  1. Can we email the council, expressing our concern about the future of the park and asking if they were able to look at the application/ approval process ,(or whatever the correct wording may be), before the 15th? Also if we included cities emails were coming from, they would see it as more than just a 'local' thing? Is that a possibility? Would it stall the process even more? Who/what/where would we send the emails? Any thoughts???
  2. All the best for Wednesday Mark, will definately be thinking of you! No matter how fancy a lawyer or Judge, they are still an equal human-being, no better then anyone else! Especially you and the passion you have for the park, the animals and their future. We're all behind you in this one.
  3. Wow that is fantastic! :bounce: A man of many talents!
  4. Ahhh thanks for that Zabman, I wondered what that was! Don't think we have too many in the city...but I could be wrong!
  5. Just saw your post livingart, can't believe she kept coming back with no thought to give a donation, or keep her cat locked up at night or something! I've reared plenty of ducklings over the years bought in by cat at work or whatever, but struggle a bit with other birds and injuries...probably stems back to that time as a kid I carried a young black-bird inside that had been flapping around on the ground... and then saw the 'MILLIONS' of mites crawling off bird and all over my bare arm and hand...never been quite the same with birds after that :-?
  6. Thats a hard one with cats...they naturally roam and cause terrible problems with native birds etc...but also kill rats and mice etc. Bit of a balancing act with cats and certainly one that would be very difficult to resolve with so many differing opinions. I wouldn't want to see cats locked up in a 'cage' all day tho. The duck had definately been hit with something very hard on the back of the head, cat was being naturally curious and pawing at this 'thing' on the road. I just hoped it was an accidental 'car versus duck' and not 'blunt object weilded by person' versus duck... as was a very specific back of head injury with rest of head, body, legs, wings all seeming to be intact and working, just not able to be co-ordinated due to head injury and significant blood loss. I guess there will be plenty more before the spring is over. Interesting comment about egg heavy ducks, would never have thought of that. Also hard to see the 'mate' of a duck hanging around its mates body and then killed itself by a passing car days later too...
  7. mmm interesting... I've never known that to happen either. You're never too old to learn something new! I just have a female with male claws... shes definately a female and has longer claws then most of my males.... vet was most impressed with this 'oddity'
  8. Yes I think the cat probably thought it had got lucky having such a badly injured meal at its disposal....Mind you, If it wasn't for the cat showing up in my headlights I might not have seen the duck lying there as was on opposite side of road to me, so could have driven past.... I feel a whole lot better this morning knowing it didn't suffer any longer.
  9. Driving home from work about midnight and spotted a cat playing with a duck on road...duck was writhing about and turning around unable to fly...horrible...so picked it up and put in back of hatch-back. Got home and into light and could see blood over back of head and over its back, (and my hands), not a nice sight to see it suffering so badly. What to do? I couldn't kill it myself...so phoned after hours vet who said bring it down and it would be treated under wildlife or SPCA cost. Vet not far away, so popped it in a box and they took one look and said they'd euthanase it humanely as was in a bad way. I can deal with sick people....but the duck! It was awful to see it in such a bad way and struggling. I'm glad it didn't have to suffer for hours more.... I can cope with the idea of people hunting them and stuff, but awful to see it in this situation. I think I'll go and wash my hands again now....
  10. My dogs called Milo coz she's chocolate coloured with gold highlights. I'm not up to posting pics yet, in the WAY too hard to figure out basket......can get one on email if someone was able to post for me? She's a curly coat retriever crossed with a Lab...and very pretty...tho of course I'm not biased or anything...
  11. No earth-quake way down here.. .. I can't believe how many people are still up at this time of the night! :bounce:
  12. Thats OK Mark, you've got plenty of other things on your mind at the moment....
  13. Betadine is fine. Just watch as it STAINS like mad. Wear gloves or use a cotton bud to dab onto the area. Let fungal area dry a bit first and then apply...and not on your kitchen bench as you may end up with a permanent stain. You can use the betadine for most wounds or injuries but not around the face/eyes. Is the tank quite humid? as thats not good for allowing the turtles to dry out properly. Removing or reducing any lids will decrease the humidity. Whats the water temp?
  14. I was just going to suggest that too Remember that for every turtle poo they do about 4 to 5 x the amount of wee. Even tho the water may look clean, it really needs some changed every week. I tend to do about 1/3 to 1/2 tank every 7 to 10 days depending on how many turtles in tank. If he's still not too good, try uping the temp a little for awhile as well. I added a turtle to a tank of 4 others three days ago and suddenly found overnight the water had got quite smelly and needed a thorough change immediately. 24hrs earlier it had been fine and had water change only 5 days ago, so things can quickly alter in a turtle tank! (I just nearly killed the cat-fish in there tho as changed water quickly and she got too cold..)...all sorted now  Good luck and I hope he's fine now.
  15. You just stick a double adapter into it and plug in 2 lights...or a multi board for more. Simple Leave light switch on all the time. Timer will turn it off and on at the times you set. I use timers for all my turtle lights. Never have to think about them then. (9 lights at present).... timers were all under $10 each.
  16. I got the same response from Campbell live as well. Sounds almost like an automated response! Good idea to remind them they said they'd do an update Ballistic. Will send another email now.
  17. Maybe if we all emailed TV 3 and asked what was happening with the park it would generate enough interest for them to think they need to do a follow-up??? Coz if lots of people want to know, they'll think its good publicity for them too??.....
  18. Mmmm interesting to see this post after a year.... I've now got 6 snakenecks, 4 are really healthy and I had thought about putting them outside for next winter...but what with snow, floods and a constant high water table leaving 2 inches water permanently over back yard at the moment...maybe not. The other 2 I don't think will ever get healthy enough to live outside all yr round. One has terrible soft shell, and the 2 of them were never fed anything but ox heart for 3 yrs before I got them...from a certain site..I still can't get them to eat fish or anything live. I got some excellent calcium/vit powder in Oz (Customs OK as OZ made), which I roll the ox or chicken heart into and it sticks well and they are now eating that. Also eating boiled egg shells and cuttle bone...but not fish or even blood worms... one went 6 weeks eating nothing at all and that was mid summer! Re tagging turtles..they used to put hole in shells and tether tortoises but apparently that would be like drilling hole in your tooth...Ahhhh
  19. Hi Mark, yes I too was in tears watching the TV, and can only imagine how devastating this must be for you guys. What an inspiration you both are and I hope you can continue to fulfill your dream and that something, somehow can be worked out for you. Lots of thoughts and prayers for you both and all the wonderful animals.
  20. Definately thinking of you today Mark and Caroline and like already said, really hope the park remains open! I hope the lawyer has been able to sort something out for you.
  21. Plenty of snow now melting and turning into slush...COLD tho...and the dog wants a walk...mmm might send her on her own HAHA...
  22. Was really an amazing display. :bounce: I loved the drums and the count-down as well as the scroll unravelling...and the fireworks foot prints were pretty incredible. HUGE amount of organisation...Would be fantastic to be in the stadium with all that atmosphere. (Minus the smog)
  23. What about putting it in the private trade section as well? Maybe someone who doesn't usually look at the reptile site would like it? Just a thought...and apologies if you've already done that and I missed it
  24. mmm I just got in from work and its pretty wet out there! I had to remove the liner from a turtle pond last wk as is leaking and haven't been able to find something strong enough (and affordable) to replace it yet...but tonight the hole has filled up with water anyway! Pity it won't stay there tho. Oh well, 10 turtles spending another night in the bath!
