Nah, it's all in the fishkeeping !
  2. I gave Radiohead $5 for the last album
  3. Hah, I'm going to change my name to Doug just so I can use that one. Getting the accent just right will be hard
  4. My rubbish bin is gone
  5. Yep, you want to have up-to-date anti-virus software. Avast is a good free one - it has a specific P2P filter (point to point - as in bittorrent) and has kept my PC safe for a few years now. Make sure you keep your virus definitions up-to-date, out of date AV software is worthless. Avast does daily automatic updates by default, but turn the annoying "Virus database has been updated" sound effect off You should also have a firewall of some sort, the built in Windows firewall is OK, if somewhat blunt. PM me if you need a hand with anything! Now for a rant The sooner the music industry moves away from the big business telling us what to listen to model, and taking most of the profit, the better, as far as I'm concerned. This following is a post from Slashdot today - it's Dizzy Rascal's production manager explaining how people 'pirating' music has worked out very well for Dizzy. "Please excuse the rant, one of my disparate jobs is that I am Dizzee Rascal's production manager. For those of you who aren't familiar with him, he is a UK hip-hop star whose most recent release is presently at No.1 in the singles charts, where it has been since its release at the beginning of the month. We entered the charts on download sales alone (physical unit sales are dead). It is fair to assume that a trend in retail purchases of media will be shadowed by a similar trend in illegal downloading of the same media. It is accurate to say that, so far this month, more people in the UK are buying Dizzee's record than any other. Therefore I can infer that there are a significant number of illegal downloads of the song taking place - it's not unreasonable to suggest perhaps more than any other chart single. Dizzee is a self-made artist by anyone's definition. He has not had major label backing at any point in his career and this release is on his own label (Dirtee Stank Recordings). He is creating wealth, jobs, tax revenue and all the other things beloved of the government when making speeches about "small British businesses". He is also the most visible UK artist in the hip-hop genre, traditionally highly US-centric, raising the profile of British music around the world. How much would we see of this "immunity to prosecution" levy? NOT ONE PENNY. That's right, the proposed measures would do nothing for a British citizen, running a British business (no fancy off-shored tax evasion here), with the Number 1 record in the UK this summer. We're not part of the cabal whom these measures would benefit. Why should anyone trust a major label to do the right thing by the artists when they've been screwing them for 93.5% of their revenue for years. I believe we have demonstrated that a label is not required to build an artist from scratch - this is not Radiohead or NIN turning on their labels and capitalising on pre-existing brand awareness - Dizzee came from nowhere, and if you have heard of him it is because he works so damn hard. Everyone on this forum recognises the naivety of any claim to end file-sharing. In fact this kind of agreement is more likely to "stamp-out" our successful business. If I authorise our fans to seed torrents of show bootlegs, or recruit them to promote up-coming artists from the label by sharing album previews on P2P networks, am I placing them at risk of punitive measures from their ISPs, or potential criminal prosecution? Perhaps the only safe thing to do is leave USB sticks in club toilets. No doubt soon this will also be targeted by labels as a promotion channel outside their control that can lead to independent artists mucking with projected chart positions. Yes, we kept McFly off the top spot this week. Yes, somebody may lose their job over it - that's the way major labels work when you don't meet expectations. No, I'm not sorry. We learned our lesson years ago, after being flown first class to Argentina, being put up in 5-Star hotels with a few days each side of the show to see the country, going on stage in front of 30,000 people who knew the words to all the songs, and coming home with money in our pockets. We don't have distribution in Argentina. We have never sold a copy of any of Dizzee's albums in Argentina, as the records aren't available (excusing imports, which we don't see the markup on). That's a lot of downloads. I suppose we should display our gratitude by suing the Argentinians. Of course, we don't spend our time suing anyone - we spend it uploading everything to YouTube [youtube.com], to save you from having to share it yourselves!"
  6. Download UTorrent to use as as a torrent client, then search on http://btJunkie.org Of course you have to makes sure the torrents you download are free, as some unscrupulous people release copyrighted material...
  7. Well, they fry are growing nicely. I finally managed to corral the wily one who evaded me for a week. I didn't want it growing up a socially maladjusted loner Is it OK to keep them in the same tank as mum and dad? I presume they have no objections to shagging the family - will this lead to genetic problems in later generations?
  8. Great pics Vindy, isn't digital great - you just trash the 95% that comes out as a blur You tank looks cool with the light spilling onto the walls behind it :bounce:
  9. I've got 9 Tiger Barbs in with heaps of other fish (list at end) and they've never been a problem. They occasionally have lip-locking spats or go tearing up and down the tank chasing each other, but usually they get on fine and they've never hassled any other species. Community = 9 tiger barbs, 10 black neon tetras, 2 siamese algae eaters, 1 golden gourami, 1 bala shark, 4 bolivian butterflies, 1 bristle-nosed plecco, 6 platies, 18 emerald eye rasboras.
  10. I've found you have to keep Tiger Barb numbers up, then they fight/play amongst themselves. 5 or more is good, any less and they get a bit aggro.
  11. Just got sent this one, some evil genius has devised a totally disorientating game show (yep, slow day at work) http://nz.youtube.com/watch?v=L2bTwSfWtsE
  12. Awesome news, glad to hear it's operable Good luck for the surgery. Yeah, Rex does look similar to Domo. I like Vince the best, something about the teeth and they way his eyes are different sizes, and usually looking in different directions
  13. I like that lots! What's growing on the wood?

