  1. Read that on its own and you'll see where the assumption came in... Agreed, probably shouldn't assume, but the number of times the old salt-dogs round here see exactly this in our lifetime is shocking... You've been here all of how long and you're already pointing fingers and passing comment? Really?? :-? Honestly, it reactions like this that make me just want to give up trying to help anyone ever again... Back to the case at hand... Water changes are all you need. The Nitrite reading you have is tiny, and nothing to be too alarmed about, just keep an eye on it, it most likely a mini-cycle probably caused by the addition of the Chromis. You should get a nitrate reading in a few days, not withstanding water changes reducing all your nitrogenous readings...
  2. well, if MPI (formerly MAF) found the auction before close, they would request membership details from T.Me, then go for a visit, probably remove the specimen, and, if they feel the need, "sanitise" any tanks or equipment that may have held or cross-contaminated with the holding tank for the specimen... And then there would be the legal repercussions and quite a few questions as to how they got hold of one (LIVE!) to begin with... May well be that they will be waiting to see where it going, as the buyer might also be in for a slap up-side the head...
  3. ordinarily when my FW gets clouded, I would put some carbon in my overflow for a few days... Problem being that it will probably strip the nutrients/ferts that you are adding to try get the plants going... :dunno: I'm not very experienced in high-tec planted tanks...
  4. least I hope so... Given the amount of environmentalists and bio-security awareness that is thrown around NZ, you really would expect people to know better... :dunno: maybe it just me...
  5. Just a quick word in here... Genetics are something that we only understand theoretically, results will always vary, not least due to individual specimens genotype.... Which brings me to the concept of genotype vs phenotype (google it...will help you understand bit more...) Basically, While a specimen looks a particular way, it will carry genes from both its parents, even the recessive genes that may not be visible in the phenotype, and can pass any of them to F2 generation... What I'm trying to get at is that it is not a quick process, and that all the "rules" that work for other breeders might not give you the same results... But keep at it, 'cos once you get to a F3/F4 of true breeders, you should have cracked it... Good Luck
  6. Nah, Just retro... :smln: I need to have a look what swimming around my local stream this time of year... so FREAKING cold though... :sml2:
  7. That is a very nice tank size...
  8. In before S.Storm... :rotf:
  9. Twice Daily feeding shouldn't be necessary for the fish you keep... once a day is usually ample... Tetra's are so inbred that they have their very own diseases, and sometimes can just pop their clogs for what can only be described as a loss of will to live... The brown gills could be a sign of nitrite poisoning, but if that was the case, I'd expect the Betta to drop too... a photo of the Betta in question will help determine if there is fin-rot or other disease that may be affecting it. I severely doubt that the tetra's would be causing the damage...
  10. One of the hardest things that anyone will ever go through... it is perfectly normal to have the selfish thoughts and not want him to go, but, sometimes it is the best thing... Look at it as one more final act of pure love for Bruce, the one where he finally is free from the confines of his mortal body that has not served him as well as it maybe should have, and frees him from his pain... Have people around you that you trust and can talk to, you're probably not going to want to talk about it immediately, but it is what everybody needs eventually in order to come to terms with it... Always have us here, P.M me if you like, Whatever we can do to help... Much love to Bruce... Who's cutting those freaking onions???
  11. is it me, or is TGA exploded in fish keeping recently? welcome
  12. Definately illegal... Summer holiday for somebody, I'm sure... Forget overseas travel...
  13. trick is, take the substrate, put in a bucket, then blast the hose in there (not so much as to over-flow the substrate) and mix it around, this will blast most of the loose fine stuff out, but may take some time to get a 100% clear. Now that stuff in your tank, just going to have to W/C the hell outa it till it clear again...
  14. you are ALWAYS going to have waterchanges... The FREQUENCY and actual amounts vary depending onthe situation... Imagine a waterchange as opening a window in a stuffy room...
  15. Last time i saw them must have been about a year ago... I FREAKING LOVE THESE FISH! If I could find some for a decent price I would have a 4ft tank full...
  16. Wouldn't bother. You CAN cut it out and replace the bead, BUT, if you are going that far, you might as well rip it apart and re-do the whole thing, least that way you know that it will last the next 5-10 years...
  17. hey man, I've been following this closely from the start, I have very little to offer as far as advice or knowledge on the subject, But! What I do have is a HUGE respect for your efforts... Bruce is a very lucky lad indeed to have someone care for him so much... I wish more people had a 1/8th of the care you have for Bruce for their pets... Keep it up, you have A LOT of people cheering for ya...
  18. That is just plain rude, regardless of ANYTHING you may have said, and terrible customer response... "Wonder World" often frequent these forums in the commercial sector... Anything to say for yourselves WW?? hmmmm??? Losing Customers by the second...
  19. Better not be a Tang or something equally retarded... Thought you stopped buying fish? :digH:
  20. Used for ages, never had a problem... Looking at the photo, I don't think that there is anything major going on, looks just like nutrient deficiency to me. Excel it and see how that goes...
