    severums

Severums aren't nasty at all. At least, mine aren't, the only bad thing I can say about them are they are serious pigs. Eat anything and everything. May eventually eat your danios too. But may not. At least mine I'd say it's 50/50 if they wouldn't or would. As for sexing them...Hmmm, I'm not sure exactly, I think females generally have more rounded ends of their fins and fewer spots and lines on their face. Assuming you feed them well and have good water conditions and everything so their growth isn't stunted they'll probably be around 5" in a year or so. Mine are about 7" and are around 2 years old. What else...Oh, feed them some spinach or lettuce every once in a while, they love it.
  2. I've never heard of doing that before.

    shipping fish

Uhhh...I'd think using a box would be better than using an envelope.

    And Again

    That lucky bas...Err...Male.
  5. Hmmm, I don't think you'll be able to get a fish store to buy that once it's saleable size. Too many of them around, noone wants to buy them.
  6. No, actually as a matter of fact I've never ha...Uhhh...No, saying that is just asking for trouble, so I'll shut up right now.
  7. What are their dimensions? I've gotta figure out how to pick it up. I'm pretty sure it won't just fit in the boot of my car.
  8. I was thinking more along the lines that you wouldn't enjoy working for me, but whatever.
  9. I haven't had much luck with bristlenoses either. I bought like 14 of them, most about an inch and a half or so and within about 3 months they'd all died. Having better luck with the last batch though. I think I've only lost 1-2.
  10. Ah. haha, Ok. Change of plans, won't be bringing any fish to the meeting, because I won't be there! I was thinking it was this week, it's next week and I'll be down south next week.

    How Much?

Hmmm, All brand new? I'd expect somewhere around $2K for the tank, stand, filters, livestock. Secondhand...Varies hugely depending on how desperate people are to get rid of them. I got mine for $400 all setup and running.
  12. How many you want, Cees, Bilbo? Cees, PM me your address again, I don't remember exactly where you live, I'll see if I can drop them off Tuesday evening for you, or you can come pick them up if you prefer. They're fairly small, about 1"-1.5" because they're way too crowded. BUt they'll grow!
  13. Since we're talking about giving stuff away. Anyone want some pearl gouramis? I thought I'd bring some to the meeting this week Please? PLEASE!! PLEASE someone take some!!! In another month or so I think I'll be so desperate to get rid of them I'll start paying people to take them! Wait, no forget that last bit, you'll all just wait until I'm paying...
  14. Depends on the type of algae that's in there. They won't eat black hair algae or blue green algae. They will eat your standard green and brown though. Try feeding them spinach, maybe they're not getting enough to eat. Algae usually isn't enough for them.

    smashed heater

They do say shock therapy can change people's personality.

    inline heaters

Last time I saw them they were about $150nz. They're around, but not too common because they're more than twice the price of an in tank heater.
  17. Wait, are we talking the intake for a cannister or internal filter or the tubes for a UGF that are usually called uplift tubes?
  18. I'd be tempted to ask them if I can have a look and see what the fish look like on the x-ray.
  19. Assuming you have just the standard airstone running the uplift, then you want it as tall as possible, up to the surface of the water if possible. With a powerhead...Tall enough to connect the powerhead is fine.
  20. And don't forget to drop some little pieces of gum for them to chew on to make their ears pop...
  21. That one looks nice. Very open, not cramped at all.
  22. Nope, it's not possible to do too many. Well, assuming that your water going in is the right temp and everything. Unless you get into unrealistic water changes like the water flowing throw the tank being changed so fast the fish get sucked up the intake or something.

    7 ft tank

No, the fresh water won't wipe out the bacteria.
  24. I try to do it every week when I do my 50% water changes. But...I've gotten a bit slack with the vacuuming. AND I've discovered my cichlid tank's nitrates go way down when I haven't vacuumed it for a while.
