  1. betadine is good as it stays on longer in the water, forgot to mention that one
  2. sanitarium rep dropped off 12 large packets of weetbix Psssst: Jo1 i am really helping the animals, don't tell anyone though story of the day, lady came in yesterday to pledge 1,000 towards keeping the penguin rehabilitation pool going, 5 mins after arriving today to give us the money a penguin came in for a few days R&R after being hassled by dogs on the mount beach she was blown away by the coincidence/synchronicity
  3. mincie has it right brineshrimp or microworms to start and as they grow bigger onto daphnia seperate mine off after hatching to smaller lots in bathtub full of green water outside, no attention am still able to get young axys out of it
  4. not from ours, but apparently varanophile is breeding some
  5. yes they are available colour does change with mood etc some are redder than others not colour food related in my experience
  6. sorry should have mentioned that silvia15:oops: but i don't count my chickens before they are hatched and on the perch silvia15 has done some good work behind the scenes as well there are many people who have been touched by this and it truly has been a humbling experience
  7. has renewed our faith in the human race too an update, was asked how things were going so thought i would post the reply as an up date we are holding up well, the public support and well wishers have been fantastic, the fish forum being the catalyst for it all we are currently setting up a charitable trust as there have been quite a few donations, and we need to ensure it is seen to be above board. the trust will be set up to look after the animals welfare and progress the park onto a sounder financial footing we are also pursuing other finance options to ensure the future of the park is more solid the battle is not over though, so it is head down, bottom up and get through this, we are still fighting to make the interim injunction on the mortgagee sale into an injunction to allow finances to be sorted we are currently trying to reduce numbers of animals in our care to cut down expenses with some offers of homes being taken up a lady came in today to pledge $1,000 towards the upkeep of the saltwater pool and the penguin rescue we do so all is progressing well, but not fast enough it is hard living with an axe over your head, but then we built this place from nothing with nothing, the bigger the prize the tougher the battle thanks to all for the continued support cheers mark
  8. Usually when turtles bask and dry off it will help kill the bacteria or fungus. they can be left out of the water for extended periods. you can add acriflaven or malachite green or both to the water i use an iodine spray and then leave the turtle out of water for the day then repeat every second day for a while just my opinion though others may have other methods
  9. if you are doing a clean up on the turtle you can go stronger i use sea water on mine, or just mix till it tastes fairly salty i don't leave in the water for too long, maybe 10 mins max deep enough to allow turtle to get head above water as mumzy said for general water in tank reeves seem to be more susceptible to water quality
  10. indeed he has organized a sausage sizzle at the animates next fun day with proceeds going towards the effort to save the park big thanks to Jim and to Animates local and head office to allow this to happen
  11. give him a saltbath as well or clean shell to remove as much bad smell as possible probably find the ammonia has burnt skin and allowed secondary infection, a bit of iodine in the salt bath won't hurt either
