  1. Why would you want to place it on the tube? Is not the idea to reflect the light by placing the reflector above the tube?
  2. Another option is growing the glosso in a pot. Raised 300mm high. If you have other plants in front you won't see the pots. It depends on how much you really want to have glosso growing in this tank....
  3. Congrats on it being square. It is handy having a shelving unit for tanks. ......and such a nice shade of pink.....
  4. I moved on the weekend and transferred them into another tank. The first flower spike melted away but the second is growing strong. No update pictures because we have no internet at home yet.
  5. Scrub it, rinse it, soak it for a day and do some water changes in that bin, this is to see if there is anything in the wood that might seep out of a hole, then weigh it down in your tank.
  6. Have you had time to do any more work on this tank?
  7. Bollocks to 150L for dwarf chain loaches. You can have 6 in a 60L and they flourish in my experience. They are social and do best in groups of 6 or more.
  8. As mentioned Dwarf chain loaches are great cullers of snails. And if you are lucky enough to find a Zodiak Loach they will eliminate every snail in no time.
  9. Here are a couple of photo's I took after I had added the raised surrounds. I just cut down a water bottle. Nothing fancy.
  10. Thanks. My pH comes out of the tap @ 5.5 and gasses off to ~6.0. My KH is <1 and GH undetectable from the tap. We are on bore water. So I have to buffer the KH so there is at least some. That is why I dose Magnesium aswell. Just enough to have some GH.
  11. We had a ginger cat with tabby patterning as kids, we named her sketty, short for spaghetti. Mind you I don't have a high opinion of male ginger cats. I think Slippers is a good name. Always a good threat.
  12. Yeah, it is totally, just because I can
  13. Yeah it may be too warm for those newts. I have 3x 4' 6500k tubes including one plant tube over them atm. The 3 options for fish which I may include are: leopard danio, short fin Betta, or Khuli. They all do ok in 4" of water and plants. However my cherry barbs fry are growing, I may include them and not have to buy any fish.
  14. I have a 55W heater in there and the water being circulated by an aquaball filter. I have a cover yeah, that needs a bit more tweaking tomorrow too. Actually newts isn't a bad idea.
  15. If you are going to have a false beam for power, you could incorporate the end of the tank into it. Then have a dark divider overflow, with plumbing running down to a sump/wet/dry filter. I imagine you will need suspended lights also. Ones with fins so the light doesn't spill out into the dinners eyes who are sitting below it. Either that or suspend the lights into a hood on top of the tank.
  16. I shall add jbl root tabs. Also I will dose daily: Fl. Excel KNO3 MgSO4 KCl Fl. regular
  17. After being inspired by Supasi's emerse crypts I decided I would try to grow some stunning plants emerse also. Today I set up a 100cm x 40cm tank. The substrate is fine schist beach sand with aragonite sand mixed in. I shall put in hollow pots tomorrow to raise some of the plants out of the water. Today I just bunged them in there once I had chosen my specimens. The plants I am trialling are: Japanese peace lily Marbled sword Crypt wendtii x2 varieties Banana plant Narrow leaf sword Indian fern
  18. Here is today's photo. There is a second flower spike at the back of the plant. I will start another thread for my emerse tank experiment.
  19. 1tsp of table salt per 19L/5USg blocks Nitrite toxicity. Your fish will be fine.
