  1. I've moved a half empty tank, but that's just how I saw it
  2. Yep, Giant Reign 2 over here. I try to get over to Vegas every other weekend in summer/autumn/spring, stay at the Blue Lakes camp ground. Hamilton has the Poo-kete MTB track, plus a few trails around the river, but I prefer Vegas...
  3. A few weeks ago I got grabbed by a random chick, who was going up the stairs as we were going down them, on the way out of a club. "I really like your hair" lol, I was wearing a cap Some people should be kept away from recreational chemicals...
  4. I found a foolproof method. Wait and see who spawns - my newest female just deposited a clutch of 'em She's still small, so it's funny watching her boss my large Bala around. I have the feeling I've got three females and one male, not the 50-50 split I was aiming for. Off to the fabric and hobby shops tomorrow. I plan to build a tank divider out of fine netting and plastic rods, to let the parents raise 'em in peace and quiet. Thankfully the rocks the Bolivians like to spawn on in my tank are down one end, so I only have to isolate about 15% of the tank. Not to scale, lol
  5. Is it hot in here, or is it just you? or Don't worry about the missing teeth, there's more room for your tounge
  6. Bugger. Oh well, I'll wall off a section of tank with a course net, and put the fry net in there.
  7. Can anyone confirm that fry nets are/aren't safe in a community tank? The only thing I can think of is other fish sucking them through the net.
  8. Waah, most of the fry I transferred to the breeding container are gone! Are these things not safe to use in a community tank? Did I transfer them too soon? http://www.sera.de/index.php?id=491&L=1 The fry I left with the parents are OK, but how to I get food to them?
  9. Only if you keep them in schools of five or less, in my experience.
  10. Yep, I've been googling about, and apparently the dorsal and caudal fin extensions are longer on the males - that's consistent with what I see in my pair... The fist photo I posted was the male. Dad and kids Mum Happy family
  11. I've just transferred about two thirds of my Bolivian fry into a fry net. I'll try to get the rest later on tonight. I felt bad for mum and dad, who fought me all the way I'm just wondering what sort of survival rate I should expect for the fry? Also, should I put some Riccia into the net to give them some cover? If anyone has any tips on raising these guys I'd appreciate it Here's dad with the kids. -Simon
  12. Yeah, me too The path looked amazing So sorry things have ended up this way, + karma to you both...
  13. Yay, one of my Bolivian Rams is guarding a clutch of eggs - fingers and fins crossed
  14. So is it Platies or Platys, or even Platy, for more than one Platy???
  15. You're so cute, baby seals and puppies send each other postcards of you
  16. Platies. As a friend recently observed, just add water
  17. I prune each leaf/stalk as close to the base as possible. If you cut it only part way down, the remainder just decomposes, I find. They seem to keep sprouting new leaves from the base. I get little nodules that form a bulb and small leaves. I can break them off and they grow into new plants when planted.
  18. Well, you kinda had to go for that, with your avatar and all...
  19. The Big Lebowski. Although, I knew I was going to love Pulp Fiction as soon as the opening credits started with that awesome music - and I was right!
  20. It's not sodium chloride - salt, it's this stuff: http://www.aquaristikshop.com/e_Produkt ... l-salt.htm cos the water here is so soft. Wow, nice tank - you must be happy how it's worked out
  21. How many Tiger Barbs do you have? I found that any less than five and they got nippy, five or more and they are fine and great for mid-whole tank. edit: just saw above, you've got six. Do your males go a little metallic green when they are tearing up and down the tank?
  22. What sort of substrate are you using? I'm using Seachem Flourish and Excel, and fert tabs occasionally for the root feeders. I also add Sera Mineral Salt at water changes. Although it's for the soft, acidic Ham water, the plants consume the minerals too so I guess it's kinda a fert as well.