Wow, those Rams look awesome! Did you have the flash on?
  15. Yep, the ubiquitous Domo-kun Any news on your kitty?
  16. I stumbled onto this the other day, for some reason it makes me laugh like a loon. Just wondering what's the funniest thing you've found on the internets lately? http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x12565 ... -fame-game
  17. Good luck for tomorrow. My 14 yr old cat just recovered from the flu. It was touch and go for a few days, but he's on the mend now. Really made me aware how much I'd miss him. Anyway, I hope it works out for the best, ++ Karma to you and your puss.

Yeah, I have a bad case of camera envy now :-? Hayley was shooting with a Canon EOS-450D That was all full auto with no tripod, I'd hate to think how good manual settings with a tripod would be

    New Pics

A friend came round to try out her new DSLR high-snoot camera. She got some nice pics of my Butterflies, the BN Plec and Bruce the Bala. Thanks Hayley
  20. He keeps trying to school with my Gourami, who's taken to hiding in the plants at the bottom of the tank. I don't want to get more Balas, so I'd rather find a home for him with a few of his own kind so he's happy, and get a couple more Gouramii so that fish is happy too - just trying to get a balanced, happy community tank
  21. It's my 440L community tank, so there's 9 tiger barbs, 9 black neon tetra, 2 siamese algae eaters, 1 golden gourami, 1 bala shark, 4 bolivian butterflies, 1 bristle-nosed plecco and 12 emerald eye rasboras Bruce the Bala is about to be donated to the LFS, I'll see how it looks after that, but I might get a couple more Golden Gourami. I'm going to trade the plecco for something more plant friendly, probably a couple of Ottos. You can see the Java Moss top left in this pic, that's where I found the Plattie fry - I found two more last night, for a grand total of ten. I wonder how many got eaten?
  22. Went back in today and there were heaps of Bolivians, I must have missed them somehow... So I got my second female, well I think it's a female - kinda hard to tell when they are young, but we think it's a she. Thanks again.
  23. Thanks - yeah, I'm doing the same I'm quite surprised at how charming they are! Cool, they're in a tupperware container floating in the community tank, so I just push the edge down and flood it a few times a day. I'll have to vacuum the bottom - it's mostly detritus that came with the Riccia, but there's a bit of flake food. I'll do the vacuum daily. Mum is a Red, looks like dad was a Wagtail - the fry all appear to have Wagtail colouring. Must be a dominant gene? Thanks for the Barb info. I'm hoping my new female Bolivian Butterfly will be the next to go forth and multiply, but I'm picking it'll be the Platties again before her...
  24. Man, reading your list reminded me of some favs I haven't listened to in ages - QotSA and the Dandy W's. I'm getting so much given to me these days, it's hard to keep up - I've got gigs of stuff I haven't even listened to yet. Have you seen that docco on the Dandys and the Brian Jonestown Massacre, it's called Dig! ? It's a must see if you like the Dandys... Saw QotSA at the Big Day Out a couple of years ago, they were awesome. Same with Muse the year before last... Just getting into Death Cab for Cutie - Narrow Stairs is a great album, IMHO...
  25. Here's a pic of the little guys in their temporary home
