  1. Yup, silicone is only one of many different materials they're made of. I'm not sure how or even if there is a way to easily tell the difference between them. From some googling seems silicone is mostly used for colored o-rings, not for black. But that's not at all reliable way to tell.
  2. Would depend on how your ammonia readings are. But I normally don't bother with water changes that small. I usually do 50%ish.
  3. Now is a good time for a water change. Also a week ago would have been a good time to get an ammonia test kit.
  4. While simultaneously holding the camera, yes.
  5. She got a little bit wet-a
  6. They're both copper based medications. Snails(And most invertebrates) are very sensitive to copper. Hence why things like snail rid are copper solutions.
  7. Also a lot of work and very dirty...And I was just standing around watching. Everything nearby is now orange.
  8. $18 NZ for a magazine vs $120nz locally...I just need to get around to buying a stack of them and get them sent to me.
  9. It will be the cirhossis of the liver that will kill them first, they drink like a fish.
  10. Which would be relevant if you were going to fill the tank solid with nori. But then there'd be no room left for water or the fish.
  11. Any salt would be washed away before processing. Check the sodium content on the package, probably will say 0.
  12. The preservative is drying. It's fine. People with marine tanks feed it to their fish all the time. I've seen stuff at the fish store that's identical down to the size of the slices and the bag theyre in to what you can get at New world but for 10 times the price.
  13. In a little gap between the side of a cabinet and an outer wall in the kitchen. Maybe I should try and find this girl, she'll have a whole $16.50 with interest by now!
  14. No, that would be classed as a fish. Very interesting looking fish though.
  15. hehehe, sprat...Don't look anything like them, they're clearly stream guppies. :sml1:
  16. What are you looking for specifically? Mitre10 usually has a reasonable selection and Mico plumbing should have just about everything.
  17. You put compost in your tank? I don't think I've ever heard of anyone doing that before. Interested to hear how it goes. Give it a couple more days, see if it clears up, otherwise give it a big water change and very gently refill so it doesn't stir anything up.
  18. Until it sinks or you get tired of waiting and put it in the tank. That would be simplest. Why bother taking it out again. Put it in. Weigh it down or just let it float around until it sinks. Done. How would it damage the filter or cause issues with salt? Bristlenose aren't that sensitive to salt, and the amount of residual salt after rinsing off a piece of driftwood is very minimal anyway. I get all my driftwood from the ocean. I give it a rinse to get off any sand and loose debris and throw it in the tank.
  19. Shouldn't be any toxicity issues. Aluminum is pretty harmless. If you really want to do it right you could get a temperature controller. THere are some relatively inexpensive ones around, but I can't find any at the moment. Also, little and swimming are spelled wrong. :slfg:

    DIY Flourite

What's left after replacing the endcaps, the ballasts and(Obviously) the tubes? A few wires? Like replacing the head and the shaft of an axe.

    Shrimp

Freshwater native shrimp. Paratya curvirostris. There are no more. They are like this
  22. Yup, I'd say doesn't need anywhere near 350w. I've had a 150 watt heater in my 440L tank and that varied a degree or two over winter in a room that gets under 20. 350 should be way more than enough.
