague if you don't know something. being ignored is a completely different kettle of... fish?
  14. I accept that knowledge must be learnt and everyone must start somewhere, but ignorance is no excuse. I can be exceptionally patient if I feel I am valued, but its a two way street.
  15. Visited the Mt Roskill store today and bought a jager heater. 3 staff in the store and I was the only customer, actually had to tap a staff member on the shoulder to get some assistance, if you can call it assistance. I was treated like a minor inconvenience as opposed to a paying customer which I found very odd. I have never had any problems here before but felt exceptionally out of place today.
  16. Definately the BN, never fails to suprise me the amount of excrement my Plec (affectionately known as spot) can produce!
  17. you have some inside goss?

    HRV

Hi TinyTawny Had the HRV rep over last night, and have spoken to the heatpump people today. It sounds odd, but Mitsubishi seemed to recommend getting an HRV system as opposed to one of there heatpumps and offered to send someone round, so I guess they have an "HRV" equivalent as well. Your house sounds almost identical to mine, the floor area and number of bedrooms is exactly the same, and I also have that awful black mould that you need to keep wiping off. I asked the rep (was the NZ sales manager) about heating, and he said that generally speaking, HRV do not market heaters north of Hamilton, as the heating is not often needed. You can add a heating unit to the HRV system post-installation so I will see how it goes without one (provided this is the choice we make). My main concern is getting the humidity and condensation down, and its almost a given that this will accomplish that, in my eyes, any additional heat/comfort I get will be a bonus. Will let you all know how I get on. Oh - Tiny, the reps offer a "buy now" price, so it would pay to have your mind 90% made up before they come around (Wish I had known that before I saw him!!!)
  20. Maybe we should organise a mass calling and asking of Cabomba. They will get so sick of us all calling they'll decide to sell some cuttings just to shut us up!
  21. They won't sell it to me either

    HRV

Hi All, Has anybody had an HRV system (or similar) installed? I have quite a damp home and the windows have a considerable amount of condensation on them in the mornings and throughout the day if not opened - I am guessing having a large open top aquarium in the living room certainly won't help matters!!!! Sooo.... I am looking at getting an HRV system. I have read plenty of reviews that say this is the way to go, but alot have also mentioned something called intellivent, but I cant find any company information/contacts for these guys. I would like to know: A) What system you have and what you think of it B) Any ideas on the cost of the unit+installation for a 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom & Living room house.

    whiptails/twigs

Hi, I am looking to purchase some whiptail catfish in about a month once my new tank is all setup and cycled. I have had a look in both HFF and animates but cannot find more than 2-3 whiptails at each store. I will be wanting to get about 5, but am obviously looking in the wrong places. Also - I know what the ones I want look like but don't know what they are called and can't find any pictures Is there a list of what is available in NZ? Thankyou in advance!
