your frog got the hump with you? did you call it quasimodo or does its face not ring a bell? -
highly coloured morphs in only a few generations may be an indicator of smuggled animals then it may be a result of line breeding with todays technology and the limited paternal line it will be relatively easy to tell

yes have had java fern do the same in the newts tank, growing on the moss had lids on tank as well to keep humidity up are you planting in the corners as well?

you will be surprised by how big a food they can eat slaters, small mealworms, earthworms, spiders etc usually go down alright -
nice, xmas or java moss will grow nicely on the exposed piece i start it off at waterline with about 12mm up the branch and same below waterline this allows water to "wick" up to the exposed bit and keep it moist

having some of the driftwood coming up out of the water may add another dimension to the scape

if tank is very tall the bottom middle is where the most pressure is drop water level to reduce pressure on that spot
