  1. Good luck with them.My daughter brought me a pair,I have them in my big tank, ones an import they other is NZ bred.I think ive had them three months now.I was waiting for them to die,but they havent yet.
  2. How big is your tank?.You could buy dividers if you cant aford another tank. The problem will happen as they start to grow,as they grow at different rates you will need to seperate the bigger ones.
  3. Congraulation Olly what are you feeding yours, you should have a big batch of young.Have you got grow out tanks ready as they grow at different rates.
  4. My first fish tank was a bath tub.I use to put in cockabillys, whitebait poor things as they use to die. Then my uncle made a big tank and we had all sorts.
  5. Thanks for that repto.I dont want her to breed till summer, but it seems i have little choice in the matter.Im more worried about her becoming egg bound,as i read if they cant find some where to lay they will hold their eggs and can become bound up.Then it becomes costly and turtle can die
  6. You are correct, but my turtles are kept in a heated tank so they dont go through hibernation.I have heard of them breeding at all times of the year.Just took her out again as she was digging on floor by the pot plant. If that is what shes trying to do,i hope she finds some where as it is bad for them to hold on to them.Sat out side with her and had a coffee hopeing she would settle some where and dig.
  7. My female is driving me nuts. She keeps banging on the glass trying to get out.I was thinking she wants to lay eggs.I have tried putting a container on her platform, but not interested. So i took her out side and she found a spot and started to dig, then lost interest and moved on.This has been going on for three days.Or is she smarter than i thought and just wanting to get out,as i some times let them have walks. What do other turtle owners do,when their turtles want to lay?.
  8. Is it not cruel to cage an animal, where its not free to roam and enjoy its own kind.It may be a pest but i see it as cruel.I hope a home is found for it where it will be looked after in the same manner.
  9. Have you thought about trying the zoo or an animal farm where schools can go,and children have contact with different animals.
  10. Dont let it go,it wont live its been use to in captivity. That would be crawl. Its very sad some of the ideas on here. This is some ones pet that they love and they are asking for help.As hard as it will be,do the kind thing and have it put down. They dont know its happening, they just go into a deep sleep.
  11. Hi nice to see more turtle lovers,.I have three red eared sliders, and im looking forward to hearing about yours.
  12. Sorry i did not read it right,if its just a thermestat it might not be so bad.But still ring around
  13. One of mine went like that, and then bang.If you arehandy its not so bad.Elements are expencive. Its the sparky that cost the most. Its quick work, but they charge a call out fee.Ring around as some are cheaper than others.good luck
  14. Your right pet shops are bad at this.and it makes me sick,But all the blame cant be put on them. There are adults that think you just chuck them in a tank, with out researching there needs. They buy them as babies and think how cute.As they get older their not so cute as they require bigger tanks, good filters heat lamp and uvb lamps and cleaning.Sorry im hot under the collar over this.I have taken in a couple of turtles, that have not had their requirements met.One stunted and badly pitted shell. The other lumpy shell, old shutes not shed.
  15. Red ear sliders dont need to hibernate if you have them in a heated tank. And they do need a heat lamp, which helps them dry out and also their dejesting of food.Google has some good turtle sites which will explain better than i can.Its a shame people dont cheak thier requirements before getting them.I think the some pet shops need to inform buyers of requirements.Thse poor things suffer at the hands of people that have not looked into there care and think its just a matter of putting them in a tank.Good on you for helping
  16. Thanks for that. Now another question, are the albino strain weaker. And do they breed as well as a normal strain.
  17. How would they breed through them? they would have to be clever.I want to do this for a ten year old,so needs to be cheap.I would need the water to flow,to spread the heat around.Im begining to think it might be cheaper to just get a smaller tank.
  18. My ten year old daughter, has snake skin guppys and shes turning out some lovely golds.I was thinking of getting her some albinos. But to keep the lines pure i would need to buy her another tank.Would i be better off buying a bigger tank, and divideing it.Would that mean i would need a filter for each compartment. And how get on with heating
  19. A bit late replying to this.If you check the turtle sites, turtles are not ment to be housed together. When young its not so bad.As they get older they can kill each other. In a pond its okay to have them together,as they have the space to get away. They need to have their own tank.
  20. I think every body has fry dying but that is a high number and of concern since its some of the bigger ones. Are they getting anoth to eat,i use ground feeding pills as will, and they will be compeating with the adults for the food, and the adults will win.I think thats your problem to many adults with them.Adults will be giving them the bash.

I just google it very hard stuff to get rid of.If you scrape the plants, you will damage them. You may have to strip tank to get rid of it.Is it just on plants.

    Sharks

My albino and my rainbow shark are acting weird.I have never seen this bahavour before.I put a pipe in the tank. They are taking turns at swimming in and then backing out,but not going all the way out. They are doing this repeatedly. Its like they are cleaning. They look stupid as they can hardly fit in there.Im thinking of taking pipe out as im worried they will get stuck.Has any one had their sharks do this.
