  1. Sorry guys, have been flat out organising a display for the school holidays. We still have spots available for the quiz night and the crawl has no real cutoff We will most likely be moving out at about 10.30am, exact details will be sorted after our 6th October club night. If you want to come please email rochandowen@hotmaildotcom to secure your spot and be put on the email list for the details
  2. I lost 3 total, got some metro from friendly local vet, treating food for 5 day course 2x daily, with plenty of water changes. No others look infected.... settled down... I hope, all 3 were small I suspect issues with the breeding aggression sparked it. Stripped my biggest female Ikola got 3 eggs and have them in a tumbler, hopefully nett loss zero. Thanks for the help Owen
  3. Yay to Central! You guys keep in touch, I reckon a Mollie hunt might be a good idea for summer
  4. Perfect great to have you Gals on-board.
  5. Dont forget to discuss who's coming down for our crawl/quiz night, we have put some places aside for the quiz part, I expect a team from you guys, and we can billet a few more so there really is no excuse :bounce:
  6. That's a perk of being a Waikato member, and a very limited deal, non members will only be able to get them from a shop (with the exception of a very select few breeders in other centres. Adolfoi are incredibly slow to grow 6 months+ to your standard fish shop size, and spawns are very small so I wouldn't expect to see them "cheap" outside of the odd Waikato club night special offer for a few years yet. I will get hold of Levon at HFF this weekend and if people you are serious about getting a group to grow out he will be able to help you out. Owen
  7. Thanks Ryan I need to track some metro down, my tank is a big 5 footer and am running a sump + 2 good sized canisters, so water quality is pretty good, I have Brichardi breeding and my trophs are really getting active as they grow on so it could be the smaller males getting bullied, but there is no visible damage to any fish. I have isolated the worst fish in the sump and ceased feeding. I dosed with levamisole and prazi, so that should take care of any parasites until I can get some Metro. Owen
  8. Thanks guys, what about isolation? I am worried that it will spread but am also worried that catching them will cause more stress
  9. I have a colony of Ikolas almost a year old, feed exclusively NLS, never had any issues, but have lost 2 fish in three days, no signs of bloating, tested all parameters they are all fine. I now have a smaller fish hanging on his own, not looking flash, with very fine white stringy poo. There is a lot of breeding action going on at the moment, perhaps its stress bringing it on but I suspect Bloat. Big question is how can I sort this out and fast, we lack many of the medications I read about so need a NZ Version. Halp
  10. Well we currently look like we have almost 20 stops to cover I really don't know how we are going to cover that many, I'd expect a big day, more details when I get some more confirmations. We may even have to break it down to two groups... logistically its a bit of a nightmare I think I am going to think outside the square...fortunately I'm not very good at doing things the way they have always been done.
  11. Hi all Limited numbers for Meal and Quiz, so get hold of me asap to secure your place. As mentioned we will be having our tank crawl on Sat 16 October and following it up with a meal and a fun quiz night. Unfortunately the restaurant at the Commerce club is already booked that night, so I need an idea of numbers for the meal and the Quiz evening so I can make some plans. Saturday evening is traditionally quiet at the club so... I have talked with the club about how we can make it work and we will hold the Quiz in the Riesling room (where we had our last club night) this would limit us to 50 people, very cosy but workable. The meal is still doable at the club, with those who want to be civilised taking meals in the Riesling room and heathens like me who don't really mind can eat in the bar, this will take the pressure off the smaller room for dining. Meals will be under $20 and we will have a small cover charge for the quiz part $5 or similar in order to pay for prizes etc. Pretty good value for a fun night out. Drinks are cheap too. You can attend the any of the three parts of the day as your time allows, novice fish keepers & non fishy partners are encouraged and they will be able to contribute to the quiz as this will be a fun night and the super technical questions will only be one section. The quiz part of the evening will be going late and probably wont be suitable for younger kids. Cheers Owen & Rochelle Lingard
  12. Hi all Wednesday night will see us holding our club night at (if the club agrees) OUR NEW HOME. The Waikato Commerce Club 197 Collingwood St Hamilton, 7pm, come to the restaurant entrance so you can be signed in please. This months Guest Speaker is Dennis Anderson a breeder and ex owner of Massey Pets in Auckland, he will continue our series on breeding. As usual we will have a sales table, so if you have fishy related items to sell or trade bring it along (please bag up fish well) Our table show category is "Cold water fish" this month, note this includes natives, gold fish, leopard fish and minnows etc so bring along your fish and let see what you have. See you there Owen
  13. We will also try and billet as many as we can, I will be canvasing the club at the next club night
  14. Bah! we are the most active club in the area if they think they can give us a run for our money they can try  If they do want to join us we would welcome them though we are the best 8)
  15. I reckon Kasey should enter, he makes the effort to come visit us every month I'm sure Waikato can round up at least 1 or two carloads to do a trip: look at his tank, I know he has some awesome looking guppies as he won last table show Visit Malcolm's setup and a trip to HFF :bounce: Make a good day out, 8) remind me at next clubnight to check its sorted Maybe if Wok volunteers to be a Guest Judge at our main crawl he could pop in and see Kasey's as a warm up run to our new marking system For those who live in Franklin area, there is a South Auckland Aqu Soc, details on the main web page clubs section. They are very small but I am sure John & Co would be very supportive of anyone with the energy to pick up the pace. We will invite you to all our events and you will need to be affiliated to enter the Regional Fish Show in January
  16. Waikato Aquarium soc are having our 1/2 yearly tank crawl on Saturday 16 October. We will be following up with a meal and a quiz night, this will be a fun event and we invite other clubs to send a crew to visit us for the Weekend. More details to follow, your Club Secretaries will be getting a message from us soon, but you heard it here first.
  17. We'd love to have visitors for our tank crawl, date will be end of September beginning of October, Roch and I are thinking of having an event for the evening as well, so stand by for details.
  18. OMG! What a night! We had 40 People show and signed up another 4 newbies...My very large garage was cramped and now we need a new venue...again, for the second month running About 10 breeding certs handed out, a huge amount went through the sales table and another nice wee table show. We have Auckland members driving down regularly.. What have we created!
  19. The site looks stunning, the team did a great job! I have my Tour of Duty tomorrow, looking forward to it. Owen
  20. Thanks for the replies I have been flat out and it looks like shes eaten them, never mind, next time 8)
  21. I think I have an Ikola holding, but she still is eating, I read somewhere that they have found food in stomachs of holding females, can someone confirm? She seems to be bigger in the mouth and rolling something, she also grabs mouthfulls of air occasionally. Next question to strip or not to strip?
  22. Congratulations Guys n Girls! I hope others take your lead :bounce:
  23. Boil them before use or else the slime monster attacks.
