  1. Those fish look amazing!.........
  2. Thanks Ian. I don't think I explained myself very well! I take the waste from one tank and chuck it into the one I am cycling. Had never done it before but it worked ok.
  3. I Work out near the Airport as a freightforwarder. For those that aren't sure what that is, I arrange the import/export and customs clearance for companies importing and exporting goods.
  4. I Cycled my most recent tank a little differently. Whenever I completed a water change from the aquarium with my plec, I would add the removed water to the tank I was cycling (Mr. Plec, affectionately known as Spot, tends to generate more waste than I do!) The water had all of Spots waste and seemed to work well. Has anyone else tried doing it this way?
  5. I use JBL Balls and find they work brilliantly.
  6. Ressies won 4-1 today, woohooo!!!! don't mean to pollute the forum! If anyone has any association to the club speak up!
  7. Hi Henward, I made the mistake of putting some Borneos with my angels when I first started fishkeeping I think they are beautiful fish, but unfortunately cannot keep any until I increase the decor! Would love to see some photos!

    Top 10

And where do you get these plants? I only ever see the more common ones on trademe and the lfs.
  9. Good way of putting it, I wish I could afford to eat all day
  10. OK - They must be eating something as some of them are laying little baby turds
  11. I Guess they could be eating the worms with me just not noticing! (But as they are the first successful hatchings I have been spending far to much time watching them!) On a slightly different note, Angels make such good parents! sucking them up and spittin them out if they stray to far from the herd.
  12. Hi All, I have some angelfish fry 1 week and 1 day old! I have been feeding them Liquifry and have some microworms (Thanks again Barry). The microworms are a tab to big for them to eat at the moment and I haven't seen them eating anything from the liquifry. Can anybody suggest/point me in the right direction on some food for young angelfish fry that are to small to chow down on micro's!!

    MicroWorms

HEHE. The only live food they get is there own eggs! Can just picture them coming out then going back in again, then being respawned.

    MicroWorms

A Guess! Its only the 5th spawn, but her belly has always been the same size beforehand and it has been 12 days between the 1st 4. They always eat them though

    MicroWorms

Hi All, I would like to start culturing some microworm, I have seen how to do this etc, what my question is... Is there anywhere in West Auckland that I can get some of these microworms to start my culture?
  17. Hi Guys, Before I advertise on trademe... Does anyone know of someone looking for a place to stay in Glen Eden? 1 room available in a 3 bedroom stand alone house O/S parking to share with 3 others (all working) NZ$140.00 per week for everything except food. We have internet, Sky TV etc etc.
  18. So T5 lighting should suffice? I worry that I won't get enough light to grow all the plants I want to. The plan is to get CO2 injection in the future, a proper planted setup ie laterite - possibly undergravel heating (if this is neccessary in NZ). Just don't want to hamstring myself on the lights. If I was to get 4 T5 lights, It would probably work out at about the same as metal halides?
  19. Awesome! Next question - I like the sound of the Halides, and have also read nothing but good things regarding them. Would I be right in assuming that they would be better than T5's? Whereabouts would I find the reflector thingies for them?
  20. What are metal halide lights? I know the difference between T5 & T8 Bulbs but thats about all. Also - Can anybody suggest good lighting for a 120 x 60 x 60 planted tank? and where I can purchase.
  21. Hi Ducati, I could be completely off-target with this (I'm a fnzas newb) but the benefits of a canister filter are: They are out of sight. Can more often than not maintain a larger aquarium than other filters. You have a lot of control as to how you want the filter to work/what you want it to do etc with the different things you put in the canister. (Chemical, Physical & Biological).
  22. Will Do! Thanks for the help! Really got a lil worried last night when I noticed as everything had been going just right and I hadnt changed anything.
  23. I replaced 1 tube about 3 weeks ago and the other about 1 month before that. I am wondering if there are to many nutrients in the tank?
  24. There is great water circulation in the tank, but I will definately change the water more frequently. At present, I change about 1/4 every week. Will more water changes stop that nasty algae?
  25. Hi, Last night I noticed a couple of spots in my aquarium where a horrible blue-grey, threadlike algae has started growing. I have had this in the past and it was a nightmare - overran the whole tank and I had to start from scratch. I was hoping someone could advise a nice looking, fast growing plant that I could plant to help prevent this? I have cabomba, but everything else is relatively slow growing.
