  1. good call, add soft shell turtles, tortoises and shinglebacks to that list...
  2. very nice. mine don't seem to put on weight when fed flies. Are you breeding your own?
  3. Cheers to all those that turned up, was good to see you all. I have misplaced to email sheet, so if all who were there could PM me your details I will keep you posted as to developments...
  4. keep it simple until they have put on size. reason being food hides, food goes missing, is there one missing.... wet paper on the base of an aquarium and a light bulb as a heat source is all you need. can go crazy on the other stuff once they are big. pics of my frog set up in all post, link in Private Sale Forum...
  5. not likely, I have some albino taddies if u keen
  6. no heat = no eating. warm them up and they will be sweet.
  7. sorry mate, I can't at the moment. I am still trying to find a reliable supplier. You can source from oversea's sites and import, just do a google search. Best brand to my knowledge is 'TRex'.
  8. you need a heat source that emits light and heat during the day. The brighter the light, the more active the dragons will be. when dragons are adult, no heat required at night if kept inside or garage etc. spend your money making sure the heat and light are good during the day. mercury vapours are best as they emitt visible light, uvb, and supply heat all in one. problem is they are hard to source reliably in n.z. also they result in one spot in the tank where the dragon gets everything it needs. if your dragon is adult and inside it should be shut down over winter, which results in no power being needed.
  9. that lizard is obviously unwell. it is being kept with blue tongues. if a shop stocks them, it is to make profit, but with pets there is the added responsibility of looking out for the animals welfare. if you have kept beardies for many years and you do not realise that, i honestly feel very sorry for you. if this thread had not been on the net, people like you would ensure that it was kept this way...YOU need to get your facts right, no beardie keeper in their right mind would not think something was wrong. alien4, apologies, I have heard you keep your stock well.
  10. are you serious? this is a clear case of cruelty and ignorance. Someone PM the name please, pretty sure I know who the supplier is...slaters for food....go figure...
  11. ARC guy admitted to Ivan at reptile park that they pushed it through to fast...decision not made on anything other than blueys and that can still be revoked. Imagine Joe Bloggs and his 4 blueys, if they breed he will not be putting them in the freezer. His uncle owns a nice bit of bush in the Waitak's and he has never seen any native reptiles there, so what the hey, why not let em go. The exact scenario these guys are trying to stop.
  12. In light of the new 'pest proposal' by ARC I am planning a meeting this weekend on Sunday at my place in Mt Albert Auckland at 2pm. Just a chat and some ideas sharing before I try to get a meeting with the ARC. I have quite a few reptiles and frogs that can be seen too, and I'll have some drinks on hand- weekend meeting after all. PM me if you are keen, would be good to put some faces to the names.. link to proposal is below, and it could be the tip of the iceberg if us herphiles don't do something.... http://www.arta.govt.nz/shadomx/apps/fm ... teName=arc

  14. O.K here we go...if...I won big W...I would start a community where no cats or dogs were allowed and have it fenced off. I would also trap/bait for rodents. I know that most people like cats, hell, I have 2 myself. But they are the number one killer when it comes to wildlife. Silly Itty Bitty Weany Meany Maffy Waffy laws banning the sale of certain reptiles do nothing but make you and I realise that part of our hard earned money is being spent on a big pile of poo. If we are going to pretend to be all green and biodiversity conscious then we at least need to be honest, nothing will make us clean and green like sterilising all cats. If you have one then fine, it needs to be sterilised/neutered/speyed. No breeding of cats allowed. And why not ban the sale of non native plants? Why does everyone pick on the people that like the cool pets
  15. if no luck, take her to the vet and give her some oxytosin (sp???), she will lay. last resort though, better than being egg bound..
  16. very cool indeed. are you are allowed TM links if product can not be sourced retail? Understand the site rules, but if the retailers don't stock it then why not...
  17. even well fed domestic cats will slaughter skinks, gekos, birds. Making a rule that they need to be locked up at night will not do a thing. Certain areas of the country should ban the keeping of cats. Some areas in CHCH have done this, but they were new developments, and these areas have become havens. Your comment above is not practical.
  18. certainly not going into policy reviews....
  19. talk about no idea. what do they mean by 'wild'. iguana? why are they a pest animal. I am going to make a submission. I'll use small words.
  20. get an arcadia light control unit so you can hang the tube- look at the pic's of Bullgogod's set up or my pic's thread leps, boxies, beardies. The tube should be as close as possible to the basking spot. Basking spot should be the highest point in the set up as reptiles tend to hang out as high as they can be. If you have two w/d's as they grow you will need 2 basking spots. If the tube is 30cm plus away then there will be no uvb absorption. Contrary to oversea's info on some sites w/d's need plenty of uv. Trust me, I mucked it up on my first ones and they ended up with rubber jaws due to deformed bone growth. Have a look at "Lippy" if you go up to Ti Point. Also you can not beat having an outdoor basking cage for hot days in Winter and more regualrly in Summer.
  21. aunty helen knows best culture is rife in the gov. depts. expert opinion overseas supports regulation of exotic pet industries. licensing system, yearly fee's and make it illegal to sell animals that can not be proven to be bred in NZ. Make a list of what is here and go from there. The system in Oz is not perfect but it is so much better than here. why would they ban w/d's?
  22. Keep it separate from the others or keep only males or females. Hard as they are notoriously difficult to sex.
