  1. The Furan comes in little capsual things apparently, and the entire packet is expensive because it contains more than 1. See if any local FNZAS members have a packet of Furan 2 and could sell you a couple of capsuals, which are about $3 each or something.
  2. That is not a phone number on the band, that is the bird's identification number. If you can try and get the details from the band, I will track down its owner for you.
  3. Sorry to say, but that is most likely columnaris. It looks exactly like what I had in my tank a few months back. It wiped out just about everything in about 3-5 days. Try Furan 2. I was too late with treating my fish, so I didn't bother. But hopefully you'll still have time for yours. I've heard Furan 2 is very good for treating columnaris.

    Bye bye L046...

That makes me furious     I feel very sorry for both the plants/animals, and the indigenous people. Why are they doing this if people are actually living there?

Wow your tank is incredible! I love the hairgrass - it is so healthy and dense.
  6. Wow that is looking great Sophia! I love the killies. They're so cute! Would you be able to send me a bit of that funny Hottonia-type plant please?
  7. Wow those aldercones certainly look good. I must get some!
  8. Mmmmm cake! Did you save some for me?
  9. But it looks so Amazony, if that's even a word  Not all parts of the Amazon River are dirty and muddy; there are areas that are tannin-stained but the water is also very clear. The light in your tank doen't look execptionally bright, but yes it could be a little dimmer, but I think it looks cool how it is. Most of the plants in your tank are ones that come from the Amazon; your fish are Amazonian, you have some lovely sand for the substrate, and the dead leaves in the tank are giving the water tannins. So I still think it is a biotope
  10. I just can't stop drooling over how cool your tank is . Definately a true Amazon biotope . What are those round leaves on the bottom? They don't exactly look like oak leaves, and it's cool to know there are other leaves in NZ, other than oak leaves, that are aquarium-safe. Joe
  11. Wow looking cool. It definately has a lot of potential :bounce: . Your tank is nowhere near Dutch, it's just a big jungle! But a very, very cool jungle . I actually prefer your tank to a professional Dutch layout, because it looks so natural and I think its cool how there are all those catfish hidden away in there. It has inspired me heaps, and I'm now not convinced that an ADA-style tank is the best path for me, so I'm considering doing something like yours for my next large setup.
  12. Do you have the airline from the CO2 bottle running straight into the tank? If so, it is most likely residue from the bottle. I have found it somehow manages to get into the tank periodicly so I always have a second, smaller bottle with water in it that acts as a bubble counter and to collect any residue.
  13. The stuff in the yellow bags is fine. I use it for growing plants - they like acidic soil.
  14. Oh yeah good point. Why didn't I think of that   . I think I must have mistaken my brain for toxic sludge...
  15. Wow this is wayyyyyy better than the old scape Looks very much like an Amazon Biotope, especially with the A. agassizii for inhabitants.
  16. Cool! I'll have to give it a go when I get some more Plecos. I only have 2 Golden Bristlenose Ancistrus, so I really don't want to waste a whole courgette, and I can't really be stuffed cutting it to make it smaller and then have the rest of it sitting in the fridge for who knows how long... Wow Morcs, awesome eartheater . Is he/she yours? What species it it?

    Reefs Reef Tank

Wow you have the best tank I have ever seen! How much does it cost a month to run? If I had to pick a favourite fish from your tank, it would have to be those gorgeous little Apogon leptacanthus. They are so cute! How many do you have?
  18. Wow, that looks fantastic! The whiptail is so cool! Your swordplant is beautiful! I can't wait until mine get to that stage. You'll be pleased to know that mine have recovered from whatever it was that was wrong with them, and have grown some lovely new big leaves. I think it might have been the transition to a new tank and that shocked them, because I don't have bright T5 lighting like you do. I just have a couple of T8's. All the original leaves rotted, but the new leaves look exactly the same as the original leaves did when I recieved the plants.

  20. For fish, 50 Hemigrammopetersius caudalis :bounce: And for plants... Although it isn't a plant that originates from the Congo area, I think various varieties of Java fern will look nice. And you must include Congo Fern (Bolbitis heudelotii) and as many species and varieties of Anubias as possible. Tiger Lotus comes from Africa and that will look stunning in your tank.
  21. Awesome! Definately much better and cheaper than the one I was looking at originally. In the future, I may set up a 300-400L tank after I have finished this project. I was thinking of using 5 or 6 54watt T5 PowerGlo tubes, but I could get 3 150watt halides instead, and it will be far easier as I won't need to buy the T5 fittings or have a hood made for the tank! Plus I will get the rippling effect under the water and I'll get more light too! Just wondered, do I need some sort of fan/cooling device if I'm using metal halide lighting? Where do you get them from? Could you please post a link to the website of the company that makes them?
