  1. What Central folks are taking up the invite to HBAS on the 20th? I have a member at uni down at Massey who may be able to make it it he can catch a lift. Owen
  2. +1 definately not Maccus different facial markings
  3. for my cories I dont use meth blue anymore, or even airstone as I usually am short of air. I just take care to remove any white eggs with tweezers, slosh some fresh water over em daily, sweet as I have read that meth blue can harden the case of teh egg, dunno how much faith to put in that.
  4. Rob Torrens got 5, I'd say they will be pretty safe, sounds like enough serious breeders laid hands on them.
  5. Yay my redspots have spawned again, its on a big piece of bamboo so may leave it and see how they go, mum's looking pretty protective atm so fingers crossed. Have been trying to get my new Cories, Adolphoi & arcutus to go, but still no joy. Anyone got any tips for Adolphoi's?

  8. I have just had a club member inform me of her tiger lotus flowering. have we got a best practice sorted for pollenation/collecting seeds/germination. Its been a while so ther emay be new info. Please advise. Owen
  9. I hope Karma repays you Johannes, we need more like you
  10. 250 & 400's w mh are easier for me, 8) Im an industrial sparky. if the power bill doesnt put you off I'll start scavenging parts. my preference would be 240w of T5 HO lights by way of a fitting called a high five high bay. Uber reflector would fit in a hood nicely. Cost $200 brand new, Electricity commission subsidises them as a MH industrial light replacement. damn cheap, I want some, but other things keep cropping up.
  11. Rats I know the feeling
  12. Best we find you some uber lights if we are going planted then Mark, the ones you have now wont cut the mustard for that depth, I'll see what crops up, prob find you some MH but the power bill is already nasty, T5 HO FTW 8) 8).

    PH Dilemma

Possibly flukes? I'd try a very mild dose of formalin, just stay on the safe side of the doseage and watch em close. I agree with the others, dont chase the PH, it causes more issues than its worth, a piece of stocking with Hauraki gold peat in yr filter will make the water nice and soft with plenty of tannins for your rams. As stated check the KH and let us know the results. IMO you should join the Dunedin club, Norman is da man and has been keeping fish for longer than I have been out of nappies (at least a year & 1/2  ) Stable PH is most important! HTH Owen
  21. Its still a feasiable option, I certainly would be flying to europe or the states to choose mine and bringing back my self. Maybe in a year or so once I get my mortgage sorted
  22. looks pretty good for L046 then doesn't it, fly to the USA cough up a few grand them bring em back in hand luggage, get em in quarantine at MAF approved facility get a big lock and security on your fish room. Piece of cake you now own some Zebs
  23. Traceability is probably most important for africans etc, I note the whole hybrid issue is a major problem for those breeders. By maintaining good records such as the register it will be possible for (serious) breeders to ensure they are only introducing quality blood into their lines especially important in the case where only NZ bred fish are available. A NZ bred fish that wins or places in a show can then be traced back to the breeder who produced it and their line can carry the endorsement. I guess its starts to go in the same direction as those dog or cat breeders who breed for show quality rather than the dirty mongrel you get from the local pet shop at 1/4 the price with no guarantee of parentage. There is always a market for quality.
