  1. plenty of choices for a skimmer there will have to watch the height for getting the collection cup off . perhaps one of these reasonably priced and getting good reviews http://deepblueaquarium.co.nz//product_ ... 28cn1apt67 if youve got more money to burn go with a deltec even second hand , i would tend to avoid brands like aqua one and dymax and cheap weipro/boyu skimmers they are cheap for a reason
  2. this is my workmates silvia http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-ca ... 285008.htm he took me for a spin in it , skids wheels in 4th gear
  3. http://www.thewarehouse.co.nz/red/catal ... KU=1429317 would be a good tank imo if you spent at least double that on a decent filter and upgrading the lights
  4. with the fish royal gramma have been known to eat shrimp sometimes, spot on about the dragonet you will want heaps of live rock to support pods also also gobys may fight each other but someone with more experience may know more on this and wether the two species you picked would be ok. more than likely you will get brittle stars with liverock as a hitchhiker
  5. fay on here has key lights over a large reef they appear to be working well for her perhaps she can tell you more about the lighting controls moonlight etc
  6. you could make up panels of batts and polystyrene cutting strips of poly the thickness of the batts and gluing it to sheets of poly like a joist in a wall Ive read on here its best to cover the poly with polythene sheeting so it cant get moisture into it . you could use clear if you didnt like the black . as for the window if your not going to use it for the heat pump just cover it up with batts and poly
  7. i mainly use here nzmas.co.nz, reefreflections.co.nz nano-reef.com mfk is def worth a look too just to see some of the over the top builds
  8. you get fc2 and rs7 type in 150wMHDE they type pictured and the most common is rs7 if you are unsure of the k rating just get cheap bulbs off ebay theres plenty out there suitable for ahh hmm "plant" growth as for the actinics they will be benefical to plants and may balance the pinky or yellowy light of a hort bulb out to a nicer white to look at
  9. spoon

    What am I?

first one looks like plankton from spongebob
  10. yep lots of people use the selleys stuff me included
  11. the aqua one seem to be junk i have a nac6 bm it works good as
  12. you dont really use it like glue its more for locking the rock together you have to squeeze it into a crevice on each rock so when its set they are locked together rather than using it like glue or silicone. can be difficult to do you can also yse selleys aqua knead-it it sets white and will be covered in coralline in no time
  13. i assemble hydraulic cylinders for underground mining equipment, quick hitch attachments on cat diggers, seed drills, forestry equipment and luxury superyachts to name a few industries
  14. im using the marine pellets find it to be really good , and reasonable pricing on its range better than jbl, tetra and hikari marine s
  15. dont worry about the heat you are in invercargill :rotf: . if theres too much light lift them up a bit ( if hanging them) will be mean on a planted tank you will love the shimmer lines . mount it at least a foot off the water level or any glass lids in case it gets warm down there :digH: . the glass covering the bulbs is just ordinary toughened glass dichroic would be nice never seen it on a mh though
  16. our tiny tree complete with lights stupid photo bucket wouldnt let me rotate the photo without crashing
  17. i dont know what you have available locally but that cylinder could be welded up and tested for a fraction of the cost of replacing it
  18. cant say id ever wear a pink shirt or any colour remotely resembling pink. dont really know why but find the colour disturbing on clothes wether it be me or someone else , male or female and pale pink is twice as gross as hot pink :sml1:
  19. i seriously misread the title also and didnt notice it was in the catfish topic lol normally you lift the tail
  20. its a lot bigger pipe than the 1200 like 3 times the diameter the elbows are a lot different too not a formed U tube like the 1200. but theres a good chance it may work perhaps get the store to show you the elbow take some measurements or if you are on good terms with them take it home and see if it will fit
  21. i just re read your post if the holes in your braces are on the top of the tank you may be in luck although it would pay to measure one up in shop before buying it . they have a plastic elbow thing with form memory is a smaller o.d. than the flexible pipe .
  22. i think the id of the pipes is 25mm the outside diameter is bigger really chunky hoses so wouldnt fit through a 25mm hole . you could reduce the pipe size a lot and use 20mm bulkhead(tank) fittings as the 25mm ones need a 28mm hole at least. you would lose a lot of flow by reducing this. i would be inclined to drill the holes bigger or get a another bigger hole drilled for the intake and use the existing two for an split outlet or just use the filter as intended if you dont mind the look
  23. im guessing the tank would be big as id just add an extra two foot to it bit of glass across this an inch below where you want the water drill some holes for return plumbing , paint black with epoxy paint then make baffles like a marine tank fill these with media return pump and heater in end compartment plumbed back through glass give us some requirements and measurement s and have a sketch up competition lol
  24. spca can sort it out for you although if you would like to look after it yourself donna on here may be able to help im sure she will see this thread and comment in more detail
