  1. Be careful picking up the tube socks. There might be...Uhh...Something...In them.
  2. I was thinking you were in chch. Bleah, you can figure out yellowpages I'm sure. Seriously, find a place near you and go have a look.
  3. Most people generally consider breeding hybrids to be irresponsible. Why are you trying to crossbreed them?
  4. Yeah, I think it would look better with a big piece of wood(Or several) standing up so the fish can swim behind it. Might make it look like it adds more depth and structure to the tank than a pile of wood nothing can swim through
  5. What is the timer controlling? Is it switching mains power on and off? Water supply on and off? Most electric timers I've seen do by the minute, so I'm guessing that isn't it?
  6. I'd suggest checking out any of these near you: http://yellow.co.nz/yellow+pages/landscaping+supply/christchurch
  7. Redspots are great at cleaning algae, they don't eat poo. They're just usually too big to eat the algae in all the tight little crevices normally found in a fishtank. And they'd rather eat other better stuff.
  8. You can get a top of the line FPV setup one for a relatively reasonable amount, waypoints, GPS, stabilization, control through a laptop etc. This one here is only around $4K US.
  9. Sounds like you've got the front panels of a 4.6 meter wide tank to me...
  10. Why? Does a bread crumb coating make them taste good?
  11. I noticed one of my filters wasn't running. So I pulled it out to clean it. Wasn't that dirty, but smelled kind of bad. Thought I'd check the intake see if it was clogged. Pulled a big mass out of the intake, after holding it in my hand squishing it and separating it a bit trying to figure out what it was I noticed a couple fins and realized it was the rotten front half of a bristlenose. How'd the bristlenose get into the filter intake? Because the strainer wasn't on it. The strainer wasn't on it because it had gotten knocked off and another bristlenose decided to swim into it and get himself wedged in so tight I had to cut it in half to get him out. That was a few days ago and I hadn't fixed it yet. As other evidence... If there's anything in the tank I can guarantee a bristlenose will get his dumbass stuck in it! :an!gry
  12. Here's the largest source of phosphates for most people: Also a lot of PH adjusting chemicals have a lot, a lot of carbons and it's a byproduct of rotting plants and waste in general. You can even add phosphates by putting your arm in the water with traces of soap residue.
  13. Ira

    pvc tube cement?

Yes, the cement is just PVC dissolved in MEK and when that evaporates you are just left with PVC.
  14. Big fan blowing on the surface of the water is going to be the cheapest. Might get 5° out of it. And insulate the sides of the tank to keep heat from getting in.
  15. Use something like 65mm downpipe and any restriction will be basically nonexistent. And it only costs about $7/meter.
  16. Only way I manged when I had a tank being smothered by it was dosing with E from a friendly drug dealer.
  17. Not true. They'll work fine above the tank, they're a closed loop so the only reason to have them below the tank is aesthetics and convenience priming them.
  18. Volume wouldn't be the most important factor in heat transfer though. Volume would. Digging a hole for a 200L barrel would probably be a lot easier than 20 meters of 1m deep trench though. But you'd get some good exercise and lose heaps of weight... :digH:
  19. Yeah, agreed. An extra 3 watts isn't going to cause them to spontaneously combust.
  20. The only thing it would leach would be silica(probably obvious), which is pretty harmless. And won't effect any tests other than silica tests in the tiny amounts that it does dissolve. The only thing, possibly, that it might increase is brown algae which is made of diatoms. They have a shell made of silica. And whether it's significant or not is debatable.
  21. Your body doesn't just dissolve material and then excrete it through urine. Have you never coughed? There is a continuous flow of mucous out of your lungs up your throat. Whether it's before damage is done is another matter...
  22. True, fittings would probably be the same, could be just a plug and play replacement.
  23. What about the rock killed them? I did once read of someone blaming a rock they collected from a river for killing their fish, after a while it turned out they'd soaked it in bleach to kill anything then, after a quick rinse, thrown it in the tank. Most rocks, especially those found in a river, don't dissolve very fast at all. They'll have been in the water for years, even decades, anything easily soluble would be loooooong gone.
  24. The plug isn't really important, it's the internal bits. At our 230v the adapter will most likely put out 24v volt rather than 12. So assuming it's a simple mechanism what it's connected to will draw draw twice the amperage at twice the voltage, so 4 times the power. Your 300ish watt light will be drawing 1200+ watts You could replace the adapter(Probably the cheapest but hard to find) or get a transformer(Easier but expensive)
