Annoying that, banning all the easy to keep, hardy, nice looking plants and leaving us just the harder to keep ones. how fair is that? I'm surprised they haven't banned algae.

Speaking of aptasia. I've got 1, just one. But I scraped the bastard off the rock and scrubbed the spot with a brush under running water in the sink about 2 weeks ago...And he's BACK! I thought people were exagerating about how tough they are to get rid of.

A 100 liter tank takes only slightly more than the time between ad breaks on fair go to siphon all the water out... Was changing water in one of the fry tanks, usually seems to take AGES, this time I threw the hose in and left it going until the next set of ads. And when I went and looked there was maybe 2 inches of water left. hehe, Oops. Lucky fish, 90% water change!

There was another diagram a while ago of just the sump itself, probably your plans have changed since then. I just tried to find it, but couldn't, was thinking I might copy it if I get a sump made for my new tank. Had 3 vertical partitions, not completely open. Annoying that I can't find that thread.

It's not activated carbon. Totally different type of carbon. More like carbon dioxide, I guess that it's intended to supplement. Activated carbon is basically just burned wood.

There is an upper hutt club, but I think it's pretty much dead. Best bet is the Kapi Mana club. That's the one I go to. -

The times I've given tanks a good clean I just left them on the stand, scrubbed and hosed off the sides then siphoned and sponged all the mucky water out of the bottom. Easier than hauling it out to the yard.

Water and a cloth and scrub it. Maybe some bleach if you think it needs sterilizing and then rinse it really well.

It's probably due to having heaps of organics in the water. Have you looked in your rainwater tank recently? You'll probably never want to drink your water again. Clean your gutters, get your tank cleaned might help.

Animates seems to always have them. Though, I guess they haven't the last few times I've been there. Any fish store should have no problem at all getting them for you.
