  1. I'd love to know of one in CHCH too! Be great to get some taddies again :bounce:
  2. Really sad news, and an obvious loss to the aquarium world. Please pass on my condolences to the family. Each and every life is so precious, and its so sad to know he had lost sight of how precious and valuable he was. May he be at peace.
  3. Agreed Mincie, and make sure its shelterd and in the sun! Have you got a REALLY good filter in the tank? A few food ideas for you..... Feed her variety. Chopped up ox/chicken or lamb heart (NO fat), any turtle food from pet shop you can get her to eat, insects, worms, snails, bits of courgette, banana, pumpkin, peas, frilly lettuce, water lilly pads and other water plants, boiled eggs and egg shells, purina 1 cat biscuits, dried fish (Purranas sold as cat food in supermarket), raw fish, hot house turtle food, blood worms, float a cuttle fish/bone (Sold as bird food at supermarket) in the water.... When introducing new food you can leave her about 4 days with no food and then feed her the new food when she's really hungry. Good luck!
  4. Hi and welcome to NZ. How long will you be here?
  5. Yes thats snow in the first picture. Cold!!! At that time turtles were all in my house or enclosure you can see at back of picture. I'd got too many new 'rescue' ones just before winter (12), so hadn't hibernated them. Maybe this yr I'll try hibernating and they can sleep beneath the snow
  6. Thanks Mincie, yes that plastic mesh has been used for all sorts over the years. I had a nice gentle sloped area on other side of pond...and turtles decided they prefered the narrow area by the fence  .....so out came the mesh again
  7. Wonderful! Congrats on the new aditions to the family
  8. Iszac are there 4 lizards in the 3rd pic? Very nic pics people.
  9. In a couple of ponds at the moment...lovely day today...have popped the others out in the ponds today as well....over winter I had 28 turtles in the house...don't ask about the power bills.... Also the info I got about chickens was from Mark Feldman from the herp. society.
  10. In the wild they could eat fish, insects, dead things in the water, their own eggs, babies....etc.
  11. I know that NZ chicken eggs (and shells), carry salmonella and campylobacter so they need to be cooked before feeding to turtles. Sometimes I feed whole boiled eggs, usually just the boiled shells. I wouldn't risk feeding raw chicken meat to my turtles, tho would be great to be able to throw in a chicken carcass and let them go for it... Perhaps other countries don't have chickens that carry those 2 diseases. But thats just my opinion.
  12. Hi K1tt3n and welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy it You have an unusual 'name'. (I hope I spelt it right.)
