  1. I think I speak for everyone in here, when I say: WHERE ARE THE PHOTO'S!!!??? :slfg:
  2. all my gear is not worth the sort of money the typical "art collector" spends on these things... IMO
  3. Absolutely brilliant attitude. After all, discussion is what it is all about, I suppose in that respect, the artist has been succesful... :dunno:
  4. "a fool and his money are soon parted" My point being that there are children starving all over the world (and right here in NZ, for that matter) and people pay thousands of dollars for "art" that a down syndrome preschooler with one foot and one eye could produce in 5 minutes flat, just because it hangs in some poncy studio rather than magneted to the fridge... To be honest it sickens me that people buy into this when there are much more worthwhile causes out there... and then it doesn't look like ANYTHING!!! As for opinions, it's a forum, opinion is kinda part and parcel...
  5. She must have had some offspring come back, there are regularly smaller eels down there, we see them when we walk the dog down the back near the new construction sites... There also a massive Eel up Waitewheta (sp?) that is hand-tame...
  6. Jesus... and I thought I was full of it... :rotf: :digH:
  7. maybe its the lack of "art" that does it... you really honestly believe that the above is worth more than the sum of its parts? (paint, canvas) If I blew my nose on a hanky and pinned it to the wall, would it be art? Because that's about the depth of vision it took to splat that thing together...
  8. difference being that he probably has some long speel about the painting and what it represents and why its amazing... Should have become an artist... I can B.S till the cows come home, AND! I can't draw/paint anything legible, not that it seems a requirement anymore... You shall refer to me from now on as "heeblejeeble nick-nock paddy-wacker" :slfg: and I shall refer to myself in the third person... I'm going to be rich and eccentric... :happy2: :digH:
  9. Keep complaining...
  10. Oi, It's a forum, people are going to post what they think is relevant, no need to get all tiffy... Remember you're relatively new here... Attitude like that won't see you getting much help at all, especially when you're asking for help... If you don't like a comment or post, ignore it... pH.... As long as you float your fish and add water SLOWLY to the ones that are being introduced (1 cup of water/15-20 min into the bag) will gradually change the pH in the water of the ones being introduced until they are able to be released. I'd say bout 4 cups to a average sized LFS bag.
  11. Coming from someone who used to collect snakes and scorpions... That thing, for whatever reason, gives me the heeby jeebies....
  12. Micron socks, frequently changed filter wool will also help. DO NOT bother with the potions that claim to "create" clarity...
  13. Unless these involve ripping his soul out with a tooth-pick... No dice... IMO :dunno:
  14. Bit hard in that shot, not quite square or close enough (appreciate that fish don't make the best models...or take instruction for that matter...) Looks Danio to me based on what I can make out...
  15. Corrupt isn't quite right (it's no South Africa) But it is certainly the laughing stock of the 1st world... 6 months detention?? 60c for the bullet would be cheaper... Chur!
  16. Not exactly a "rock-star" animal to begin with... except in NZ, to other NZer's :slfg:
  17. Doesn't have to be stirred, if build-up is enough it gets to a point where it releases all at once. Many ponds (similar, but not the same, I know) have gone over-night due to this, and is well documented. Anaerobic Bacteria can be beneficial, though this is usually in the Salt-water scene. Any dead spot/eddies can build up toxic amounts of by-products/have different parameters that can lead to shock changes, depending on situation and the susceptibility of a particular organism. A small cave is different than a 1/4 of the tank being cutoff... Free professional advice take it or leave it...
  18. Titrations should be to the first Change in colour but, check the instructions anyway...
  19. High frequency of intermediate volume, is better than low frequency/high volume water changes. I deter people from the 50%+ changes as most fish are sensitive to changes in parameters, and at 50%, the changes can be quite rapid (especially in S/Water, where there are simply more parameters to get right!) Welcome, You'll find us Tauranga lot pretty dam friendly, hope to eventually see this mudflat biotope you describe
  20. to get away from a skimmer takes alot of extra water volume, and usually a mature refugium that would be packed to the hilt with macro algae / algae scrubbers and then still have to increase water changes... For the size, convenience, and results that you see with a properly tuned/sized skimmer, there really is no contest...
  21. You should have various grades of sponge to help gradually filter out debris etc or you can block up your canister, causing "dead spots" where aneraobic bacteria can create sulphurous by-products that are lethal to fish. Other problem being that a blocked up canister won't flow very well at all. You should have some sort of movement (bubbles, powerhead, output from canister) aimed under that shelf to stop it from also developing a "dead spot" .
  22. I successfully grew plants in my 600mm deep tank with one 10 000 K T8 flouro. It's all relative, and there are a number of factors that come into successful planting... Use the search function, there are HUNDREDS of threads about plants and lighting and species specific requirements even...
  23. and 69.75624% of statistics are made up... :slfg:
