that will all depend on what genetics the originals were carrying
there may be a few sports pop up though
alleles are a funny thing in the way they combine
highly coloured morphs in only a few generations may be an indicator of smuggled animals
then it may be a result of line breeding
with todays technology and the limited paternal line it will be relatively easy to tell
yes have had java fern do the same in the newts tank,
growing on the moss
had lids on tank as well to keep humidity up
are you planting in the corners as well?
nice, xmas or java moss will grow nicely on the exposed piece
i start it off at waterline with about 12mm up the branch and same below waterline
this allows water to "wick" up to the exposed bit and keep it moist
