An undergravel filter will just make it worse. It'll suck all the crap into the gravel. If you want clean gravel, use a gravel vacuum every week when you do your water changes.

I'm totally out of sea water. Planning on picking some up probably next weekend. Might give APS specialty chemicals a ring monday since they'll probably be closed during the weekend...Oh, damn, they'll be closed then too. Ok, Tuesday. They're the most promising looking company.

Yeah, seemed way low to me too, Reef. Hmmm...Yeah, no harm checking again...Comes up 80 again. Unless I'm doing something wrong, it really is that low. Could be a little higher, maybe 90, but that's just the difference between purplish blue and blue, one drop. Redox chemicals...I'll check if there's anything similar around here.

Finally got a skimmer and test kits. Results are... Ammonia:0 Nitrates:5 PH: 8.1 KH:8.8 Calcium: 80 Salinity:1.023 Calcium is way low, I'm kinda surprised. But not too worried since I'm not planning a reef tank. Still, Where's a good place to get kalk in the wellington area? Couldn't hurt to bump it up a bit. Does everything else seem fine to everyone else? The nitrates should go down now that I've got the skimmer running, I'd think.

Ideally it should be 7. If you've got acid rain it'll be lower. My rainwater always is exactly 7 when I test it. It can drop fast though once you put it in the tank due to acids in the tank and no buffering capacity.

Yeah, just feeding less and a good clean should be all you'll need.

Depends on who you ask. Some say endlers are a strain of guppy, some say they're an independent species. Though...I don't know if you can call them another species now since since apparently all endlers in the hobby are not hybridized with guppies to varying amounts and the wild population is extinct...Paved over for a parking lot, if I remember right.

Let's see...In order my suggestions... Clean the filter more often. 6 months - 1 yr I'd say. I don't think you'd WANT to dry them out. Dunno, but they DO have to breathe so you want them to be able to get out of the water.

The rocks I got weren't half bad. About 30-40 tubeworms, a handful of some dark brown...Thingies. And I just about 30 seconds ago discovered a little bitty starfish about 3/4 inch across.

They're generally just fine in a community tank. As long as there isn't anything like guppies with long fins. They're generally not smart enough to realize they're not just funny looking male bettas.
