  1. Any MAF guys browsing this forum? Have a look at this.....revolutionary!! http://www.freewebs.com/radicalreptiles ... gforms.htm just cut and paste it and change the details...or pay someone to do it for you!
  2. good luck, the success of the application will not be related to its merits.... in the mean time: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=43009 Its kinda funny to look at the regulations in NZ from an outsiders point of view. MAF/Biosecurity seems even more pathetic now. Comon', if the aussies can come up with a system that works.....
  3. the nuptial pad is the black pad on the back of the thumb that colours up when the male is ready to mate. usually only visible for a couple of months per year. females can have same colouring on legs so nuptial pad is best way to sex them. males also have more of a prominent 'adams apple' lump on throat as they have a larger voice box for croaking. this applies to golden bell and green frogs ( litoria aurea and litoria raniformis and prob litoria ewingii too)
  4. 4 oz. glycerin 1/4 cup sugar 1/4 cup hot water 1 box (8 oz.) baby cereal (oat) Dissolve the glycerin and sugar in hot water. Cool the solution. Pour the whole box of cereal into a large bowl. Pour the solution in a very thin stream into the cereal while stirring enthusiastically—it should take about 2 minutes to dribble all of the liquid if you are pouring slowly enough. The medium will be somewhere between sticky, lumpy, and crumbly, and it will smell very pleasant. Store it in a plastic bag. I also add 2 tablespoons or so of brewers ( NOT active yeast) yeast, it seems to stop mould from attacking the culture. Also keep between 25-30C. also u can use honey rather than the sugar..better but more expensive. http://lawrencehallofscience.org/foss/f ... moths.html
  5. cheers dude...leps locked up in a vault...don't like your signature quote much..."I fought the law and the law won" lol:) prefer I fought the law and they can shove it up their...
  6. to my knowledge the only lacies here legally are the ones that were at Akl zoo... but who knows. It is more tham likely that Varanus acanthurus were bought in legally...although the lack of permits that MAF has means proofing this is very difficult. Moa's in Gore? I thought the KFC dowmn there tasted better than usual....
  7. The truth is this. it is simple but shocking. MAF has NO (nada, nil, zero, zilch) knowledge of what was imported into the country legally...even though most of those import forms are in at least triplicate...they did not keep copies. This means that to avoid people realising what turkeys they are they will poo-poo any ideas to legimately import reptile or amphibian species. If it is a warm and fluffy cat, aka bird exterminator then no worries matey. If you are into reptiles or frogs then you do not want to be in NZ...we are the laughing stock of the western world when it comes to herpetology. There are valid reasons to restrict/seriously monitor the importation of frogs, i.e: chytrid fungus, however the current regime does not have enough expertise/intelligence to regulate this in a responsible manner...so in short: until labotomies are free to MAF employees or enough people jump up and down to make MAF change their stance then you will have no joy. Move to OZ, responsible regulations and no small d--k syndrome with the authorities. Look me up when u are there, lol. Maybe a kinda aggressive statement to this point, but it is TRUE. The whole iguana thing is proof..make up that the igs have a strain of salmonella and pretend it is not in the country, then use this to class them as unwanted orgs...but first allow them to be sold for 6 months then come down hard..just to make sure you cause as much grief as possible, but its ok..we are a government agency so we are right. Anyone seen those docs for the igs that were legally imported??? No?? Oh look, here's one stapled to the back of Napier Aq's Zoo licence...why don't we have a copy? Oh well....you get the drift. The only justice is the salaries these guys get...you pay peanuts, lol:) Deep dark holes? Already there so I can say the truth, and it is the truth:()
  8. you certainly couldn't house them together. Not till the price drops drops anyway.
  9. guys, bottom line. the original animals were not cheap. breeders make back what they can. An animal is worth whatever anyone is willing to pay for it. The people that pay 1500 and breed them will more than make back the initial outlay. I for one am glad that the new things that come out are pricey...we are lucky that the people who know what they are doing with herps can make some coin. In my case the coin does not go on puffy jackets or a cool car..or a missus:(. It goes to my $800 per month power bill and getting more cool herps. I bet that the people that get the leps will look after them very well indeed...more than they would the family goldfish..3 for $9 from animates. The guys that got in first on the beardies..not the ones who waited...made good money. The leps produce less young and hence the price will remain high for longer. If you want to wait for the price to be lower then go for it, or if you are serious about having a hobby that pays you back a bit then hold off on the mag wheels...plasma tv...labradoodle and be responsible for making this hobby grow. It'll be more productive than trying to spawn emperor angels and less mess than breeding shitzus....and reptiles are cooler anyhow. Nuff said.
  10. bring in some. Im not picky, but if you can some of the morphs in the states would be cool. promise I won't tell.... we make do with what we have.
  11. i have 2 for sale. choice of incubated female or male. $3k the pair. pm me. 2 weeks old.
  12. any luck with the gisbornes. I tried them but they escaped...seem a good sized roach.
  13. are they an invasive species if they get out in the reptile room? sound like they are a good food.
  14. hey mincie, what sort of roaches you sell?
  15. what you got? repto, yes that matched what i have been told, also apparently they are allowed to be transferred to the public because orana and otorohanga licences were 'general'..whatever that means..chinese whispers
  16. boring people that only keep cats n dogs.....but seriously anyone can keep anything as long as they are keen and smart enough to observe. boxies are piece of cake and tortoises in general are pretty low maintenance.
  17. maf/biosecurity trying to prosecute me for 'illegal inportation'. All were confiscated and although zoos have applied to keep them as containment facility animals they will not be approved. Although I have affadavits from people that have had then within the last 20 years it does not look good. MAF claims they are no longer present in the wild, so they must have come in illegally. They wre sold by Select A Pet and Johnnie Walkers in the 1980's so it would be reasonable to assume these are stock derived from these. In the case of birds if the adults are of dubious origin then they can be confiscated, but any young are classed as bred here and not illegal...why this does not apply to reptiles/frogs is beyond me and no explanation has been given. Since National has come to power and requested that all expenditure be accounted for, many of these guys are aware their jobs are on the line and want to make a name for themselves. There is no difference between beardeds, leopards, blueys etc and these frogs...a total waste of tax payer dollars. Basically I should I have kept them under the radar so to speak, but I am sick of this hobby have 'illegal' conotations simply because the authorities do not have the knowledge or sense to create a licensing system to establish what is here and what is not. Asking other people that have them to come forward is a waste of time as they may be subject to the same persecution and harrassment. Basically these guys make the rules as they go and when they are questioned they shirk all responsibility to those higher up the ladder. Ridgetails, Day Geckos, Iguanas, Lace Monitors, Mulga Monitors, Water Monitors, Frillies, Jackson's Chameleons are ALL in private hands. Ex Zoo animals or illegally imported or imported when regulations were not in place? Who knows...it seems that as long as you keep under the radar and treat the hobby like an illegal activity you will be fine...but try to legitimise things and you get a bunch of wanabe cops come down on you. The moral of the story is beware and do not keep records of who you get your animals from....ever. All kinds of exotic birds can be bought/sold/traded. Bio 101...Birds are warm blooded and can naturalise and compete with natuve fauna. Reptiles are cold blooded and can not regulate their own body temp...NONE of the species above can naturalise and peer reviewed data supporting this is available to anyone that can spell 'google'. As long as there are no proper rules this stupity will continue. And for the record I have handed any animal that I have come accross that is either cites 1 or stolen...emerald monitors and day geckos, so I do have morals. MAF could not even keep that under their hats as they promised. A story on the emeralds ran in the herald the day after handed them in with credit given to MAF's investigators. Says it all really.
  18. Yes the leopards are legal. Swap you one for 600 red ears?
  19. Anyone out there with some Greeks they would consider swapping for Leopard Geckos?? Email me: [email protected].
  20. would not think they are of age yet...?
  21. seemingly the sex of beardies is not temperature dependent. odds would be .5 x .5 x .5 x .5 = pretty unlucky. put some photos up bulldogod, I may be keen.
